Had surfer's ear surgery in 2019. Ear's were fully overgrown, 99 percent in my right ear and 94 in my left. Could not go under water once without them getting clogged. Dr. McAfee at Coastal ENT in Neptune is your guy. The best. Trained under the surgeon in Santa Cruz who pioneered the technique. He chisels the growth away, much like a diamond cutter. No drill involved. Did one ear in March and one in April. I had only slight pain from the surgery (some people I know have had more). 100 percent recommended, as I haven't worn earplugs since and my ears are completely clear.
Ben, just don't forget about preparing for some semblance of retirement. It'll come up kinda fast. I got sober at 42 and found myself in respiratory school at 48 yrs of age. 2 yrs of school and I got a good job. Respiratory Therapist. Three 12 hour shifts per week. Plenty of time to still surf, fish, camp, travel. And I'll get a pension cuz I got a job at COUNTY hospital. Life is good sober AND prepared. Peace
5 months back on the sober train after 2.5 years doing more research, almost killed me. I never stopped watching your vlogs, although it was tough watching the positivity when I was in a super dark place. Wednesday before Thanksgiving i was paddling out at 39th street ship bottom and almost died on one of those bombs 💣 we're all just human, stay humble, stay teachable, stay grateful 🤙

Since watching your vlogs, ive quit smoking, i gained 100 pounds during covid and i got injured hard in 2020. I've started working out with a trainer and eating super clean. Crazy enough, i quit drinking without even thinking about it. I found drinking more than one drink was boring and 25 years of playing drums in bars, i was tired of what i experienced with drunk patrons. I'm just over with booze. I've had surfer ear surgery twice. You do not want them drilled you want the ecstocis micro chiseled. Much more modern and much less recovery time. Dr. HETZLER in Santa Cruz Ca. Specializes in it. That's all he does because of the cold water in Santa Cruz. He does both ears at the same time in half the time other surgeons take by Drilling.

Happy BDay Ben. Surfer's ear can be rough, the scan will help determine the bone growth in your ears and it's not a pleasant thing to have it drilled out according to a few friends but you have to get it done or the bone will continue to grow until your ear is closed up.
Oh the damn ears!...had the surgery years ago and it made a huge difference. I use Doc pro plugs for surfing and diving, and they keep the water out and let you equalize I you get pushed deep. Huge fan and waiting for you to hit south africa bro!
I had both my ears drilled for surfer's ear at Jefferson about six years ago. The surgeries were successful. Not fun but not painful thankfully. It' real deal surgery, you will be intubated. Good luck Ben.

It may be a mission to make it all the way out west but theres a doctor in Santa Cruz, Dr. Douglas Hezler, who pioneered a new way to do the surfer’s ear surgery that is WAY less intensive and gnarly as the usual practice. No drills, no incisions, nothing heavy like that. He goes in with a tiny chisel and its way less invasive and hard on the body. The recovery period is way smaller and my ears have never been better. You should check it out and see if its something that makes sense for you!
That's who I used. He was great. I had it done back in the 90s the old-fashioned way and it was awful. Hetzler did it for me 4 years ago and it was a breeze. No pain at all. Did both ears in half the time other doctors would take for one ear.
Bruh, he wasn't that far down, get benzos from doc or taper homie. Good luck, and rehabs will just have you coming back, their a business, only you can fix you.
Not sure if you wear ear plugs but if not it might be worth looking into . I got scare tissue in my ears from the many ear infections i have had . Wish i went the ear plug route

THAT SHIT IS BEYOND DIFFICULT, LET ME TELL YOU WHAT😂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

Hey Ben, so Brett Barley just had exostosis ear surgery. He went to California for a different kind of procedure. I know you guys are friends, and may have discussed this with him. But on all accounts I believe his procedure was fantastic.
