  • Most thought the 2022 YZ450F would be all new, but we think the pandemic put that on pause maybe until 2023. The 2022 Yamaha YZ450F has minimal changes to it, but does get new fork/shock valving, a lightened hub, sprocket, and chain. The BluCru machine has been in the top three of many other media outlet shootouts so having a solid engine and suspension can still take you a long way with your money. However, does that mean it's the right bike for you? Watch as Keefer breaks down the positives and negatives of the 2022 YZ450F and brings in an older 50-something year old, to see if it's too much bike for a rider that is getting back into the sport after retirement.

Have an 18 ( new in early 20). New( rode xr80/xr250 in the woods pre driving age) 52 y/o vet rider last summer with 3 newly riding kids as well. Enjoy riding it and after 100 hours- starts first press of the button. Gives me more time to help my kids vs working on my bike. Rekluse auto torque drive, steg pegz, suspension for my 160#, no toil super flo and slater air box lid. I enjoy working out- light weights, mtb, rowing so have never found the bike , even in my being a newer rider to be to much. Ride 250s and 350s , I will stick with my Yamaha 450.

This is how you do a test, add a normal ability rider that doesn’t weigh sub 200. Great job

I hate hydraulic clutch myself. The cable clutch on the YZs are prefect and I have a KTM and 2020.5 Rockstar Fc450. Wish I could put a YZ cable clutch system on my Rockstar

The bikes coming out need to be "geared" towards us average rider, not every the 4 to 6 days a week rider. Overall the bike is sweet.

Any vet rider would be stoked to ride it I'm sure. If it scares them horribly, they're probably not a vet rider, they're just old.

Ppl got to quit being babies about hydraulic clutch there isn’t a huge difference in pull. Plus I like the cable you can make it where you barley pull it in. I noticed hydraulic clutch you have to pull it all the way in and you barely let it out it engages.

I bought a new 2018 yz450f a few yrs back. I have a "cookie cutter" race tech gold valve set up for a mx B rider. The best overall 450 I've ever ridden. I cant imagine a stock 2022 would be significantly better?? I've got my race tech set up dialed for me and my preference. If I'm doing suspension regardless, the 22 cant be significantly enough to want one over what I currently have and love

Terry from Christchurch New Zealand love my yz I've had 27 new so far, race a 250f and a 450f. At the moment I'm running a 22 250 but still got my 21 450. Every year it surprised me the shuttle changes but going from 18 to 19 was huge , even more ballance and nimble ya would be impressed with the chassis changes. Go demo one you will notice the improvement straight away

Great fun video. Thx Good info. I'm 225, & this bike I will use for trail riding. At 56 I'm not going to be in the air...I just want something to move my fat ass around the mountains.
