Jonathan Murphy, the good Samaritan who was shot and killed after intervening during an attempted burglary at a mall in San Antonio, Texas, went to the mall with his wife to get their wedding rings cleaned, according to the boyfriend of Murphy's stepdaughter.

I got separated from my family when he started shooting. No one ran for the emergency exits even though he was running in the same crowd as us. Everyone outside was looking at me like I was crazy hiding behind cars and yelling at people doing the same. It's a real eye opener and makes you love the little things in life.
