    I saw DiMeola with Return to Forever when he was 19. It was one of those moments, like the first time I heard Eruption by EVH, I wanted to quit playing. 😂😂 Thankfully I didn't and guitar has enriched my life.
    You can clearly hear Chick Corea's influence in this song

    I love Al and this brings me great pleasure seeing Al on the road again with that Les Paul and real amps on an electric tour. Don't get me wrong I love his acoustic stuff but its the electric albums that won me over.

    David, thanks so much for this upload. You had great seats. We were in the general admission cheap seats on the floor. His mix was incredible. Great to see Al again. I figured this might be his last "electric tour", so better see him while we can.

    Glad he kept his revered '71 Les Paul Custom/when he was doing his meet and eat get togethers in his home during the pandemic he alluded to selling it if the price was right/ I don't think he ever sounded better on any other electric !!!###

      dimarzio pickups ?

    • @JohnnyNation
      @JohnnyNation 6 месяцев назад +2

      @ddking-mb4ir That was one of his first mods/ he obviously had recent work done as it originally had a varitone switch/but he said he was returning to the '71 on this tour and the heavy pearl inlay on the headstock is the giveaway/ which his refinished black '59 standard would not have/ though they now look similar.

      He had a set of Super Distortions/Dual Sounds originally. He may have loaded it with his signature DiMarzio set, first available in the late 70s. I've tried them. Good pickups, lots of clarity, but not as powerful as Super Distortions. If you see a coil tapping switch in place of a tone knob on one of Al's Les Pauls then it's likely a Super Distortion/Dual Sound set. The Dual Sound is just a Super Distortion that comes with a switch to go into parallel mode, btu I think Al used it for coil splitting. You can really hear it in use on Splendido Hotel and Electric Rendezvous. Then he started playing PRS around '83. I think the black PRS with the dot inlays is one of his best sounding guitars. Whenever I've heard him play the tone was amazing. Don't know what pickups he was using. I asked DiMarzio and they said he was probably using stock PRS pups.@@ddking-mb4ir

    @David Gold, I have been a follower of Al and his music since 1972 and was at a concert he did here in London maybe 5 years ago now. tbh, I was disappoited with him but, ok, I'm a purist perhaps: he was playing PRS guitars and sounded like Carlos on speed. Now, I am a huge Carlos fan but Al's sound/style is MADE for Gibsons like he is playing here💕💕. thank you SO MUCH for posting this.💥💥

      @@davidgold6407It was there. No doubt a super-spreader event. With all my shots, the symptoms were a sinus infection… very runny nose and sneezing, and fatigue. Got tested cause I was going into a tennis tournament. Sure enough, tested positive as did my wife whom I gave it to.

    I first heard Elegant Gypsy (the album) when I was 13/14, and a budding guitarist at the time. I wore this album out. I just turned 59 two days ago. The idea of playing the same song - no matter how amazing it is - that many decades later would be painful. In fact, one of the reasons I left music is I literally got sick of rehearsing and playing the same songs over and over, and then envisioning my future and realizing that if I actually fulfilled my dreams at the time, I would literally be playing the same songs for the rest of my life. Being bands like The Stones, or Crosby, Stills & Nash - or U2 - or similar - and being in the situation where people only want to hear shit you wrote many decades ago is my idea of hell. Imagine playing Jumpin’ Jack Flash for 60 years!

      If you were being paid Stones or U2 money, you’d do it happily.
