  • UPDATE 7-22-2022 Passed my Level 3 Advanced Hydraulics exam! • NICET TEST PREP - I pa...
    It’s been a long time coming but I finally started towards my NICET level 3 certification. Having recently passed Level III General Plans, I am much more confident in taking on Advanced Hydraulics.
    The key to passing it is FIRETECH! I’m the first in my company to take the CBT format test and the first to take ANY NICET test in probably the last 8 years.
    Give yourself enough time to make it through the material. I would not advise waiting until 2 weeks before the test like I did. Answer every question honestly. And if you know the answer by heart, navigate thru the appropriate code to get familiar with WHERE the answer is located. The morning of my test I went thru fire tech’s simulated exams one last time so everything would be fresh.
    GOOD LUCK!

      Hi.. good day
      Can I know the Pearson VUE will allow me to bring the hard copy of unofficial codes pdf file like NFPA 13, NFPA 14 etc., if i print out and bind it locally?

    • @PromisKeeper
      @PromisKeeper  Год назад

      My copies of code have always been in 3 ring binders. My office still has a complete set of original NFPA codes we make copies of specifically to take with us to the NICET exam. Another designer recently came to me to make use of them for his own test because all of the digital access versions are watermarked.

    Thanks for the tips! Been in the fire sprinkler industry my entire life. Designing for 25 years. Management of 4 crews (8-10 guys) and do design. Sub design out sometimes to keep up now days since I am the only designer now. Been designing on SprinkCAD 3D for a dozen years. Currently switching to their SprinkCAD Classic (2D). Little learning curve. Had a NICET on staff so never really needed it but she has taken a new position as plans examiner with the local AHJ. Now I really need to get the NICET certs going. Passed the level 1 test 15 years ago first try but let it expire and never followed up. Jumping head first into the Level 1 test next week. Hoping to pass it without much prep. Level II, I got Firetechs course along with the tabbed books. Fingers crossed! Thanks again.

    First things first. Glad to see a fellow believer on youtube. Second, man am I struggling with level 3.
    I get the info, but as soon as I get to the optimizing portion, my brain just blanks. I understand a good portion could be the fact that I'm just jumping straight from RME-I to level 3 layout. I've looked for resources outside of Firetech to no avail. I did see they have the instructor led 5 hour blocks I could get, but that is limited to level 2 and its another $500. I may be forced to do that just to be able to discuss this with someone. Your video is helpful, and does make me think I'm probably just psyching myself out.

    • @PromisKeeper
      @PromisKeeper  2 года назад

      I’m not sure what you’re referring to as the optimizing portion. I have another video I would like to put together on “Phantom Flow” - NFPA 13 27.2.4.2.5 … It was added in 2013 but apparently most designers and plan reviewers miss the requirements for that one.

      There seems to be an exception for fire protection. I’m currently working on a 6 story secure office addition at Wright Patterson AFB. Coordination has been going on since March. We are the only contractor that doesn’t use Revit or Navis. It’s even written in the spec that we are to provide DWG drawings. For us as a company it just isn’t necessary or worth the cost to use 3D.

      From a professional perspective, you need to know the content of the book to do the job correctly. To confidently pass the test, you need to take the study course. It will help you get familiarized with where to find the answers to the questions we may not run into everyday at work. The designer under me was surprised at how much of the test was not what he expected but Firetech gave him a leg up.

      No I never took the practice tests. I’m sure it will help you decide if you should use something like Firetech to prepare further. I will be taking the fire tech online course for level 3 before taking the test, just curious?

    • @PromisKeeper
      @PromisKeeper  Год назад +1

      I’m not familiar with the specifics of RME. Not something we have here in Ohio as far as I know. Having the NICET 3 certification will allow me to sign permit drawings in most states without taking a state specific test. Just have to apply, pay the fee and show proof of the level 3 certificate. Someone before has asked a similar question, you can’t apply to take a nicet unless you meet their minimum requirements. Actively employed full time as a designer. Someone else certified would have to verify you have worked as a designer for the required number of years. I don’t want to pretend to know all the ins and outs, but NICET isn’t something anyone can just go online and set up a test.

    • @PromisKeeper
      @PromisKeeper  Год назад +1

      The other part of your question… I started this under the work element format. I had to take level 1, then 2 and now 3 years later… The website makes it seem like that’s not necessary anymore 🤷🏼‍♂️. Like you could become a level 3 as long as you can be verified and meet the 5 years required working in design.

      I have no experience with other testing vs NICET. The test unfortunately really is not something you can count on passing based on job experience. Rather than chance wasting the money taking the test for the first time and failing, I’d put that test money toward a study guide. The lessons in the first level study material will prepare you for the material in level 2, which then help prepare you for some of the material in level 3. I spoke with a designer just this week who tried to take his level 1 without test prep and he came close but failed twice. There is also a lot of value in the knowledge you gain from the study content that goes beyond just passing the test.

      I know nothing about fire alarm specifically… had to Google your question. Every state can be different but if you pass a nicet exam it’s a Nationally recognized certification that many states will accept as proof your qualified to work in that field. In Ohio, you can take a state fire sprinkler exam and it’s only good in Ohio. But if I pass the level 3 fire sprinkler nicet exam I do not have to take the state of Ohio exam. Wouldn't be RUclips without someone giving me a hard time. lol We joke about that all the time. Yeah, we are certified design techs. We work in the "engineering" dept. One thing we've learned... ENGINEERS keep us in business because too few seem to know what they are doing. You ever worked on a job engineered by HEAPY? lol

      @@PromisKeeper Bruh, I feel ya. I'm old Grinnell guy in SC. They make us take our shop drawings, have them stamped by Level III, Then sent off to P.E for another review and Spec sheet. Then off to State FM for approval. Good info on the Nicett review
