Zain adapting to the laser the very next game and immediately nailing the blind power shield is just a level of awareness and skill that I can't even comprehend
A mischievous trick when using G&W in port one, and assuming your opponent chooses a port that puts them on top plat, you can up b instantly and hit them before GO is off screen.
Your music is fitting but IMO you're playing it too loud, probably because of the understandable bias of wanting it to be heard, but it sits louder in the mix than it should
I love more discussion on port differences in Melee! Everyone talks about the throw hitstun and ledge/grab frame tie things, but this difference rarely comes up. What's even rarer is people talking about how on Battlefield and FD specifically, the RESPAWN positions depend on port, too. On every other stage you always respawn in center, but on those two, P1 and P4 respawn more centrally whereas P2 respawns in the left corner and P3 in the right corner. As someone who always goes to ledge during my opponent's respawn invincibility, I love when they are on P2 or P3 because I can make sure to get on the opposite side ledge and they have to waste half their invincibility just crossing the stage!
I don't know why the algorithm keeps recommending me Nintendo game esport related stuff, but I just find it fascinating how Nintendo keeps making games that are deliberately unbalanced to prioritize a fun party-game atmosphere only to have them become massive esports that Nintendo actively tries to squash every chance they get, to no avail. It's something many companies try desperately to achieve and fail, yet Nintendo is trying to fight off the esport people with a stick and their games are still being made into hyper-competitive tournaments despite their best efforts. I can't help but find that irony hilarious.
The one change post-Melee that all players can agree was a strict improvement: Round start was standardized to actionable at the same time at the same neutral state.
pretty sure 64 is also consistent on this. I guess it's just an oversight from melee due to rushed developpment, the lack of characters specific which leads to shorter very fast start up of games.

Yeah all I'm getting out of this video is that two people exist in this world: Those who appreciate and enjoy the science and intricacies of Smash tournaments, particularly Melee, and those who think these levels of technique are sour wads of shit. Me? I fuck with both sides of that coin.
Music is really good, quite groovy. But I felt the balancing was a little off. Sometimes too loud and overpowering or muddying the voice over, like during the port priority mechanics. Also the music is really fitting for the ending montage but again, it completely mutes the commentary, which I think would really add to the intensity for the end. I also feel like the difference in volume from the montage to outro is a little jarring.
I don't know how good it actually is but I've had pretty good results from starting with FF through the platform and then wavelanding forward. Few people are ready for Marth to just burst forward at the start of the match.
"Melee isnt fair" i dont think most competitive smash gamers truly care about fair. Yeah there are things that arent fair like netcode but yeah you get my point lol.
As someone that's new to creating videos on YT, I'm absolutely in love with the editing / style / visuals in this video. ❤ (Also, well done @MeleeMoments on the musical tracks ... they are fire.) 🎵🔥
Huge fan of this style of content. The self composed bg music is so sick, but I can't help but feel like your voiceover is also fighting over the same frequency range. Fading in a version without an instrument dominating in the 1kHz area (high arpeggiators and piano) while you're talking would be sick, maybe even just a low-pass filter to give yourself some more room. Cheers.
this is really well made, its like the same a s asumsaus, i love this style of video so much and just how much effort goes into it. also I really like the music you made for it, would it be ok to use it in any videos i might never make? with a plug in the description? its super chill and fits as the perfect background music
okay the video is great but how did you get the PS screen removed? It's genuinely distracting for my adhd if theres a gecko code or texture pack for it that would be greatly appreciated
The funny thing about this to me is that this is specifically a Melee issue because it's the only game in the entire series that doesn't have proper intro animations and doesn't have an actual 3 second countdown to make sure everyone is on the same page.
The year is 20XX. Everyone plays Fox at TAS levels of perfection. Because of this, the winner of a match depends solely on port priority. The Rock Paper Scissors metagame has evolved to ridiculous levels due to it being the only remaining factor to decide matches. Humanity has reached its pinnacle. The low tier peasants are living in poverty. It seems nothing can stop the great leader of 20XX, Aziz “Hax” Al-Yami, and his army, the Fox monks who live in great monasteries where they levitate while TASing Fox with one hand, and winning tournaments with the other. The tournament metagame has gotten to this point where everything is played out to theoretical perfection, so tournament goers play Rock Paper Scissors for port priority, and that’s the game.
I feel an intense need to support your music career. It might not be that deep to anyone else, but it evoked a lot of nostalgia for me. It feels like the warmth from every PBS kids commercial I saw growing up, kids outside in the big city going on adventures and learning. It reminded me of sitting down and watching Pure Pwnage episodes, imagining Jeremy and Doug in a montage of them sweeping through the bracket at a gaming tournament (Priority matched this daydream of mine so well). There's a long list of things, different core memories your songs trigger for me, and I'd love to buy your work if possible. Even if I can't own your work and support you that way, I need you to understand just how beautiful and necessary your musical sound is. Please, don't give up on this talent. I'm sure you find a lot of success making videos, but I'm honestly praying you never give up on your music. I'm basically begging, and I know I'm not you and that you have your own life filled with different responsibilities, but I'm basically gonna be going through withdrawals until you release another song lol.
Man. I was just reminded how 64 had special animations for each character at the start of the round. I wish they brought that back as well as the animations in the character select screen
Actually, every single Smash bros games has the unique battle intros except for Melee. Definitely brings some good extra personality to the characters! But the animated select screen is exclusive to 64
Interesting stuff, because it's definitely more visually pleasing and less awkward-looking to stagger the spawns, the same way hitscan shooters staggered bullet splash. I admire you scoring your own videos, btw.
It's almost as if the Smash games were never meant to be played "seriously" or competitively. In no other actual fighting game do they have player-made rules that forbid more than half the games' content from being in the match. I always thought the smash "competitive" scene was a joke and I always will.
I vote spawns should be offstage, under the stage. That way if both players are panicking from round start it's fair for everybody. This is a joke unless???
