Hi guys! Don't forget to check the description for more information and useful resources. ALSO, I'm curious. Since beardies can be picky, what are your bearded dragon's favorite foods?
My rescue beardie loves strawberries and Dubia roaches, and my bearded dragon I raised HATES roaches even though he was raised on them and will only eat worms. So he gets silk worms since that’s the only worm that won’t make him obese
Bee pollen is amazing. It is basically the only way mine cares about her greens. Another tip if yours isn't eating is to check your temps with a temp gun. If it isn't hot enough or you don't have the proper 10.0 UVB lighting, they can't properly digest their food and may not eat. Mine went through this and also had parasites, but some meds from the vet fixed her up and she is doing well now. You have to get your bugs from a reliable source so they hopefully won't have parasites.
Yes! Proper temps and UVB are definitely important. I forgot to mention that, but 1000x yes! 😊 Also getting feeders from good sources is another thing I forgot to mention - of course 🤦🏽♀️. I'll put that in the description box now. Thanks! 😊
Improper UVB when they're young will lead to metabolic bone disease too which unfortunately happens to a lot of beardies because people don't know how to properly take care of them.
Scraggy is an adult, and every time I give him a salad with no bugs in it, he looks at me with a very clear "wtf is this?" look. He'll eat about half of it anyway, but this guy just hates his veggies and loves his meat

One of the biggest mistakes people make with beardies when they're young is not providing proper UVB. So many of them end up with metabolic bone disease, it's really sad.

Yeah but a water gauge always helps to see if you can have a water bowl or not. I personally like having a water bowl and I live in a super humid area, and my substrate of choice is a very good humidity holder, but through the humidity guage I've found my house is ridiculously dry(it makes my brother get nosebleeds all the time.) So even with the water bowl and humidity holding substrate, the gauge stays at 30% unless I open my window where it will skyrocket to 60-80%. Obviously some people will have significantly more wet air in their home but for me, everything works out. (Also I don't like misting my beardie and doing so would make the humidity go up since I do use the humidity holding substrate, but through weekly bathes and water droplets on his food, he stays well hydrated.)
Thank you so much. Glad I found your channel. I have had my Joke for 3 weeks now, and wasn't wondering if I was raising him right. I got my beardie when I was 10 (I’m now 14) and for the first 3yrs of his life he lived on kale and hoppers, because we got him from a chain petstore and my parents didn’t do any research (and I was *10* ) will he be okay?? He now has a super varied diet, yellow and red bell peppers, strawberries (as a treat), sometimes tomato, carrots, apples and bak Choi mixed up for his frequent meals. Always dusted with nutri-ball (a calcium balancer and vitamin boost) and sometimes calci-dust, Dubia Roches and sometimes hoppers.
Yeah I went to a petstore when I was ten and they talked me into getting a leopard gecko. He died. Because all they told me was frozen meal worms. And that is all he got. Luckily a year ago I got another gecko and he is doing great
I feed my bearded dragon seven to ten super worms every other day and a salad including a variety of vegetables everyday. About once a week, I’ll give him apples, apricots, and his favorite, blackberries. Do you think this is a good diet for my bearded dragon? I would really appreciate your advice.
Thank you so much for this video! Just got one, had gotten all the food the sales person said to get but had no idea they needed live bugs instead of dead ones. ❤❤
I worked at a pet store. Not a large chain. I perfered to feed meal worms and super worms and I recommended those to customers. Also it made feed time fun for kids since crickets are nasty and parents hate them. Lol I found the babies take to the worms and roaches. A big problem I also had was small crickets are just too small and large crickets would just get eaten halfway. I’ve also had to call a vet for an impacted dragon that had eaten a bunch of crickets. She was fine but she had a cricket puke that scarred me for life. That’s my input. Super helpful video.
We just got my kids two bearded dragons today and your list started great but went on and on and on and now I’m thinking I just should have had two more kids. Goodnight!
I live in the uk,, are collard greens the same name over here or not because I can’t seem to find them anywhere. I’ve grown dandelion greens but it’d be easier to buy stuff from shops for if I run out
You're right about conflicting information. I think that comes from the fact that beardie care constantly changes, and that all beardies are different. The biggest takeaway is that the amount of bugs goes down to about 20% as adults, with veggies/fruits taking up the rest. Some people accomplish this by just feeding a little bit of bugs daily, while others feed bigger meals less often. A lot of this is also just what your bearded dragon prefers. The biggest way to tell if whichever method you choose is correct, is just keeping an eye on their weight. If they are becoming overweight, you know they're eating too many bugs. If they're are losing weight, you know it's not enough. It definitely can be overwhelming at first, but once you get a system down, it's no problem at all. 😊
I feed my adult beardie around 8 medium Dubia roaches, if she wants that many, but up to 12 every 3 days and 4 to 6 super worms per week. I also like to give her Fluker's buffet diet as a treat every once in a while along with greens and vegetables every day. In my opinion this is a perfect diet but as always everybody has a different opinion. I agree with everything she says in this video.
I have a 3 year old bearded dragon she gets a bigsalad every after noon never tried roaches or worms she gets crickets tho once every week I just buy mine online she's not a big fan of bugs tho but she loves her salad I make sure to put purple cabbage (it's her favorite) never had a pet before her but i try my hardest I'm always looking for room to improve so this video was very helpful I really want to look into these things and see what she likes
If you put a water bowl in your enclosure make sure you know what your surrounding humidity is like. I live in south GA and it’s so humid here that if I put a water bowl in my enclosure the humidity would get way to high for my dragon so I like to spray his veggies with some water and also mist him down a bit in the morning.
I've been told by a lot of beardie keeps water dishes add to much humidity to the enclosure and it is best not to have a water dish but spray the top of their head twice a day because it'll drip down their head and that is how they get their water in the wild (from rain fall) and to bathe every 2 days.
crickets have always been a giant problem for me. they always escape, and they hide behind food and water bowls all the time. they are super annoying and die in like 2 days. thanks for the guide, really helped
We've been talking about getting a beardie and I've just been devouring your videos! Thank you so much for all the great info! I was wondering about possibly adopting a rescue (I found a few places that do this) and was wondering if you had any thoughts on this? I'm just wondering whether a beardie can bond with a new owner after having had a different one. Thanks in advance
So I just got my bearded dragon should I feed my bearded dragon vegetables and fruits in the morning and then for night time worms and things of that nature? And how often do I feed my bearded dragon?
Feed it once a day because they honestly won’t eat all of it at once 😂, you can feed them worms any time and at max a day probably 5 or 3 you can feed it in the morning is what I do so mine can eat around the day when he wants.
this guide really helped i feed my baby dragon twice a day but only like 10 small dubia roaches in all, and i make him a salad everyday with calcium power every other day. he always eats his salad and his bugs but after seeing this i will feed him more roaches i hope i haven't been under feeding him
This is an awesome video! I've been doing research on beardies for probably a good 4-5 months now and i knew most of what you put in this video but the amount of depth you went into was awesome and i took some notes down! I just came across your channel a couple days ago and subscribed while watching the first video i saw! Great job and i cant wait to see more from you! You're helping me get ready for my future baby!
Is there a certain time of the day to feed them? Like do they need two hours under the light when waking up before eating ? And do they need 2 hours to digest after eating in the evening?
If you have a good reflective bulb shade for your uvb then it should retain light for a good while during the night, mimicking the moon light so I can't imagine that being a problem. I'm no expert just been pulling in as much info myself as I can over the vast week since I had to start taking care of my lil bros dragon.
I had a very huge question if you could help me ??🙁like I have a small bearded dragon he’s about a juvenile still and idk what to feed him daily like he doesn’t like the flower type of food at the store I buy at petco and I just bought the calcium powder and Dubai roaches not to long ago about 2 days ago and I did it BECUASE a couple of my friends noticed he twitched and told me I need to give him that I just want to make him feel better and healthy am I doing SOEMTHING wrong I bath him quit often
One question, so if I live in Florida, I can’t own any Dubia Roaches in captivity, because I know part of the reason of it being illegal is that they can not survive because of the temperature, though the website lists Florida as an acceptable shipping address. Any info would help
So I just watching the video right below this one from reptile garden and they gave much different info, staples are the same for greens same with things that you shouldn't feed them but the other then that the feeding times, suppliments and bug info are totally different. This is why it's so hard to get proper info on your animals, both dragons are healthy but owners have much different ways of feeding them
Thank you! 😊 I really don’t have an exact amount. I just grab some of whatever veggies I’m giving her and fill up her bowl. Maybe start with about a cup of greens (loose, not packed) and add more or subtract depending on how much your beardie eats of it. Edited to add: for babies, I would probably start with about ¼ a cup, as they don’t generally eat a lot of veggies.
Thank you, for this information. I really don't want to care for my dragon half hazordly. I want to know how to fare for them in the best possible way that I can. I think this is one of the best dragon care videos along with a few others I watch all have the best way to care for my baby.
Hi Elle, in need of help here. My beardie is 3 years old and I got him when I was relatively young and didn’t really know how to take care of him. I now feed him a pretty good diet, he eats collard greens, dubia roaches, and crickets the majority of the time, but also enjoys rehydrated veggies as a treat. I fear i’m not feeding him enough because he stops eating after a little while (like 3 or 4 roaches and a medium size strip of collard green leaf and he’s full). How do I know if he’s a healthy weight?
I live in norway and my local petstore only sell mealworms (i think idk what type of worms) and crickets. So do the dubia dude deliver to Norway, or is it to far away?
My 4 month old dragon eats silkworms, black soldier fly larvae, dubia roaches, crickets.... 2 or 3 times a day..salad gets offered, he picks at it. daily totals equal around 90-130 bugs a day. He also nibbles on his haworthia plant. All about the live foods!!!
Very good information best video .... my 5 year old son really really wants one and I’m considering it too even I’m not looking forward to the crickets though 😱 but I’m glad there’s other options of live bugs the beardy can eat.
Curios when you say dust with calcium 5 times a week and vitamins 2 times a week... does that mean every feeding for 5 days and the other every feeding for 2 days? Or just one feeding five times and one feeding two times? Also do you dust the veggies too or just bugs. Thanks
I don’t have one yet. I am getting one in a couple of weeks. I am nervous and excited as I have never done this before. But don’t beat yourself up you now have learnt ♥️♥️
I don’t see a lot of videos about feeding for bearded dragons and this was super helpful! I’m getting a beardie soon so lots of research for me. I know this is an old video but I have a question. I know their diet should be 20% bugs and 80% greens but what should I look out of in terms of protein and fat percentages in bugs? Because I just found out about Silkworms having 50% protein and 1%-15% fat and they are great for picky eaters, plus they are cheaper than horn worms. So how many would I feed a beardie, if I should even feed them the silkworms?
I just have to ask because I know this video is years old. So studies could’ve changed but Are you still using this list for bearded dragons feeding? Because I seen it mentioned on the feeding list to feed iceberg daily and I’ve heard iceberg is bad for the bearded dragons due to being a catalyst for diarrhea ? So now I’m wondering is it bad to feed them iceberg or not?
Wanted a bearded dragon for years and I’m finally getting one! Question though, do you have a video on portions and how much calcium powder to put on a meal. Let’s say you have school, do you have to feed them in the morning or could they have the food that they had from the night before and once you’re home you give them fresh food
I would recommend feeding them in the morning. And also I don’t give mine calcium powder because I give him about 3 or 5 worms a day, if I think it’s too much I’ll lower it to 2
I’m planning on getting a bearded dragon soon but I’m still a little confused on the feeding process. When you feed your beardie the roaches or the crickets do you also put the veggies in there too? Or is that just for them to kinda graze whenever they like?
I always give them a salad first thing in the morning, so that they hopefully eat that first - so put in the tank before bugs. Then they can also graze on it throughout the day, yes. 😊
One of my beardies eats better if I give him a few super worms first and then some greens. It seems to wet his appetite. and he eats his greens more now than doing the opposite. They are all different.
What is your feeding schedule for zaz? My beardie is having a difficult time eating and I’m having a hard time trying to find a good schedule for him. Like what do you feed her each day and how do you go about doing it?
Sucks for me, Dubia roaches are illegal in Canada. How often do you suggest purchasing crickets. Thanks for the videos. My daughter and I are getting a beardie in a month.
Hi guys! Don't forget to check the description for more information and useful resources.
ALSO, I'm curious. Since beardies can be picky, what are your bearded dragon's favorite foods?
Professor was a big fan of superworms and cantaloupe
That's an awesome name! I've never tried cantaloupe with Zsasz. I'll have to try that next.
Max likes mealworms
My rescue beardie loves strawberries and Dubia roaches, and my bearded dragon I raised HATES roaches even though he was raised on them and will only eat worms. So he gets silk worms since that’s the only worm that won’t make him obese
Peas ... Sweet/ English/ sugar snaps ... The only green been able to get her to eat is napa she likes blackberries and a lil watermelon

Possibly (and hopefully), I'll be becoming a first time Beardie momma here soon. Your video was 💯 helpful!
Best beardie care video ever. And I've watched a lot.
Awww thank you so much! 😊
I got my beardie when I was 10 (I’m now 14) and for the first 3yrs of his life he lived on kale and hoppers, because we got him from a chain petstore and my parents didn’t do any research (and I was *10* )
will he be okay??
He now has a super varied diet, yellow and red bell peppers, strawberries (as a treat), sometimes tomato, carrots, apples and bak Choi mixed up for his frequent meals. Always dusted with nutri-ball (a calcium balancer and vitamin boost) and sometimes calci-dust, Dubia Roches and sometimes hoppers.
If he looks ok now, then he should be okay but you should check with a vet just in case.
Yeah I went to a petstore when I was ten and they talked me into getting a leopard gecko. He died. Because all they told me was frozen meal worms. And that is all he got.
Luckily a year ago I got another gecko and he is doing great
Tomatoes are super bad
I wouldn’t recommend carrots I heard bad things but they are good as a treat
As a new beardie owner, THANK YOU ❤️
Thank you so much for all this wonderful information! We're bringing my bonus daughter a bearded dragon home today. This will help so much!
I feed my bearded dragon seven to ten super worms every other day and a salad including a variety of vegetables everyday. About once a week, I’ll give him apples, apricots, and his favorite, blackberries. Do you think this is a good diet for my bearded dragon? I would really appreciate your advice.
Potato Chicken why only worms
roguelineage isfun they also said a salad
Salad and worms eh maybe some variety i also heard superworms are harded to digest even it they are digestable
roguelineage isfun I would like to use Dubias but my mom would never let me 😔
Same my mom barley let me get my dragon and my leo
i gots two beardies and this video was more informative than most vids ive watched and the beautiful host was a plus
Goodnight!
I usually smoke my doobie roaches lol
I was thinking the same thing every time she said doobie roaches 🤣🤣🤣
@@QueenMeATL 😂 It's actually "Dubia."
@@DubsStop we know
@@bsg-wrencha-snake2676 My point is she was saying Dubia not doobie. I get the joke.
@@DubsStop ok. Sorry
I live in the uk,, are collard greens the same name over here or not because I can’t seem to find them anywhere. I’ve grown dandelion greens but it’d be easier to buy stuff from shops for if I run out
Almost everything I've read said bugs go down to 1-2 times a week when they are adults. So much conflicting information!!
Super useful video!!
The fact that Dubia dude put a quarter in their for size comparison is good big marketing
“Often has an attitude” REX TO A T 😂🙏🏻
Is there a certain way to cook the squash and veggies listed in that list? Ty :) :)
I just boil them or steam them until they're soft 😊
@@ellesreptiles ok thanks that's what I was wondering if they just have to be soft 👍👍😊
Personally I only feed babies veggies every other day or so as they don't usually eat it. Great tip about the bee pollen. It really works
I've been told by a lot of beardie keeps water dishes add to much humidity to the enclosure and it is best not to have a water dish but spray the top of their head twice a day because it'll drip down their head and that is how they get their water in the wild (from rain fall) and to bathe every 2 days.
I’m really glade that your making beardie videos some reason everyone stop making them and all the videos you see are like a year or more older
Yea I noticed my last "care" video was over a year old, too.
Ma'am,I know this isnt really part of the video-
But how which size is that tank/cage/enclosure?
You’re so pretty ! Thank you for this video. I just rescued a stunted beardie two days ago!
Also, I live in Florida and currently breed crickets and I HATE them with a passion ... what’s a good supplement for Dubia roaches & crickets?
crickets have always been a giant problem for me. they always escape, and they hide behind food and water bowls all the time. they are super annoying and die in like 2 days. thanks for the guide, really helped
Hey I love your channel and I love that you take the best care for your reptiles cause lots of RUclipsrs don't:))
Awww thank you so much! 😊 I try my best.
@@ellesreptiles You're welcome keep up the good job😊
Hi Elle! Might be kind of off topic, but where did you get that corner hide cave in your video? I love the way it looks. Thank you.
this guide really helped i feed my baby dragon twice a day but only like 10 small dubia roaches in all, and i make him a salad everyday with calcium power every other day. he always eats his salad and his bugs but after seeing this i will feed him more roaches i hope i haven't been under feeding him
This was like the most helpful video EVER.
Thank u!
🦎🦎🦎🥰🥰
Yay! I'm glad I could help! 😁🦎
Thank you so much! I'm glad it was helpful! 😊
This was such a helpful video! But i was wondering do you feed baby dragons every single day? sorry if you already covered this in the video
Yep, everyday, 2-3 times a day
Is there a certain time of the day to feed them?
My bearded dragon does not eat veggies so I bought. Calcium powder to mix in with his meal worms
John Vargas he doesn’t eat salad or anything?
That's not how it works dude.
@@DubsStop it works for my bearded dragon 🐉
One question, so if I live in Florida, I can’t own any Dubia Roaches in captivity, because I know part of the reason of it being illegal is that they can not survive because of the temperature, though the website lists Florida as an acceptable shipping address. Any info would help
On thedubiadude.com? The website says “We cannot ship to Florida, Hawaii, or Alaska.” Sorry! 😔
Hey I wanted to know what other roaches I can feed my bearded dragon bc Dubia roaches are illegal in my state that would help a lot :)
I absolutely love your accent. It's amazing LOL
Stupid question but at 6:00 when she says to dust, do you dust the crickets/roaches or the bearded dragon?
I’m a little late but the crickets
12:22 what if u have a water cleaner like it I put it in the glass and the cup cleans the water will That work instead?
Just use tap water or spring water.
So I just watching the video right below this one from reptile garden and they gave much different info, staples are the same for greens same with things that you shouldn't feed them but the other then that the feeding times, suppliments and bug info are totally different. This is why it's so hard to get proper info on your animals, both dragons are healthy but owners have much different ways of feeding them
Hi Elle you are amazing, great guide and thank you for all the lovely vids!
how much exactly do you need to feed babies and adults in veggies
@@ellesreptiles can u feed your beardie feeder fish I've heard both sides
Love the vid, I am about to be a new bearded dragon owner and this video was very helpful
Thank you, for this information. I really don't want to care for my dragon half hazordly. I want to know how to fare for them in the best possible way that I can. I think this is one of the best dragon care videos along with a few others I watch all have the best way to care for my baby.
I just found your channel and I’m amazed 😭this video was so helpful and enjoyable to watch, definitely a new subscriber 😊
Awww thank you so much and welcome to the channel! ♥️
Up here in Canada, we can't get Dubai' roaches, because the government doesn't want them to breed I think. You guys are lucky for that!
I was so nervous about my new baby not eating veggies, thanks for helping!
Any advice on how much to feed them as in like 2 grams of veggies per its weight or something like that
I live in norway and my local petstore only sell mealworms (i think idk what type of worms) and crickets. So do the dubia dude deliver to Norway, or is it to far away?
Do you have any tips on getting your baby beardie to eat veggies… my little guy eats zero veggies even if i offer veggies to him
My 4 month old dragon eats silkworms, black soldier fly larvae, dubia roaches, crickets.... 2 or 3 times a day..salad gets offered, he picks at it. daily totals equal around 90-130 bugs a day. He also nibbles on his haworthia plant. All about the live foods!!!
6:00 for supplement use
Very good information best video .... my 5 year old son really really wants one and I’m considering it too even I’m not looking forward to the crickets though 😱 but I’m glad there’s other options of live bugs the beardy can eat.
My Beardies name is Batman so your shirt was perfect 💀💀
Curios when you say dust with calcium 5 times a week and vitamins 2 times a week... does that mean every feeding for 5 days and the other every feeding for 2 days? Or just one feeding five times and one feeding two times? Also do you dust the veggies too or just bugs. Thanks
Omg! The only greens I feed him is kale😬. After this I am taking a big turn and give him the best world I can.
And also I don’t give mine calcium powder because I give him about 3 or 5 worms a day, if I think it’s too much I’ll lower it to 2
@@gooseguts thank you
@@gothicology9819 no problem!
