    Dave, you made my day! Seeing you on the second bike instantly transported me back to 1966-67 , a Saturday morning, my buddy Don and I trying to get our Montessa La Crosse started. If it was going to run that day it would start like the first bike ( in the video) but if it didn't... no amount of kicking and bumping, plug and carburator removing was going to help. Fortunately, it started most days. I could listen to ten minutes of just the sound of those two strokes. Thanks for the reminder.

    Kick stating that old beauty will keep you young or give you a heart attack. I once rode a Greeves that I could not kick start and it froze up while doing about 40 mph and I came to a sliding stop. The good old days.

    We had several of the first 200cc Matadors out of our dealership in White Plains, N.Y. in 1965. They looked much like the 250cc versions you've gotten but didn't have alloy rims. My wife rode her first (and last) enduro on ours and I rode it the next year to win overall in a closed course enduro in Maybrook, N.Y. That led to us selling several of the enclosed chain models later on. That radial finned head was the same pattern used on other 250s at the time, I think Sammy Miller's trials bike had that as well as the motocross version of the Bultaco Mettise. That 200 was arguably the most fun woods bike I ever had, the slight weakness of the clip-on handlebars was a minor detraction.

      @@bullpencycles Got a memory bump you might find interesting. That early Matador had the brake light circuit running from the back side of the ignition coil. When you engaged the brake, the circuit would light the brake light bulb. If the bulb should fail, when you hit the brake, the engine would die! Don't know if the 250 had the same kind of circuit, don't recall ever servicing one but good to know how that worked.

    • @bullpencycles
      @bullpencycles  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@whalesong999 Yes, they did that on several models, I think with the taillight. It acts as some kind of fuse/regulator. I heard somewhere that some folks use a 12V bulb if they keep blowing.

    You must know Steve and Wes out here on the east coast? I've occasionally bought parts from them over the years and suprised to see Bultaco on their business card. Id be happy to own either of those machines how cool and 1966 is one of the early enduros for sure. When did Honda do the CLs? I think Yamaha enduros were 69 or 70, google says 68 though ok.

      I sold cars and trucks and motorcycles for a living for the best part of 20 years and I probably heard as much as anybody and what I always told a Critic how much money Hard Cash you got your pocket and that normally shuts them up because even if the listing is not perfect or they're complaining what they're basically doing or telling you without saying it or trying to say it in some other way they ain't got the money and the answer Dave that you should always give this is my asking price as you see it how much Hard Cash do you have in your pocket and that's the end of the conversation I love the bikes and I've had so many of them all I want to know is it got gas in it and will it run but I don't even care about the rest of that stuff the best car you got for sale when you got a car lot is the one that's got gas in it

    You are 150% right it is better you own it than it owning you, Dirt bikes and some street bikes need to have some wear and tear so do not have to worry about scratching it and making it dirty. I can keep my Harley's pretty clean and waxed up but a dirt bike no way Pedro.

    • @bullpencycles
      @bullpencycles  6 месяцев назад

      Oh, I dont know. Femsa was earlier. Cant really compare 60's to 70s. Femsa from the 60's is not Denso from the 70s. But a point Femsa ignition is reliable as any other for the time. Then they switched to Motoplat.
