Justice for Benny
Benny was a real one and he went so fast. That was one that really hurt from the very start.
long live Taserface !!! ...it's metaphorical !!!
And so the body count begins.
@@serinx oh that's the same guy?! hah that's awesome
The fact that Benny became one of my favorite characters just in one episode is amazing.
13:33 - “Okay, I take that back they can have her.” That took me out 😂
By the way, we 100% biked wherever, alone, in the dark, in the 1970s and 80s.
We didn't have the 24hour news cycle.
Crime was actually a lot higher back then, too.
CNN started the 24 hour news cycle in 1978. But then again, not that many people had cable back then. Most people had antennas back then, it would be another 10-15 years before most people were hooked up to cable. And I remember the local TV stations went off the air after midnight.
@@davidmarquardt9034 It wasn't really until the Gulf War that 24 hour news started to really be a major thing.
@@davidmarquardt9034 exactly. The neighborhood I grew up in didn't have cable access until the mid-nineties, for example. And even so, CNN was mostly national and world news.
@@fakecubed Indeed. Just, no one knew. :)
Mary's morals are so pure. She deserves a nice life with healthy children.
A beautiful girl.
You’re going to be so emotionally invested lol. We all hate that they shot Benny
I was 15 in1984 and the Duffer Brothers capture the 80s PERFECTLY 💕
Same! I was 14 in 1984. And played DnD with my core group of friends. This show (minus, you know) _was_ my childhood.
I was the same age as 'the party'. I think I had some of the same clothes, too.
The Duffer Brothers grew up in my hometown. There are so many references to Durham, NC throughout the show. To the point where my family watches just to see what they refer to each season.
Except for how easy it is to have friends.
Agreed! I was 19 in 1984 and had just graduated high school the prior year. Despite its reputation now, teens in much of Chicago and high scools were like that .
My Dungeons & Dragons group was pretty much the same as these four, arguing the precision in the statements we make about our favorite books and movies. We also were in the school's chess and computer clubs (of course we were!).
They're so young to be biking alone at night? I was their age in the 80s. Back then pretty much all kids that age rode their bikes all over the place during the day or night with no supervision. We just generally spent a lot more time going out and running around on our own back then than kids do these days. That's one of many things about the 80s that Stranger Things captures so well!
This type of show is not something that I typically will watch, but I'm glad that I started watching it. It's just a great story with a great cast. I hope you get as much enjoyment from this as I got from watching it.
RIP Benny.
Poor Benny.
Remember season 4 The party benny's ?? 😂😂
Yep this was the 80s USA literally the most accurate depiction ive ever seen
This is a fantastic series!!!! Please watch it all!
Welcome to the Stranger Things family, I’m excited for you to start on this journey, and I hope you’ll get all caught up on this show, before Season 5 (the final season) comes out next year
Lo and behold! You picked a great series!
"A boy got vanished, there's a monster, somebody got SHOT" 😂
Love your reactions, Mary. Really looking forward to your getting through the first season especially! It's my favorite for all the spooky suspense and ET/80s nostalgia 😃
great reaction!! America in the 80s was a wild time, I was of an age with these kids in that era (born in 69 so i turned 16 in 85) and played DnD just like these guys and was a "science nerd" likew them too lol so i really related to the show
Whoever told you it’s a kids show deserves a trophy. 😂 got you to really be surprised. And you have know idea what this show has in store for you. Can’t wait to see your journey.
Riding a bike alone in small town Indiana was a normal thing. I grew up in the early-mid 90's in a small Indiana town and was on my bike all day every day in the summer. Me and my friends would ride 7 miles to the next biggest city and ride around.
I was 9 in 1984 and in a NY suburb and yes I can assure you we all rode our bikes alone everywhere. Even after dark. Of course we also never had car seats in cars and were more likely to be sitting together with no belts or anything else in the back seat or the “way back” of a station wagon. It was normal then.
The Duffer brothers definitely did a great job capturing the era’s clothes, attitudes, lingo etc (and the eras horror movie tropes - including Winona Rider!).
Taking a moment to appreciate how iconic the title sequence is. And so many memes.
this is pretty much an investigation show with three stories; the kids, the teens, and the adults. and Winona Ryder should have won an emmy for this season because she does a fantastic and heartbreaking performance.
A friend of mine had her son disappear and called the cops. Standard ops is they search the house first too because sometimes parents miss somewhere. Three hours later, thermal helicopter out there, volunteers, the kid comes wandering out of sleeping under a blanket in the van.
Didn't watch the first season when it aired. Kept hearing about it. Gave it a shot. Now I binge every season when they are released. Welcome aboard, Mary!
Glad to have you, and thanks.
Enjoy!
Millie Bobby Brown is a world class actor. I first saw her in Enola Holmes and fell in movie-love with her right them. When I saw this, holy moly, I appreciated her even more.
Cell phones have really changed the horror genre! What we're once totally inescapable situations can suddenly be overcome by a character simply pulling out their phone. It's interesting that here, the writers were able to retain the feeling of independence... and sometimes desperate isolation, that existed in life before cell phones, by setting the story in the eighties -while, at the same time, still allowing instant communication between some of the characters with the walkie-talkies.
One of my all time favorite shows, I’m really happy that you’re experiencing it too!
Thank you, Mary! 👾 All hail Ross Duffer and Matt Duffer.
I am so mad they are pushing on your videos because you are absolutely one of my favorite reactors ever Mary. You have helped me so much through my bad times. Watching you is medicine for me. I am so so happy for you becoming a mama. I hope you never go away.
Mary, you are going to love this story. I will love watching these along with you.
This show is very nostalgic and the first 2 seasons are definitely some of my favorite seasons of TV of all time.
I'm so down for this!!!
yeah, whoever told you this is a kids show was wrong. There's a childhood nostalgic heart at the core of this show, so maybe that's where the confusion comes from.
😂😂😂😂😂 you said “why don’t American kids come thru the door”😂😂 you crack me up! It COULD BE that she’s not allowed to have guys in her room at all , thus the sneaking in. 😂 I promise you it’s not just an American thing😂😂😂
Im so excited you are watching this. This is my childhood. I hope you watch the whole thing. You will not regret it
"Oh no, as a boy mom watching a show about a missing boy...." Oh from that remark alone I just KNOW that Winona's acting as Joyce must've DESTROYED you this first season jhgdchfhvj- (she plays the distraught mother role so unbelievably well, it's nuts)
To answer the bully's question "who would makemoer morney at the freak show?" it'd be toothless simply because he can do the "Arm Thing".
You may not know if you’re going to like the show, but we know. You’re going to love it.
Mary: *sees Eleven “aawww poor kid”
Also Mary: *sees Eleven use her powers “kill it with fire”
You such a nice person Mary. Always enjoy your mimics and jokes. I think you gonna like this show.
I'm so excited for these reactions!
Almost everybody that had ever seen stranger things loves it! Ive only ever heard 3 people say that it was a kid show and they didnt care for it as much or stopped watching it, and I honestly do not understand that at all. Its an amazing show!
This show can best be compared to combining the Harry Potter movies, "It: Chapter One" and "The Goonies" and make it a TV show. There is a "strange thing", teens use kid logic to solve it (like analyzing behavior IRL from how they play games, eample in 16:08) and hopefully not die. Death in this show is real. And it is great because we watch the "survivors" grow up over the course of the seasons remembering their mistakes and lessons.
Absolutely you will love the whole show. It just keeps getting better. You will have more questions before you have answers, but you will start getting answers. The pacing on this show is so well done. It really keeps you hooked.
As a scardy cat myself, who stays clear of horror and gory stuff I loved Stranger Things. Yes it was scarry and I watched some things on low volume and with covered eyes but the story was worth it !! Can't wait to see the next episodes
I love the science teacher
Please keep watching!! I think you will love it!
Not even a minute into the video and I love the reaction; I guess that Mary might be referring to somebody else as lots of people claim this was for kids... usually people who never watched it and claim that the main cast were mostly kids (there are actually enough adults on the main cast list to even that out even if we ignore the actress and actor for Nancy and Jonathan just because they play teens) or simply kids who watch this without adult supervision...
and about that adventure part... as I am already directing this at your editor, Mary, this contains spoilers
the kids' story arc is indeed an adventure movie; but what people like a lot about this first part of ST is that each arc has a different genre to it; Joyce' family drama turns into Poltergeist like haunted house, Hopper's procedural crime turns into a conspiracy thriller; and the teenage drama of Nancy and Jonathan turns into them sleuthing their way through a mystery and the actual monster movie bit; whicht is why the later parts do not work for some;
Haha, I know why I got some floor long grey black out curtains from IKEA; we got really heavy brown curtains when I was a kid... we mostly only closed them when we broke the slide-projector out to review the family photos with my grandparents
This show is about kids, but it s most certainly not a kids' show. Not even a little bit. But it's a great show.
I'm someone who was their age in 1980s America, so the show really resonates with me.
Bulk up because it’s going to be a wild ride
Winona Ryder is famous for being in "Aliens 4: Resurrection". It's a sci-fi movie in the 90's.
This first season is so amazing, enjoy the ride Mary! 😊
Stranger Things is a great show, you’ll definitely want to watch the rest of the seasons
I think you're going to love the series. Whoever told you it's a "kids show" is nuts, but it is that kind of young people in peril thing of classic horror with calls back to classic 80's kids movies like the Goonies and E.T. It gets scary, from time to time, but nothing all that much worse that what you've seen in the first episode (though there are some moments of gore later on).
"Climb through the window, American style..." somebody would have come up missing. My parents did not play THAT. And they would have told my grandparents uggghhhh the embarrassment.
You will love every episode Mary.
My youngest niece was only 12 when she was hooked on Stranger Things so I think you’ll be fine 😆
Love this show and I am so glad you are watching this and look forward to taking this journey with you.
The way American homes are laid out it’s SUPER HARD to sneak a boy in through the front door
This is going to be quite the ride.
I’m the same age as the characters in this show. The look and feel of the kids’ world in 1984 is very well done.
It’s a great series. I wish I could get Stranger Things amnesia so I could experience it for the first time. You might also like Only Murders in the Building on Hulu. Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez. Great comedy.
0:33 It's mostly inspired by Spielberg movies of the 80's
I'm so very excited that you're starting this series! You're going to have a lot of fun, meet some great characters, get a manageable number of scares, and have a really good time.
3:55 No, they're not going to kill a dog. At least, not literally; they did shoot Benny.
I think ur gonna love this series, ur going to feel sad in a few things buuuuut this is an amazing show, worth the pain.
I love this show! It kept me totally engaged! I wanted to know more! Can't wait to see if you get pulled in like I did!
So excited for you to starting Stranger Things!! Really hope you like it even if it’s scary. It isn’t scary enough to be considered horror really.
I'm so happy ur watching stranger things !
Yeiiii so happy you are watching stranger things!!
Ooooh, that's a great series. First 2 seasons are very good.
JAAAAA Mary is watching Stranger Things 🎉🥳
Great reaction! Great show!
Yay!!!! So happy that you are starting on this journey.
Definitely not a kids show. FANTASTIC young cast though, but mixed in with adult and teenagers as well.
3:49 F… the kid, but don‘t kill the dog.😮
My started to what Stranger Things at the age of 8. She loved
Sweet. This is a fave series of mine 💖
Im soooo excited for this!
TRUST US! You are gonna love this show! Def not a "kid's show". It's gonna just draw you in and then you'll be stuck!
16:25 Because then the parents would know.
So relatable to my kids ..lovelovelove ❤️✌🏻🌷
Oh man, time to BUCKLE UP Mary, lol. You're in for one hell of a ride.
We go through the window because their parents will catch you if you try to go through the door! =P
Uhoh, the first season gets to me so much more now I'm a mum... Good luck Mary 😅xxx
Some people compare this show to Goonies and Stand by me but with CGI and 4K
It is not a kid show : It look like a kid show.
Why ? Because they remix all the 80's kid's show, the Goonies, ET, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, etc... But in a modern way, and for adult.
Thoses movies are litteraly cut to enjoy adult who grow up on the 80's / 90's !
This is not gorey. It's not for little kids. For young people, teens, and adults. A little spooky, some jump scares. Some dark scenes with violence, nothing too bad. A lot of fun 😊.
Not a "kids" show, though reasonably safe for teens. It's clearly aimed at people who grew up in the 80's, that's when you're going to get most value out of it IMO. The kids would be maybe 10 years older than me, but I totally recognise the world. I remember I saw the trailer for s2 having never heard of it before and I thought it was a movie, I'm a sucker for production values and ST has production values by the truckload.
They are playing a board game. It's like Tetris but in real life.
Excited!!!
You will love it!
Nice!! Eager to see this lol
Your gonna get hooked 🎉❤
I play too much dbd xD My first instinct in 08:44 was to go left and up to the generator xD
I am NOT I repeat, I will NOT feed on your tears or pain. But I will be laughing at something. It just hasn't happened yet
Yooo I watch you from Breaking Bad reactions and Harry Potter also mow ST🔥
I’m always totally confused when I hear a reactor say someone told them Stranger Things is for kids. It’s not even remotely close to being a show for kids. That’s an insane take.
Oh hell yes!!
Welcome to the stranger things family
Lets just say i haven't met a single person who doesn't love this show. Another great show on Netflix is breaking bad it's older but it has really good actors too and some great writing if you haven't seen it yet its another must see show it will seem slow at first but really takes off after the second season.
That poor one boy in your class!
