Two things I like about this game: the art style is almost Pixar -like, and the accessibility options are very well designed. Even without them, the game is friendly enough to those either new to the souls genre or like me, they suck at these games lol. But it’s also challenging enough that you will die a lot. Also please don’t litter in our oceans
Thanks for the video. I'm really curious to see where this title goes. There have been some cartoony soulslike, but none of them took the idea in a new direction aside from presentation. Onward to 400k. All glory to the algorithm.
The accessibility of this game is awesome, been able to get into it without bouncing out like most souls like I try, just the options to keep my currency when I lose alongside just being able to spawn next to bosses every attempt has really changed a lot for me and made me see more that I love in the genre then before!!
I never cared for Souls-likes, but I like that they included difficulty options. Why not increase potential audience? It's not like they even have to balance easy, like in this game. Seems smart on crab devs part
Because FromSoft prides itself on making difficult but fair games and since they basically created the genre and everybody tried to copy them, that became the genre philosophy. And, at least from the outside looking in, since this is not quite my preferred genre of games, a lot of people take getting through those games as a badge of honor. Now, before we agree that it is kinda stupid, there's some oddly "wholesome" (?) effects of that in that people dissect the game on release in a very communal fashion. Discoveries are celebrated and then they get into speedrunning and then the strategies there get celebrated. There simply would be no need to do those things if the game was "easy". When it comes to difficulty options there is a lot of talk about the most "fair" solution. Should there be an easy option ? Should the easy option have the ability to give all achievements ? And then eventually it becomes "where does this end" and how does it compromise gamedesign ? While i disagree with a lot of sentiments in some of those discussions (on both sides of the argument), i think there is a place for "easy soulslikes" as a gateway to get more people into those games and this game clearly departs from the souls formula in a meaningful and deliberate way, that makes it more inviting to newcomers, so i think even the oneshot easy mode help thing is perfectly fine. Very glad this game exists.
@@FSVR54 Sorry, i'll just have to disagree there. Yes, not the way you put it, but in the grand scheme of things "playing video games" is not that demanding. So while i do admire the stuff some people can do in video games (massive fighting games fan, while i absolutely suck), feeling proud about playing games all day, to a lot of people isn't really meaningful, especially if you're not "just having fun", but actually have to struggle through it. Again, i respect it, but i can totally see how some people never could, and the classic soulslikes are just not for them and they'd be far better served with this game than if they jumped straight into Elden Ring like many people previously did and were disappointed.
Love the game, love the addition of accessibility options, even if I'm not using them right now, more people deserve to play games like these. The story is great, the world is pretty interesting and I love the shell system.
You really sold me on that game. When you showed it during your Steam Next Fest highlights last October, I assumed it would be a weird, humorous game with 'meh' mechanics, but now I have to give it a try 😄
We really need a gaming culture where "difficulty" settings are viewed the same way as resolution, framerate, control layout, UI scaling, a/v output, etc. They should just be in all games, and the person who is trying to enjoy the game can just do what they want with the thing they paid for.
Looking forward to the full review! A list video that I'd be interested in, is a list of the games with the best action combat gameplay. Not necessarily the best games overall, but the games where the combat is really engaging, where one can feel "Yeah! I'm kicking b*tt!".
It does need a couple of patches, the button presses don’t register, there’s input delays and stutters during boss fights. Especially, they need to fix the weird camera angles around corners and behind objects. Lastly, they need to fix some hit boxes as well. A great game in my opinion but needs a little bit of work. Playing it on steam deck OLED with a 45 FPS lock.
Looks like devs don't even care that much about pc gaming nowadays, most games releases nowadays with No goddamn keybinding option or keybinding issues or showing controller layout only !!!
How was there ever a debate that required even choosing a side? Did you pay money for said game? Me too… you play yours how you want. You can even feel superior if it helps your self esteem 🤷🏾♂️
I have a pretty weak argument for wanting games with no difficulty selections. Personally I like a challenge but I also don't have self control lol. So I prefer when I have a fixed difficulty because that will overall give me a better experience. If I play a game and there is an option to lower the difficulty might cave after failing several times and ill lower the difficulty. Then it kind of ruins the game for me. The game loses a sense of tension when I know I can always win. Not really a big deal. Usually I try to pick a difficulty and stick to it.
@@TheJols I feel this so much. I have zero self control. I also have zero attention span (looking into it) I’m fine if the option isn’t there, but I don’t care if it is either. What someone does in their own single player game is completely up to them… That’s why the Game Genie was such a big deal in its day
At first, I heard "souls-like" and my response was a big fat NO. I hate action combat in general, and I can't even begin to express how much I despise souls-like action combat. The existence of these games doesn't bother me; different gamers have different taste, after all, and many people enjoy the challenge, so it is good that there are games for people who like to struggle with difficult action combat. These games simply aren't for me. I'll take turn-based over souls-like any day, and I really love peaceful, non-combat games. The concept behind this game looks fun, and that oversized gun looks like it provides the option to completely short-circuit the combat and just roam around the world without having to fight in any serious way, so it might work for me. It all seems to make sense - a silly, humorous souls-like game that provides an over-the-top way to bypass the souls-like mechanics. Could this be some sort of commentary on the nature of souls-like games and the sometimes toxic conversations about difficulty? I might just have to find out for myself. Furthermore, I like crabs.
Crazy thing about owning a PC is you can use controllers with it and still be a PC gamer. Some games just play better with a controller, the more you know!
Crazy thing about being a person with your own lived experience is that sometimes simply using a controller isn't comparable to about 20 years of muscle memory, the more you know!
This type of games plays much better with a controller. My only gripe with your channel is your fixation with mouse and keyboard. Even if this is a PC channel, controllers are natively supported on PC.
I should be able to use the default control system for a platform a game releases on without an issue. When they start releasing games on console and telling people to use KBM there let me know.
Nothing in the world has ever been improved, by catering to the lowest common denominator - and this even holds true for something as insignificant, as the difficulty in a video game. Once upon a time, even the act of cheating came with a little bit of work, maybe you even had to use an entirely separate program like CheatEngine, in order to get the results you wished for. Handing everyone - no matter how incompetent - everything on a silver platter, will not inspire any desire to improve oneself..........
I think it's more than an understatement to suggest people do feel better overcoming challenges than they do not being challenged. I understand the appeal of a power fantasy, but the appeal of making a power fantasy out of a game that is trying to beat you is far more engaging.
The main appeal of the Souls-like genre for me, and most others, is the joy of overcoming hardship. There are many other games with great visuals and captivating story-telling, but what makes the likes of Elden Ring and Sekiro stand a mile apart from them is that freaking joy.
I agree in the sense that games shouldn't be "dumbed down" just so people can progress. The challenge is part of the game and if it is too difficult for you, look for mods/cheats etc. or just play something else. Some people want the challenge and some of them want the pride in feeling accomplished without sharing it. It's not necessarily how i approach gaming, but who cares. I don't mind the "git gud" attitude. HOWEVER, something has to be said about "gateway" games and capturing an audience that is usually not inclined to try soulslikes, because of the reputation they have, just so they can dip a toe into the genre, is A-OK in my book. And imo this title does just that. It's an approachable self-aware theme with plenty options for newcomers to the genre. If you're gaming for the "i've bit on granite for 60h, but got through eventually" plaque, then yeah, this game is probably not for you.
@@spacemonkeyentertainment6413 Oh yeah, I'm obviously not talking about any dedicated gateway experiences. They have their place and there are honestly not enough of them anymore - within games and movies alike.
