    It brought me back to 1978. I had a brand new boltaco. It was blue. The weight was 230 pounds dry. I loved the bike, before that I had a 250 Honda stock. Both bikes were stock, but the bultaco ate that honda alive. I've always wanted to get one of the newer bikes but I haven't ridden trials ince then. I'm 73 and I was riding when I was 25-8. I've always loved trials, but I raised a family and didn't have the extra money. I sold it because I had kids. In fact, I sold the 78 because of my first child. I kinda regret it. I do love riding, but I've always rode a street bike since then. You'll learn a lot of stuff riding trials. You do a great job covering the sport. I stopped just a few points from being expert.

    Owned a Bultaco Sherpa, 240 second hand Fantic then my first new one a 301 Fantic. Fantics never missed a beat, great bikes. PEMS garage in Rochdale supplied them. This took me back, my mate Phil had the 300 twin shock Fantic too 👍👍👍👍👍

    Great to see an old Bult, I haven’t ridden a trial since 1991 (TY80) when my Dad would follow me on his 81 250 Bultaco. 30 odd years on and its time to rebuild the Bult at the back of the shed and get my 4 year old an Oset👌🏻

    I'd love a style of bike like that, but could it have a better seat? At least slightly larger, and higher. I understand that the seat may be in the way when doing the tricky stuff, but to just go on roads with occasional deviation to the playground, I'd really need a proper seat.

    • @TrialTube
      @TrialTube  Год назад +1

      Of course, originally these machines would have a leather seat installed from the factory (a long time ago). But these have been built specifically for competition us and as you have seen there isn't a huge amount of sitting down going on... Thank you for the support and the comment!

    • @uncletom1971

      Ok. But couldn't there be made some option seat for the 'inbetweeners' that like trial but are a little too lazy standing all the time?@@TrialTube

Yes going back in time is what a lot of people are doing now < the bikes are easy to work on they don't have the complicated mapping systems they have now and why should they !! Its trials its about man or woman and machine we won't to be able to do mechanics in the middle of nowhere if needed , i remember i got a puncher in the six days and filling the back wheel with bog grass just to get back to carpark ( everyone in the car park was laughing at what i did !!! no chance of getting the tire beed off the rim know lol Anyway what a great video well done to you both absolutely brilliant !! i have an arial 500 but a WW2 one (iron head ) i think people would love to see Ben in another episode ????? well done !!!!!!!

    The reed valve monoshock Fantic motor is very different to the piston port ones fitted to twinshock bikes, lots more power, and if you use crankcases from a watercooled bike, the clutch isnt bad either. A better reed block, smooths out the power delivery and gives more top end. It would have been interesting to compare the Fantic, to one of the Drayton TY Yamahas, currently being developed, which I have heard have some very trick parts fitted?

    I accept that no-stop is the way the sport is these days because that's what modern riders want to ride, but here's a question. There's a trial with one section and two riders entered. One rides the section without stopping, not even a pause to make the wheel stop turning, no hop to help him make it round the tight turn, no twenty second stand on the pegs while he works out where he's aiming for (or just getting up the courage). The other rider does all those things i've just mentioned. Neither fell off or even put a foot down. Who would you give the trophy to?

    • @benbutterworth3759
      @benbutterworth3759 Год назад

      Fastest man through the section

    • @TrialTube
      @TrialTube  Год назад +1

      Man who has spent time learning to balance….joking. Both are on a clean right? So it would have to be another section to decide. Which is fair.
      Only one set of rules splits the sport. The other lets you do what you prefer.

    • @davidevorider2002
      @davidevorider2002 Год назад +1

      It all depends on how the section is set out, are we talking club or world round
      As this is to different worlds and ends of the sport
      I can ride both but prefer the stop style and of late don’t go to none stop events and find it annoying when I turn up enter and then are told by some one it’s no stop today
      Or the odd observer it’s a five you went backwards
      We must not stop either part of the spot but it’s not for all

    • @TalesFromTheBlahSide
      @TalesFromTheBlahSide Год назад

      @@TrialTube its a daft debate really. its been going on for forty years now. yes, trials started off as reliability trials to see which manufacturer could get their belt driven no clutch bike to the top of porlock hill without stopping, but its moved on just a bit since then. skiing doesn't have a problem with a multi discipline sport so neither should trials. some classes or events can be non-stop and some can be stop/wait/think/hop/fanny about. There's room for everyone.

      you can have it either side on bultacos, definitely from 79 onwards and probably before then. The early , as in lates 60s early 70s bultos and monts had right side gearchange before changing over in later to left like other bikes. Bultacos left the option to change back to right hand gearchange easily on the production bikes but montesa didnt.
