I feel like my memory retention is much higher when I write in an analog journal. Also, I love using cute and cool stationery, which gets me more enthused to write and thus, gets me to write more often. Technology can march on as fast and as far as it wants, I'll always reach for my Campus notebook and dusty pink gel pen when I want to mark something down.

I started a journal (of sorts) back in September last year, because of this channel and the enthusiasm it inspired me with. I'm still journalling today; I don't manage to do it every single day, but most of the time I do - when I don't, I don't give myself the hard time I used to that might have spelled the end of such a habit (because of the all-or-nothing mindset I had).
It's been an immensely rewarding experience, and has helped me with so many things, resolving issues both internal and external, making problems soluble, and generally contributing to a previously-elusive sense of stability and constance that in turn has contributed to a feeling of mental well-being these days.
    Great work.

It is interesting that you use a pocket notebook as a journal. I have used a traditional journal on and off for years. Maybe in part as such a big page is intimidating and I feel that I must write everything down. This looks like it would be worth trying.

4:27 "It's slow" Absolutely. For me, that is a clear feature, not a bug. There's no doubt it can be helluva frustrating...to begin with. But whatever happens in your brain as you learn to adjust is, I think, part of why the slowness is a good thing. That's been my experience anyway.

I totally agree about it feeling like a ritual. Digital kind of felt artificial in comparison to analog when I've tried it. The fact you can access it everywhere... I mean it wouldn't remain as sacred as using paper. I have one issue about it. I'm a minimalist. I hate having multiple journals. What's your advice for storage and what is your system? Thanks for sharing this relaxing and insightful piece, @Wood & Graphite.

  • @immanuel_shadowhammonds2813

I always analog write and draw with Wooden Pencils. Doing this makes My hands really sturdy and steady with awesome Penmanship. I either don't want to or scared to do digital work. Well with the progression of technology, the use of digital work will cause the Person(s) to loose their Penmanship and the feel of doing things analog, especially when the grid go down or they run out of battery. What do You do then? It's always good to keep an old fashioned Pen or Pencil, and Paper in hand. If You let technology do everything for You, then comes the time to do things analog again, will You loose Your talent of steady hands, proper shading, perfect penmanship with writing? Things to think about You know...

    Most importantly, its physically secure.
Your ideas, vulnerability, intellectual property, personal records and conceptual figures are in your journal and no place else.
The NSA, competition and any other organization or bad actor who wants your data, ideas or thoughts will have to break into your house to get their hands on this.
Granted, if you have really important stuff, dont take your journal into immigration or security checkpoints.
There exists an entire industry involved in lifting your data from devices and selling it to the highest bidder or your nosy and eavesdropping government could vacuum up your thoughts on the next update.
Also if you need to destroy all your records in a moment's notice, and be certain that no other copies exist, all you need is a metal trashcan, lighter fluid and a well ventilated area.
