  • In this first of a series of videos filmed in London UK, Tom Mackie provides a guide to urban landscape photography with a tutorial covering from capturing an image using light trails to the final processing.
    This 'over the shoulder' video joins Tom on location in London where he explains his choice of composition and the image he is trying to create using long exposure photography and light trails.
    Having captured a series of shots on location, Tom continues from his studio to show how he combines and processes the images taken to create his final image using Lightroom, Photoshop and Luminar 4.
    At the end of the video Tom shares his finished image.
    We hope you find this video useful and as ever, if you have any questions or want additional items covered in future videos, please just leave a comment below.

    Very nice work and editing, Tom! Since the PF album Animals I always wanted to Photograph this, but a lot has chanced in the place over the decades, with with the light trails you still can make a great shot which you show us here!

      Henk, they are in the process of converting the power station into flats. It's great they didn't just tear it down as it's such a iconic landmark.

    Nicely done - blue hour seems to be a subjective thing that can be developed with experience. Your video shows it to be a certain darkness, but it’s difficult to determine what that is to the naked eye. Are there any techniques or tools that you’re aware of to assist a less experienced photographer in determining the start/end of blue hour, other than trial and error. As usual, thanks for a useful video.

      There are apps such as Photo Pills that will tell you exactly when the blue hour begins and ends, which is about 30 minutes after sunset. Glad you enjoyed it.

      It's usually lots of research on the internet, using Google Earth, looking through books and travel magazines, but on this occassion a friend that lives in London took me there.

    Thanks Tom! What was your ISO ? F14 and F16 are you on bulb for the 40 sec exposure?

    • @LandscapePhotographyiQ
      @LandscapePhotographyiQ  3 года назад +1

      ISO was 100 and as there isn't a counter longer than 30 seconds on the D850, I used the bulb setting, locked the cable release and timed 40 seconds.
