    Thanks for this review! And thanks to your friend Frosty Reviews for hooking you up with this figure.
    I have the entire first wave now. When I ordered they were $19.99 each at Amazon, including Popeye, so anyone interested should keep an eye out for Popeye to go on sale again.
    I went and opened Popeye after watching your review. Here is what I noticed:
    I didn't have the paint issue with the pipe-side eye being brown. The faces on both heads are lined in black for me, and the eyes are black.
    The skin is definitely glossy, but it wasn't terrible. Like you, I would have preferred it to be matte.
    None of the joints on my Popeye were loose (certainly not as loose as Super7 figures can be), but a few were not as tight as I would have liked (e.g. the waist).
    Yes, Popeye is not 6" tall despite being a 1/12 scale figure, but I think this is because the characters are such an assortment of heights. Popeye isn't supposed to be a big guy, and Bluto is huge compared to him. The scale in the comics and cartoons doesn't line up nicely with an average human scale.
    Popeye's hat should be magnetic. It's not a very powerful magnet, but the hat should just kind of sit on his hair without falling off. As long as you don't shake the figure, you can even turn Popeye upside down, and the hat will stay in place.
    This was my first figure from Boss Fight Studio, and I am quite pleased with it. I would have bought it at the normal retail price, but I don't know how far into the line I would have gone at that price. If I can keep getting the figures for $19.99, I am probably all in. Oh, and the white sailor suit Popeye in Wave 2 will come with an unopened, labeled can of spinach. 😄
    Finally, Popeye looks great with Lone Coconut's Plunderlings! They will share a shelf.

      Thank you so much for compliment and all the information! The magnet definitely isn’t working then. Someone else mentioned it and I was totally surprised! The white suit looks great to me and glad it has the alternate can

    Popeye was a side character in his own comic originally. Look it up. The main character was Olive Oyl and the comic was Thimble Theater. Creator EC Segar drew in this crude talking sailor Popeye to take the main cast to an island in one story and he was meant to be a one off character. Audiences loved Popeye so much that they demanded he be brought back.

    As 40 something y/o, it really surprises me Popeye seems to be so popular with collectors - that are even younger than me, let alone I'm like 40 years too young to be _that_ into Popeye lol. I mean yeah, I watched a bit of the cartoon as a kid, and the Robin Williams movie, but I guess all of that didn't resonate as much as others 🤷🏼‍♂️. But such awesome figures are constantly being force fed to me, so I might have to get at least one. And the good news is this thing is affordable & more fitting w/other figures than the expensive One:12 ones.
    *As I continued to watch, yeeeeah, even with the all plastic look that matches most figures, the Mezco ones would be the way to go, _IF_ you wanna spend money like that/an 87 year old major Popeye fan.

    • @NostalgiaUnboxed
      @NostalgiaUnboxed  Год назад +2

      That certainly pricier, but they make great stuff for sure. I only saw probably a handful of episodes and never actually saw the Robin Williams one. I’m 38, so we probably had similar experiences with it

      I too grew up watching Popeye cartoons in the 80's. And I watched the Robin Williams movie of Popeye also. Kinda surprised that any one of today would even consider Popeye a collectible figure.

    • @JeremiahWMartin
      @JeremiahWMartin Год назад +1

      I must be the odd one out here. 😄
      I'll be 44 later this year. There were contemporary Popeye cartoons on when I was a kid in the 80s and reruns of the Popeye cartoon from the 60s. I think even some of the original Fleisher Studios cartoons used to be shown on TV.
      There was also Popeye brand spinach (both fresh and canned). Popeye made me want to try spinach as a kid, and while I never got super strength from it, I have always liked spinach.
      Of course, franchises like MOTU, Star Wars, G.I. Joe, and TMNT meant more to me (and continue to influence my toy collecting), but I have always had a soft spot for Popeye.

  • @shawnpatrick1877
    @shawnpatrick1877 Год назад +2

    All of the comments about Popeye's red hair are funny to me because I had the same reaction while watching the 1980 live-action movie as a kid. Robin Williams had the red hair in that movie as Popeye. A lot of things in that film were based more on Segar's comic strips than the cartoons. I couldn't understand why he wasn't bald back then, but my dad filled me in, so I've been prepared for this figure for over 40 years now. 🤣

    I love Popeye. I wish boss fight would be able to get to make, all Hannah Barbera cartoon figures. Well just the versions between '60's-'90's. I know it would be very expensive.
