FDNY does not require fire alarm technicians to be NICET 2 , rather they require techs to hold the S98 Certificate of Fitness. If you are already NICET 2 or higher I believe you can just apply for and obtain the S98 COF otherwise you have to specifically test for it.

The application, I think will end up being under government control and they will used to prevent people from certain jobs due to policy compliance, even outside of technical stuff, eventually. At least we all passed test, just in case and have those percentages, maybe we will be safe with all this and can put on our Resume.

I get needing people to do things right but think every bit of certification keeps those whom can't get certain jobs out, especially if they can't afford to get training and certifications without a company. UL and state licenses are the worst. I grew up a poor kid in Sacramento, CA, had no idea of these type of things and jobs. I got into Electrical by joining the Navy. If I wanted to start a business and self teach, policies that require this put undue burdens on small business. Minnesota requires a license for low voltage unlicensed electricians. I am glad their are standards but creating these policies makes it hard to self teach, and wasting time in a classroom. Or it forces into Unions in some states. Also it creates a false perspective that undercuts the small business owner that may know most of the standards but not the test questions to pass a test for a certification, and forces him to pay to earn or get smaller contracts only.
When I first moved to Wisconsin, the state had forced Unions for a lot of industry, I had military training in a cross section, and experience in low voltage electrical, with minor in electronics and electrical. I could not get a job without joining union and there was nothing available when I moved here, unless I knew someone. I did know people but not in the Union. What if I could start a business and learn as I go, that would be frowned on by most because of the policy. Glad that has changed, but these certifications are often the same way. I do like that overall Nicet training is often free with a company and kind of basic with the hands on. Open book helps.

The presentation was informative but the repetitive and borderline ignorant questions were very distracting from the overall presentation.
