Nice video, Gary. Sorry I saw it too late. I have the same 34 ict's in my 1600 beetle but I had to install a Facet pump instead the original pump. They go very well. Thanks from Canary Islands
@@hectorotani27 from what I’ve seen with the 34’s, they come too rich out of the box. Every engine is different, just go through the lean best idle process and slowly dial it in when driving
Outstanding brother!! I’ve used the dual Webers, I’ve been considering the Empi duals, since they have seemed to step up quality. Great video as usual brother!
Nice video, very easy to understand the breakdown of these. Quick question - the idle mixture screw, if you back it out does it lean the mixture? I assume that it does.
Thank you for that. The idle mixture screws are metering fuel, not air. As they are turned out you’re letting more fuel through the idle circuit. Turn out, richer, turn in, leaner.
Great video and relative to thousands of VW enthusiast. Got a stock type 4 engine, 1972 bay window running SVDA distributor, electronic ignition, Empi EPC34 duals and live in Florida . Any advice on jets, fuel/air mixture turns out, etc...? Got hesitation, rough idle....done everything (set valves, plugs, wires, timing, seafoam) ordered rebuild kits today. Thank you sir...just subscribed.
Thanks for the kind words and welcome to the channel. The entire purpose of my vids isn’t for me but for others to learn from my experience and knowledge that I have gained. I’m not an expert whatsoever! As for your bus, man every engine is different. I wouldn’t be able to really give you much advise without being there. All I can suggest is make sure you have them synced and at lean best idle.
I'm glad you have brought up the float level with the new shit fuel we have these days. I kept having fuel boil over after shutting down the motor and did some research and found out the new ethanol fuel has a different buoyancy and boiling point compared to the conventional gasoline that the float specs were originally set to. I also set my floats a mill or 2 lower just because of that. I have ran the empi's as well as Italian weber 34's and haven't seen any performance different besides the empi's having better idle quality due to tight throttle shafts:) it has been about 8 years since I ran the baby weber clones so they may have changed the jetting but they were extremely lean on cruise and I wondered why a set of dual carbs on a stock 1600 was slower than the single carb, well a few jet changes later and it ran well:) heck with the haters everything is china made and empi isn't the best but if thats all you can afford go thru it, check it out and run it they aren't bad at all:) thanks for the vid!
You make several great points. Not sure if they changed the bushings in the shafts or not but with these they almost look like bearings. Time will tell, I know a few people who have been running these for 3-4 years without any issues at all..... and their VW’s don’t sit around either.
@@VWJawbreaker they are a good carb, not a screamer like a couple idf's but they get the job done:) I think all the bad rep was from early carbs that had cross threaded idle mixture screws and manufacturing debris in the fuel bowl
V8N8T it must have been in the past, although I still open up new Empi carbs here and there and see debris in the bowls. Wish I could have put IDF’s on this engine but it’s a single port.
im having a problem identifying my dual carbs as i do believe they need a rebuild, mine look very similar except my cross bar runs below i believe i have a left and a right, also i have electric chokes, my local VW shops havnt been able to help, all i want to find are rebuild kits as i dont have 600 for new set , i may have them in one of my VW vids or i can sent you a shot or clip if you think you or anyone reading can help?

Off hand, I’m not sure exactly because it came in the kit. I’m thinking it was 1/4” ntp to 1/4” barb, 1/4” tee and 1/4” hose. If this is going on a dual port you don’t need to worry about the cross over tube.
@@VWJawbreaker Do you know who makes the bracket. Can't find one like this where you can run the stock fuel pump -only block off plates with a coil mount. THANKS !!
Thanks Gary. Great vid. I'm hung up on the empi or the weber carb set. I keep going back and forth. Which seem to set up better in your opinion? Awesome job my friend. Stay cool and be safe! Jim
Hey buddy! Honestly, between the Weber and the Empi they are the same.... the Weber’s now a days aren’t Weber anyway, they are Redline. I’ve seen good and bad with both, take your pick and either way go through them well, verify your jetting and have at it.
