- In part five of Ralph McQuarrie, Star Wars Concept Artist: Tribute to a Master, concept artist and illustrator Marc Gabanna, Industrial Light & Magic's Scott Farrar, and others continue their discussion of the industry giant's work, from his personal style to the wide-ranging impact of his paintings.
This is an excerpt from the Ralph McQuarrie tribute "Dreams and Visions Press" produced for Star Wars Celebration VI in 2012, drawing from interviews conducted for a feature length documentary on Ralph McQuarrie that is currently in production.
Current Star Wars artists and designers reflect on working with, and learning from, Ralph McQuarrie.
Walid Wenzerfy I am not asking you for anything, but ask my self if every fan gives two dollars, Mos espa would be maybe a small hotel or a real Spa,lol.
Imagine being remembered like this when you die, having everyone who knew you saying such sweet things about you. That to me is true success in this world.
Definitely. I totally agree with this. While at the same time, as an aspiring illustrator and concept artist I can't get over some of the things my recent ex gf said to me. Fantastic model she is too. Being around so much great energy til this recent relationship made me realise if I really am being the kind, truthful, humble friendly person I feel I am right now.
This one started making my eyes water. :' )
I have so much respect for this artist .... He will never be forgotten.
Whenever I look at any of his illustrations I'm just in awe I could stare at it all day. Creative genius man
I've loved Star Wars since I was a kid and few things can come pare to my love for Star Wars... but if if there was anything to top it it would be Ralph's art work. It inspires me each and every time I see it no matter how many times I've seen it.
Ralph McQuarrie will be an influence and inspiration for many generations to come.
Thanks for such a noving tribute to such a legendary and humble and creative genius that was Ralph McQuary . I wish I would have had the privilege of meeting such a fine gentleman
It really makes me sad to think that I'll never meet him. Such an inspiration.
why would you meet him? he was a painter
Thank you MR Ralph McQuarrie and MR George Lucas for unforgettable and incredible Star wars universe!...
This documentary series was great. Ralph McQuarrie's work was one of the reasons I got into design. I was like 10 years old the first time I came across his work.
From the year he was born, you would never think he would be so much into it by the time he made these movies. Never lost his touch. Even in his older age. Really cool.
I love all this, I love star wars, I'm even named anakin appels, I've been a star wars fan all my life and I'll always love star wars, I hope I'll get to work on something that is about star wars, it's my dream to work on star wars. I'm very passionate about it Ralph did an amazing job along with george and dave filoni, all these guys, who made star wars amazing and still do in many ways... May the force be with you!
I really love Ralph McQuarrie because Star Wars and film itself wouldn't look the say without him... :)
One of the main Reasons i went into art, love his work for a long time.
Thanks for these videos, they are great ;D
We will all always remember Ralph through his work.
Like one of the people said: Even without his talent, he just seemed like a really nice guy to be around. Something for everyone to strive for! :)
As always, amazing.
Most treasured gift
Another illustrator to have as my personal hero.
The man was an incredible, humble talent.
I Love This!
It's be nice to see his artwork during the narrative? Why are we watching people talk and not seeing the art they are talking about?
Incredible.
Ralph McQuarrie is to SW Art as John Williams is to SW Music. Masterful!
Lucas choose wisely.
How come we didn't get to see his art?
LeVar Anthony They showed it in the other parts of the Tribute; plus check Google, there's pages of his fantastic artwork.
Will there be commando like battle droid that looks like republic commando trooper and will Jedi master eeth koth die in comic story or anime cartoon
Do Colin Cantwell next.
Cool
dat tongue doe
Will ahsoka tano hug her dead master to forgive him in future story Star Wars
McQuarrie's work was a direct reflection of his work in the aerospace industry. There are numerous equally talented industrial illustrators who never achieved as much adulation as he did. He was very lucky.
I got 10th view on a star wars video! :D
First!!!
nope
Knightikhan Yeah I was obviously apart from Star Wars itself because that's not fair... :)
+GeneralJSmithjo
who's watching this in 1048 BC?
:(
2:38 the one problem with george...
Bad dialogue and ideas are not being questioned by the staff. Hamill did question one dialogue. Editing can save a movie but a decision should be questioned. I agree he should be questioned more often.
really..? no women at all in those art jobs?
Why is disney so obsessed with this guy. I love star wars, and I respect his concept art created the star wars universe, but why so obsessed? I mean, not only are you making the storm troopers from episode 7 helmets look alot like his drawings, but you guys make the whole animation team working on Rebels make every stop motion look like a Ralph drawing, even the lightsabers look like spaghetti noodles (which if you guys see his drawings, you would see a white lightsaber which is spaghetti thin), cause disney logic
What is so wrong about look at his past work and using more of it. Hell J.J. Abrams wants the new movies to feel more like what the concept art he came up with.
I agree with the lightsaber thing. They look too strange compared to the movies.
