    It may be winter now, but here is some extra footage from summer to appease the algorithm overlord whilst I am back in lockdown (for the millionth time).
    I'm happy to have Eva back in this weeks vlog as we explore the cultural Chinese alleyways of Tian Zi Fang, navigate through the AAA Scenic area of LaoWaiJie, and finish in Found 158 for Eva's birthday (in July... oops).
    Have you ever visited these places? Let me know in the comments below which is your favourite!

    Hi Natt those streets look so vibrant and colourful I love the hanging decorations I have Chinese lanterns red and gold with tassels up for Christmas but it looks so good all the different little shops just looking at it all gives a happy feel if you know what I mean and the choices there are for different bars and places to eat just so different to here our boring old shops . Certainly a lovely place . Hope you never had to many of those nice alcoholic drinks lol . If I don’t message before have a nice Christmas I know it’s different out there but have a nice time . xxx🥰

      It was lovely, things are beautiful and christmassy here now but my Christmas video has had lots of delays thanks to COVID and gingerbread house disaster 😂 The family legacy “12 drinks of Christmas” will hopefully be uploaded to RUclips at Christmas, I’m still recovering from that escapade 2 years later!! Merry Christmas to you all. Lots of love ❤️

    There are so many places I haven't been to in Shanghai, even though I had lived there for almost two years; and the bars and Cafés you visited I barely heard of...☹

    This is quite sad actually. Before the pandemic this area is PACKED with tourists... so Shanghai natives like me almost never go there. lol it's so nice and empty now but, of coz, bad for all the businesses there...

    • @ExpatNatt
      @ExpatNatt  Год назад +3

      I thought the same but actually they’ve expanded so much within the past year with lots of new shops and restaurants. In my opinion it’s much nicer when it’s not packed with tourists because you feel like you can breathe in the shops! It got quite busy in the evening which was surprising to me.

    I am so happy to see this video, thanks to you, because it wasn't that long ago when Tian Zi Fang was completely deserted due to recent Covid surge. It's great that many businesses have reopened in this area. Well, it's winter and more people may come when spring comes. Know nothing about Lao Wai Jie-perhaps it's fairly new, but clearly it attracts many expats!

    • @ExpatNatt
      @ExpatNatt  Год назад

      Lao Wai Jie is pretty much just for expats, it seems to have a very long history since it is one of only a few places to be awarded with a Triple A Scenic award. It has lots of international restaurants which is nice if you feel homesick but definitely different to Chinese food streets. I most go there for the events that they often have there ❤️

      @@ExpatNatt Thank you very much for the background on Lao Was Jie-very interesting! I also didn't know about Triple A Scenic Award. China is changing so fast. The last time I visited Shanghai was two decades ago, and I am sure I won't recognize many places when I go back to visit. Since I am half-Shanghainese, I am always interested in seeing what's going on there.

      It can change so quickly here, even in 6 months there are so many new things, let alone in 20 odd years! That’s one of the things I love the most about Shanghai, it’s always changing ❤

    My city of Melbourne has also got a lot of lane way cafes and restaurants like that. In fact it is one of the things we are famous for, though these sorts of places here tend to attract ultra fashionable hipsters so we avoid the food mostly because we prefer genuine traditional cuisine rather than tbe latest food fads

    • @ExpatNatt
      @ExpatNatt  Год назад

      Yeah this seems to have avoided the overpriced hipster cafes and shops which is nice! There’s lots of really good traditional foods here.
