pretty much help canute to grow up. ragnar was basically a helicopter father, not letting his kid do anything and doing everything for him. canute was never going to grow up and stay forever a little kid if ragnar was still alive.
I just finished watching Vinland Saga Season 1 two days ago, and one thing I would say, it was one of the best story-driven series I watched since I started watching Anime. Upon watching the series, I kind of realised that he might be one of the few politically intellectual characters in Anime (the other being Henry Stafford, commonly known as the Duke of Buckingham or the Kingmaker of King Richard III from the anime Baraou no Souretsu, or The Requiem Of The Rose King). Although, some might argue with his strategies, I think in terms of situation and timeline, it might be the best, as well as considering his harsh childhood life.
Love your reaction ! Askeladd's charisma is so powerfull even if we don't approve some of his moves but he's really strategic person. He never acts for no reason. Can't wait to see the next episode !
Askeladd was pissed because Ragnar tricked him into promising to protect the prince to then tell them that his plan of getting a reward from the king is no longer an option, hence his cruelty in the final moments

A reminder that the pillaging of the village last episode wasn't the first time Askeladd and his crew killed innocent people. They did it before and after killing Thors. And they have been doing it for years as Vikings.

Am I the only one who hated Ragnar? He's such a coddler like a white parent. Coddling your child will only make them weaker. ALWAYS. Episode 14 I had these thoughts "If this guy cries and complains 2-3 more times Askeladd is gonna kill him. Please do so, he's plain annoying and not required. He's being a crutch for anything Canute has to learn in life." And Askeladd being the man who thinks exactly like me, does it. When I was watching the first season a few months ago, every decision Askeladd took, I could predict it, because I would take the exact same decision each step. I had his vibe figured out around episode 6, and I was right every time. Truly one of my favorite characters in all of anime.
Askeladd fans need to stop. You guys are hyping this character so much that she's watching the series with a different expectations from Askeladd. Let her watch it in a normal way and let her have her own opinion about Askeladd without being influenced by others.
