Autobiografia is one of the best songs ever created. It's very personal and emotional song. It's exactly as title say - an autobiography of the author. I recommend listening to the full version with lyrics translated to English. Very likely a "tekstowo" website would have it translated (it's Polish lyrics site, that also translates from other languages to Polish or often from Polish to English). I also recommend some songs like Kombi's or Lady Pank's music. They are also very... moralising? I don't know how to call it, but it's not just "singing for the singing", the lyrics are actually important and have deeper meanings. And other great band is Bajm. I cannot not recommend it, haha. Maybe not so deep in the meaning, but still the lyrics has some. It's not just mindless singing. But it's not as deep as the other mentioned. Varius Manx is also another band that has good songs, but I wouldn't say the lyrics is meaningful at all, but it's still great lyrics. And for specific song, I would recommend Edyta Bartosiewicz - Jenny. It's a song about having an alter ego deep inside you. People often mistake it for schizophrenic song, but the meaning is totally different. It's about being your true self, someone that is inside you and people call you crazy for being yourself. It's especially very important song to me, because I was like that. I was different than the others and I was hated for that, I had no friends and nobody liked me. I was the "crazy freak" with his world inside his head. I still am. And I am proud of it. Oh, and also I see "Kolorowy wiatr" was featured here. It's one of these Polish localized songs from Disney movies that surpassed the original greatly. Edyta Górniak did an amazing job singing as Pocahontas. Ironically to me this song is very nostalgic. Ironically, because I never watched Pocahontas as a kid, I hated it, because it was about "boring humans". I watched it in past decade for the first time and this is easily one of the best Disney movie I've seen. For some reason this song is nostalgic to me. Maybe exactly because it's something I didn't have? Because I heard the song on TV when I was kid, but I never cared about movie itself. And when I heard it again, it was longing for something I haven't seen back then. IMO, generally, '90s have the best songs in quantity, but not necessarily in quality. At least in Poland. These songs were just more catchy, melodic and stuff like that. But many songs before were better in quality. To me 2010's and later has too much disco polo songs. Meaningless and just with a lot of noise.

Super, że porównujesz z Wielką Brytanią, bo przy okazji się dowiedziałam, że kojarze o dziwo wszystkie zespoły, które wymieniłeś w odniesieniu do swojego kraju (generalnie lubię angielską muzykę, chociażby brit pop). U nas w Polsce wiele kanałów muzycznych puszcza głównie zagraniczną muzykę (a polska muzyka to jakiś tam procent kontentu). Nie wiem czy aby też nie śledzimy od lat właśnie angielskich list przebojów jako jednego z wyznaczników tego co jest aktualnie w Europie słuchane muzycznie. Z listy polskiej muzyki w tym video też kojarzę właściwie wszystkie numery, mimo że nie słucham wszystkiego z tego na co dzień. Ale są to tak charakterystyczne dla mnie numery i na tyle obecne, że się zetknęłam z niemal każdym (chociażby na YT właśnie, gdzie słucham trochę muzyki i zaglądam na różne kanały, więc one się przewijają). W Polsce wydaje mi się dawniej się słuchało najwięcej rocka, a obecnie chyba króluje hip-hop jeśli chodzi o ilość słuchaczy. Na YT jest chyba jednak trochę inna statystyka, która tego nie oddaje. Natomiast napewno bardziej uwidacznia się w Polsce w obecnych czasach muzyka electro i wciąż słucha się disco polo. I oczywiście pop ma swoje stałe miejsce. Sanah jest bardzo ciekawa - ona łączy pop z niszowymi rzeczami, taką trochę polską duszę z tym co bardziej uniwersalne. Jest utalentowana. I ma pomysł na siebie. Nie dziwię się, że zrobiła karierę. I sama też jej kibicuje. Pamiętam jak się pojawiła na polskiej scenie muzycznej - to był przełom. Jej pierwszy utwór słuchałam na Eska TV i nie kojarzyłam, że jest Polką, bo to była piosenka po angielsku 'Invisible dress' w zremixowanej wersji. 😂

You are a bit wrong in your assessment of Polish music in the 70s. Rock was not welcome on the official market at that time, but that does not mean it did not exist. For example Niemen (Enigmatic, Aerolit, Ode to Venus albums), SBB and many others. In the 80s such music started to appear more often to distract the youth from politics (the communists were very wrong)

8:25 disco polo is nothing more than a simple songs, with simple text, things that are rather catchy and were very popular especialy on: - weddings (because these are rythmic, simple songs, they are good for dancing) - disco parties (same reasons as above) when it comes to listening music -> people will prefer serious (like rock song) or beatiful songs, when it comes to parting or for music to accompany simple phisical labor -> disco polo wins (it's pretty popular between all those construction workers, as well as people who grew up in country side). other types of music that is popular on wedding: ballads, italian disco music (especialy older songs) and more modern pop songs (you can hear songs from 70's, 80's, 90's as well as 2010+ or last year song of summer)
Maanam POP? Punk Rock more likely. Rock was POP of 70's. Disco Polo was inspired by the Italy Disco actually. In the 1980-90's a lot of people were able to go for vacation to Italy, and they brought back a lot of things and ideas
It's my personal opinion but polish music peaked around 80s/90s and slowly started it's decline in mid 2000s with small exceptions like Kortez and such.

As a Pole I have never heard 90% of these songs from say 2005 on. Plus the amount of the cheap Slavic disco on this list proves it’s definitely not the most popular songs from the respective years. It’s the most viewed ones on ytb if anything. Which in many cases are cringe af;) and defo don’t reflect what ppl listen to over there. Quite similarly with eurovision if you’re bringing it up. We have never but a cpl of times sent a song that would give Europe an idea of what’s listened to in PL. Just like the UK I reckon. And then ppl all over Europe believe it’s the Slavic disco or all the crap from recent years that we listen to. No we don’t;)

Born and raised in Poland, turned 15 in the year 2000, and honestly I didn't know most of the songs from the 90's on. It's not what was played in the radio or in tv, or what people listened to at home. Honestly, this list makes us look kind of stereotypical, with our funny disco polo songs, sticking to out of date music and liking medicore (at best) stuff. It wasn't like that, and it's not like that.

I think Brits are people who know the best how to make music. Without you, this world would be sad and gray. Im glad that my father at '70 '80 be able to do some magic and somehow get Pink Floyd records. Wasn't easy behind iron courtain. Those vinyls shaped my music taste years after.
It is also a fun fact that in Poland since '60s rock was called Bigbit or big-beat for political reasons. (Not to be confused with big beat, British electronic music genge of the '90s. I now, confusingly close names). Haven't found a clear info until when, but I guess at least since the fall of communism the term isn't really used anymore. As in communists saw anything coming from the west as bad, but kowing they couldn't really stop rock being created in Poland they decided to side-step the problem calling it by a different name and pretending it was not the same thing : ) Other music genres that were believed by the communists to be a tool of "american imperialism" were jazz and twist. As a result there was a big underground jazz scene in Poland, especially prominient in pomerania. Jazz became more accepted by the governemnt around 1954, sprouting some jazz festivals. To this day Sopot organizes an annual Sopot jazz festival : )
One artist who poped up from talents shows and became pretty popular in last years, but isn't on the list: Daria Zawiałow... her style, especialy in first few songs is heavily influenced by polish rock music from 80s. Strongly recommending her songs ;)

As a 90's kid this was a very nostalgic video for me. But I'm terrified how level of these songs dropped from 2010. Of course these are the only ones of every year, most popular, but it tells a lot, how music taste changed. Except of amazing Sanah I think songs from 2010-2023 were awful. The last three I don't even know they exist and I regret I met them here :) I'm also surprised that in 2000's there weren't any songs of Ich Troje and Doda, these were great phenomens in Poland.

Although it wasn't that long ago, back then we were still being robbed and cheated by neighboring countries. Polish singers created their works in backyards and crumbling apartment blocks. Friendships Even then did not exist very much as they do today. So don't expect vocalists from those years to look like a picture.

I have seen other people reactions to this video clip, but no one had such terrible sound like here. To make sure it’s not fault of my device I watched on two different devices with the same horrible audio sound. Just saying so you will know, and hopefully fix it so it will never happen again. Music is showing a true about variety of Polish music, but its not relevant to what was popular and when. “Autobiografia” was the mist popular in late 90 at least in my school. Disco Polo is well known ages before 2000, along with pop and rock music in Poland. No one really liked it, but everyone will dance to it in years 1990-2010. Lady pank, perfect, and other rock music 3 generations at least grew up listening to it.

Super, że porównujesz z Wielką Brytanią, bo przy okazji się dowiedziałam, że kojarze o dziwo wszystkie zespoły, które wymieniłeś w odniesieniu do swojego kraju (generalnie lubię angielską muzykę, chociażby brit pop). U nas w Polsce wiele kanałów muzycznych puszcza głównie zagraniczną muzykę (a polska muzyka to jakiś tam procent kontentu). Nie wiem czy aby też nie śledzimy od lat właśnie angielskich list przebojów jako jednego z wyznaczników tego co jest aktualnie w Europie słuchane muzycznie. Z listy polskiej muzyki w tym video też kojarzę właściwie wszystkie numery, mimo że nie słucham wszystkiego z tego na co dzień. Ale są to tak charakterystyczne dla mnie numery i na tyle obecne, że się zetknęłam z niemal każdym (chociażby na YT właśnie, gdzie słucham trochę muzyki i zaglądam na różne kanały, więc one się przewijają). W Polsce wydaje mi się dawniej się słuchało najwięcej rocka, a obecnie chyba króluje hip-hop jeśli chodzi o ilość słuchaczy. Na YT jest chyba jednak trochę inna statystyka, która tego nie oddaje. Natomiast napewno bardziej uwidacznia się w Polsce w obecnych czasach muzyka electro i wciąż słucha się disco polo. I oczywiście pop ma swoje stałe miejsce.
Sanah jest bardzo ciekawa - ona łączy pop z niszowymi rzeczami, taką trochę polską duszę z tym co bardziej uniwersalne. Jest utalentowana. I ma pomysł na siebie. Nie dziwię się, że zrobiła karierę. I sama też jej kibicuje. Pamiętam jak się pojawiła na polskiej scenie muzycznej - to był przełom. Jej pierwszy utwór słuchałam na Eska TV i nie kojarzyłam, że jest Polką, bo to była piosenka po angielsku 'Invisible dress' w zremixowanej wersji. 😂
That ranking not make sense at all . I was teenager in 80s and trust me Rock and Hard Rock was a king . Mannam , Perfect , Republika , Oddzial Zamkniety , TSA , Lady Pank , Banda i Wanda , Lombard try to listen those guys !!!

I suggest Maryla Rodowicz 'Łatwopalni'. This set of songs is good test for being Polish. As a Pole I can sing all of them since '80 🎉 and as I Pole I would add many more.

The guy who doesn't look like a signer is actually a neurosurgeon. His name is Kuba Sienkiewicz, the band is Elektryczne Gitary, and it was a side gig, of sorts, that became popular. But he is a medical doctor, and he just happens to sing.

You are a bit wrong in your assessment of Polish music in the 70s. Rock was not welcome on the official market at that time, but that does not mean it did not exist. For example Niemen (Enigmatic, Aerolit, Ode to Venus albums), SBB and many others. In the 80s such music started to appear more often to distract the youth from politics (the communists were very wrong)

8:25 disco polo is nothing more than a simple songs, with simple text, things that are rather catchy and were very popular especialy on:
- weddings (because these are rythmic, simple songs, they are good for dancing)
- disco parties (same reasons as above)
when it comes to listening music -> people will prefer serious (like rock song) or beatiful songs, when it comes to parting or for music to accompany simple phisical labor -> disco polo wins (it's pretty popular between all those construction workers, as well as people who grew up in country side).
other types of music that is popular on wedding: ballads, italian disco music (especialy older songs) and more modern pop songs (you can hear songs from 70's, 80's, 90's as well as 2010+ or last year song of summer)

Disco Polo was inspired by the Italy Disco actually. In the 1980-90's a lot of people were able to go for vacation to Italy, and they brought back a lot of things and ideas

It's my personal opinion but polish music peaked around 80s/90s and slowly started it's decline in mid 2000s with small exceptions like Kortez and such.

As a Pole I have never heard 90% of these songs from say 2005 on. Plus the amount of the cheap Slavic disco on this list proves it’s definitely not the most popular songs from the respective years. It’s the most viewed ones on ytb if anything. Which in many cases are cringe af;) and defo don’t reflect what ppl listen to over there.
Quite similarly with eurovision if you’re bringing it up. We have never but a cpl of times sent a song that would give Europe an idea of what’s listened to in PL. Just like the UK I reckon.
And then ppl all over Europe believe it’s the Slavic disco or all the crap from recent years that we listen to. No we don’t;)

You say that the singer from Elektryczne Gitary (literally means "electric guitars") doesn't look like a typical singer... maybe because in fact he is educated as a surgeon :D

Born and raised in Poland, turned 15 in the year 2000, and honestly I didn't know most of the songs from the 90's on. It's not what was played in the radio or in tv, or what people listened to at home. Honestly, this list makes us look kind of stereotypical, with our funny disco polo songs, sticking to out of date music and liking medicore (at best) stuff. It wasn't like that, and it's not like that.
So Rob... You like rock music? I reccomend You to listen the polish opening to anime Shaman King. The vocalist Wojciech Bujoczek has a really cool vocals there.
Hey, I have an idea for reaction: Since you already know how to read Polish, it might be interesting to see your reaction to Cyber Marian's "Ukryty Polski" ("Hidden Polish") - it's a series of videos here on RUclips in which the lyrics of famous songs in English and other languages are reinterpreted / deliberately "misheard" as Polish language :) They're quite funny ;) Although you would probably need some subtitles in English in order to fully understand what the "hidden Polish" says and fully understand the humour :J

Hi #Rob If you like music look for 'Spytaj Milicjanta' by 'Dezerter'. This song was anti-Soviet song approved by the Soviets. Extremely sarcastic but they didn't catch it. I don't want to give any references, people can make their own mind. May be interesting though.
I think Brits are people who know the best how to make music. Without you, this world would be sad and gray. Im glad that my father at '70 '80 be able to do some magic and somehow get Pink Floyd records. Wasn't easy behind iron courtain. Those vinyls shaped my music taste years after.

It is also a fun fact that in Poland since '60s rock was called Bigbit or big-beat for political reasons. (Not to be confused with big beat, British electronic music genge of the '90s. I now, confusingly close names). Haven't found a clear info until when, but I guess at least since the fall of communism the term isn't really used anymore.
As in communists saw anything coming from the west as bad, but kowing they couldn't really stop rock being created in Poland they decided to side-step the problem calling it by a different name and pretending it was not the same thing : )
Other music genres that were believed by the communists to be a tool of "american imperialism" were jazz and twist. As a result there was a big underground jazz scene in Poland, especially prominient in pomerania. Jazz became more accepted by the governemnt around 1954, sprouting some jazz festivals. To this day Sopot organizes an annual Sopot jazz festival : )

One artist who poped up from talents shows and became pretty popular in last years, but isn't on the list: Daria Zawiałow... her style, especialy in first few songs is heavily influenced by polish rock music from 80s. Strongly recommending her songs ;)

As a 90's kid this was a very nostalgic video for me. But I'm terrified how level of these songs dropped from 2010. Of course these are the only ones of every year, most popular, but it tells a lot, how music taste changed. Except of amazing Sanah I think songs from 2010-2023 were awful. The last three I don't even know they exist and I regret I met them here :) I'm also surprised that in 2000's there weren't any songs of Ich Troje and Doda, these were great phenomens in Poland.

Maybe because even singers in Poland didn't earn much? Even the most popular ones barely made ends meet. Although it wasn't that long ago, back then we were still being robbed and cheated by neighboring countries. Polish singers created their works in backyards and crumbling apartment blocks. Friendships Even then did not exist very much as they do today.
So don't expect vocalists from those years to look like a picture.
The most important song for the protests were sung by - Kaczmarski. You did not react to that from what I can see, and its a big one. English subtitles.

Disco Polo is well known ages before 2000, along with pop and rock music in Poland. No one really liked it, but everyone will dance to it in years 1990-2010.
Lady pank, perfect, and other rock music 3 generations at least grew up listening to it.
