Hi from Scotland Brandon. Enjoy your vids and seeing how you guys do things over there. Just wanted to say about the hydraulic oil leaking when you removed the filter. It's not because you have the equipment in the wrong position. The tank is pressurised so when you opened the filter cover the pressure back fed the oil out through the filter. The silver dome thing that looks like a bell on top of the tank is the pressure release valve. If you press and hold the black cap on top of it it will let the air pressure out. You should do this before removing the filler cap or filters. The machine should be parked with the equipment fully extended on the ground, offset in the central position, blade down. This is the position for checking the hyd oil level. When you have fitted the new filter, add hyd oil if required up to mid way on the sight glass. Then to repressurise the tank - Leave the hyd oil filler cap loose, and with the engine at idle / tickover fully extend all the rams, boom, dipper, bucket and offset. Shut engine off then tighten the filler cap. When you return the equipment to normal position the tank is now pressurised again. Hope this helps for next time.
I just bought the same machine, absolutely love it so far. Thanks for all the details and info I will definitely reference this video when I service mine.
sideshowbob 28 awesome they are great machines! Also you may want to check all the hose clamps on the return lines to the hydraulic tank. I had some that were loose.
Brandon, No need to apologize for your content. I was a fan when you had less that 2k subs and they have improved over time. This was an informative vidja. Even folks not in the business learn things from these vidjas. Keep it up.
Grab a white marker and write on the cap for the hydraulic filter to extend the cylinders first. Unless you know you'll remember in 250 hours - I think I'd probably forget. That thing is really easy to service! Well done, Takeuchi! Thanks, Brandon, for the review and info. It was actually very interesting! Thanks for the video!
S.O.T. Metalworks thanks buddy! It wasn’t much of a review after watched it but I was tired and my allergies were killing me after sweeping the floor 🤣
You use that excavator practically every day so I think I would keep it at 250 when you change your filters out. What was funny was the other Day me and dad were watching TV, and I saw my very first television commercial about this brand. Dad asked me if I was familiar with them, and I said yeah I’ve got a friend who uses one in Missouri, and I told him how much you like it.
Great video, commentary, and the pros and cons of your new "baby". Well done Brandon, beautiful piece of equipment. Have a safe week! Doug@ the "ranch"
I rented the tb 260 about a month ago. Prior experience was 5minutes in a much smaller mini. At the end of the week I had improved a lot. Any other equipment I rented I could not wait to return it but I was disappointed when the tb 260 was returned. Good video and good luck 👍
I forgot to ask after I would stop the tb 260 and lower the blade and start digging the beeping noise like when you are tracking would not stop and would continue till I moved and reposition. Any ideas. The rental company did not know anything about the machine
H Phillips I think there is a crane mode or button and if it’s hit it sounds that travel sound alarm noise. I could be wrong on that but I know my 153 would do that from time to time cause I always bumped that button on accident
Our E50 Bobcat recommends service every 500 hrs too. We are doing it every 250 still just to be safe, even though the oil still looks new at 250. Nice review Brandon.
@@eliteearthworksllc I think the manufacturers are learning service intervals can be lengthend. You might try 500 and see how the oil looks then go from there.
Brian Gardiner that’s true I know our Yukon says every 7500 miles which to me is crazy but your right with synthetic oils now the intervals are much longer
@@eliteearthworksllc I guess if these new teeth dont last maybe you could talk to DigginOk. He gets some really good teeth somewhere near him that seem to last.
Hi brandon just a little tip when installing the teeth with dowel pins clean the tooth shank hole up good where the dowel pin goes in and also put a little anti-seize on dowel pin and the next time you have to change teeth the dowel pin comes out ease. They sometimes get seized in the shank if you don't.Nice to see you care about servicing your equipment.
That was very informative, Brandon. Just in general, and personally, I would stay with the 250 or so hours on the oil & filter. All these manufacturers are claiming these extended service intervals, probably as selling points, but it sure can't hurt to stay under 300 hours. Oil is cheap compared to an engine! You did a nice job and thanks for sharing.
Dale Premo thank you! Yeah I’m with you I don’t mind doing these services and yes oil is cheap. 500hr just seems like a ton with the abuse these machines take. Appreciate the comment 👍🏻
500 hours is not that much, a normal car is about the same with about 20.000 km witch is a pritty good interval. The yanmar will take it with ease. Running them over here in hitachi zx50's with over 10.000 hours
Construction Channel Luxembourg thank you! I try to take good care of them, it’s cheaper to do maintenance then replace them all the time. I want everything as nice as it can be 😁
These Takeuchi machines are good quality and reliable as long as you service them in which your doing ,the cab on the 12 track loader is brilliant plenty room and the best is the door lifts over you head ,so you can work with the door open other manufacturers don’t do this ,you got a nice work shop mate
Not the funnest part of owning equipment but so much cheaper doing it yourself! I usually make a day of it. A rainy day of it. All the mowers and tractors. All in a day. Along w greasing. Tire pressure etc. If I'm gonna b greasy I'm gonna make a day of it !! Lol. Trucks plows Sanders snow blowers etc during the winter I usually do 1 at the time. Lol Great video!!
That is true but it’s a necessary part of owning equipment. I do the same thing on rainy. I always say rainy days are expensive lol. Appreciate the comment
I work in the road department for my county. I made the same mistake you did with the hydraulic filter when I was adding hydraulic oil to my boom mower. Had the boom all the way extended and oh crap did I have a mess. Mechanic says "you know Mike, you're supposed to keep the boom in its cradle when you do that." Yeah thanks, now you tell me. Pretty sure everyone does that at least once.
No matter whether it’s my metal oil filter wrench or my strap wrench.... I always have to put it right in front of my face and twist it to figure out how it goes on. Hello sir. I like your job on the service of this beautiful piece of equipement. I do have an TB240 from 2017 and I am looking for a service book for it. I see you have it. How can I get one for a TB240? KEEP UP GHE GOOD WORK.
One thing that is annoying with the Takeuchi tb180 fr that I run is that if you have to replace a grease zerk they are British thread and are hard to find.
Nice video on servicing the excavator. Looks like a lot of thought went into the Takeuchi as far ease of service. Nice machine Brandon have you found a new dealer for Takeuchi
@Elite Earthworks LLC : I have a TB290 and the dealer just sold me 2 fuel filters today. The first one is obviously the main one that is easy to see on the right side towards the back. But the other one looks exactly like the one you showed at the 4:11 mark. It's in a box that says it's a fuel filter too. I just don't see where that one is supposed to go for some reason. And I can't seem to find anything in the service manual for this second filter. Do you have any advice? Thanks.
It might be the water separator filter. I’m not sure on the 290’s but it’s probably on the left side when looking at the machine from the back. You’ll have to take the bottom black part off then the filter should slide out. I’m not sure why they label it as a fuel filter too it’s a bit confusing
@@eliteearthworksllc $104k for the 370. I can handle $77k a lot easier than I can $104k for what we do. If I need bigger, I’ll rent bigger, until we grow big enough to justify something bigger.
when servicing track drives. a little cleaning goes a long ways before opening anything.. compressed air Hint.. to blow any dirt out from around the drain, fill and level plugs.. so less chance of getting any dirt into the track drives.. when the oil comes out really dirty. refill.. lift the track using the boom.. run the track for a minute or two so the clean oil gets all the residual dirty oil mixed in. then change the oil again.. you might find a much greater track drive life span. remember the Fram Filters commercial from the 70's .. you can pay me now or you can pay me later. i would have loved to see you clean the tops of the hydraulic tank better. 98% clean is not 100% clean. its your wallet that gets excavated with failures from introduced dirt. these are SUGGESTIONS only. some people have taken offense at them previously so much so i deleted them years ago.
wayne p yeah I probably should have cleaned more of the dirt off. I did run that fluid for a bit then change it again to it all of the old out. And I got the tank clean enough to eat off of. I soaked everything in degreaser and power washed with hot water. I just didn’t film all of that figured it would be boring to watch. I’m too OCD with these machines to leave oil all over them. I appreciate the suggestions too! 👍🏻
I appreciated this video. I bought the same machine last year and had to finally tell the wife that I was not renting the machine. It had 4 hours on it when they delivered it. She asked me why they would rent such a nice clean machine. Anyway, at 100 hrs I checked the hydraulic. The oil was clean, the sight glass looked like it had no oil in it. So I added oil and overfilled the tank. Just seems the sight gage is not useful. Any thoughts on determining how to determine the true level in that tank?
auto1910 there should be a red dot in that sight glass and you need to stretch the arm out like I had it in the video and that gives you the true level. The fluid is super clear so you really have to look. Hopefully that helps. Shoot me an email if you have anymore questions at eliteearthworksllc@gmail.com.
Looking at getting a tb250. I assume the cab is the same as the 260, what is the hvac filter situation? Good heavy filter? Have a kx040 now and it has a joke of filtering for the hvac.
Good video. I’ve been running a TB153fr since 2010. We bought it new and I’ve done all of the maintenance as well. We are getting ready to trade up for a new TB260. I would love to actually talk to you about your thoughts on some the differences between the 2 machines, and what brand your hyd quick coupler is, and a few other things. I lift and spread trusses for homes a lot with our 153, the fr boom lets me pickup pretty tall trusses because I can pull the load so close to me and straight up. I’m really afraid I’m going to lose all of that because of the standard boom style. Anyway...if there was anyway to chat other than on here I’d be grateful to pick your brain a little before we get rid of our 153.
Josh Edmond I loved my 153! You can email me at eliteearthworksllc@gmail.com or if your on Instagram you can message me there. You will lose so of that going to the 260, but the 260 does have a bit longer reach. I do miss the boom function of the 153 at times though. Feel free to hit me up if you have any questions. Thanks again
No I just cut the intervals in half. 500 hours is a long time between services in my opinion. The older machines always did 250 hours so I just stick with that on all my machines
Thank you! They are great machines. My thumb is slow too, I thought you could make some adjustments to the flow on the auxiliary hydraulics but I haven’t had any luck yet
Elite Earthworks LLC ... tell you how to solve that for free... every month, Harbor Freight gives a small LED light away for free. They have magnets and hooks. So, I always clip the coupon and stick it in my wallet. Now, I have a half dozen.
It's not a fail, it's a lesson. Now write on the cover: CYLINDER RODS OUT TO REMOVE. Don't you just love these learning moments. LOL Have fun and it's only a little clean up.
If that was my equipment I would still change the oil and oil filter every 250 hours. It's not expensive to do that. I want my machine to last as long as possible. Better to be safe than sorry
Just ordered our first Takeuchi Ex, thanks for the very helpful service vid.

Hi Josh, takeuchi 257fr will be introduced in March. 2020
Wow new teeth on your bucket at 250 hours they wear quickly!
David seaquist lol yeah the rocks are terrible here. I’m hoping my H&L Teeth last longer but we will see
Greetings, I wanted to ask you what oil to use for the caterpillar rolling engines and if it is valid for my takeuchi tb 290?
Min 21:47
Miguel Rus I believe it takes 80-90w gear oil just like the 260
Just did my 50 hr on my new Yanmar
james dees nice! Pretty easy to service?
Elite Earthworks LLC
Yes very easy, I own 3 different makes a case cx47 a tbo 16 and the new Yanmar vio25 6a
james dees good deal!
@Elite Earthworks LLC My manual doesn't state an engine oil change until 500 hrs. Am I missing something?
No I just cut the intervals in half. 500 hours is a long time between services in my opinion. The older machines always did 250 hours so I just stick with that on all my machines
Guess I should have watched the video first, I saw your comment on the 500 hr oil change!
What did you spend on excavator on purchase?
michael oronia $87,000
Good deal!
I bought last year a used takeuchi tb285 for $57000
Great mini excavator
michael oronia nice they are great machines!
Are you out of Missouri my sister lives in Richmond and my brother and older sister live near Kansas City Missouri
David seaquist yes I’m in Joplin they are about 3 hours straight north of me
Good stuff man we have the same machine love it. Do you know how to make your thumb move faster ? Ours seems really slow
Thank you! They are great machines. My thumb is slow too, I thought you could make some adjustments to the flow on the auxiliary hydraulics but I haven’t had any luck yet
I clean my outer air filters every day during summer
Boitano Excavation same here on my loader, I check it on the excavator a few times a week. Really depends how dry it is
@@eliteearthworksllc Brandon try putting a 90 on the end of the air gun for blowing out the filters you will get a lot more dirt out of them.
Rick Janisse that’s a good idea! Thanks
My 289D says every 500 hours on service, but the old 242 was was every 250 hours 🤷♂️
Dirt Mover yeah my 250 says every 250 hours too. I think it’s the newer oils. That or they want you to wear them out faster 🤔🤣
😂
You live and you learn on the hydraulic filter. If it helps it didn't occur to me either. LOL
Brian Gardiner lol yeah it was on the lower side of the site glass 🤷🏼♂️. Good learning experience lol
Should I buy one or what?😁😁😁😁
Yes you should 😁
The reason why it leaked whilst changing ur main hydraulic filter is cause that you didn’t release the pressure in the hydraulic tank👍🏻
It releases the pressure when the lids off. I just had the arm up so more of the fluid was in the tank
OK.. I have to ask...why do you not have a trouble light 😂
Jane Tolch I do but it was at my house 🙄 I need one to leave at this shop
Elite Earthworks LLC ... tell you how to solve that for free... every month, Harbor Freight gives a small LED light away for free. They have magnets and hooks. So, I always clip the coupon and stick it in my wallet. Now, I have a half dozen.
William Harris that’s a great idea thanks!
It's not a fail, it's a lesson. Now write on the cover: CYLINDER RODS OUT TO REMOVE. Don't you just love these learning moments. LOL Have fun and it's only a little clean up.
Mark M lol yeah it’s definitely something I’ll remember next time 🤣
Nice excavator!
Thank you!
If that was my equipment I would still change the oil and oil filter every 250 hours. It's not expensive to do that. I want my machine to last as long as possible. Better to be safe than sorry
centsless fabrication yep that’s what I’m doing just feel better doing that than letting it go longer
cool
Joe Southern thanks man!
👍👍👍
Josh Welner thank you!
The teeth on the bucket had another 1,000 hour's before they needed to be changed LoL
centsless fabrication 🤣 I
Not sure it would have made it that long
@@eliteearthworksllc LMAO more like 1,000 seconds LoL.
And you really need a camera stand 🤔
Jane Tolch lol yeah I’m going to pick one up this weekend 😁
EPIC FAIL!!
it's happened to all of us
Like me with the bathroom door but that's a story for another day
Lee Shaver 🤣🤣 I have been there too!
i cant believe your teeth wore out that fast
casy casy yeah the rock is hard on them
Nice video
Thank you!
