Timothy Brown also was in both the movie and tv show. He played Spearchucker Jones, a surgeon on the show, and vanished after 6 episodes. No reason was given. In the movie, he played Corporal Judson.

No, MASH producers found out that there had been no black surgeons serving at MASH units in the Korean Conflict.
      So, he was written out.
They thought at the time that this was a fact, as it would have taken 'a lot" of research time back in 1972.
The Korean War by the late 1960s and early 1980s, was largely forgotten by then.
Since then, it has long been proven that there were in fact a few African American doctors that did serve.

It's fascinating to see how the departures of key actors from MASH didn't hinder the show's success but rather contributed to its evolution.

I could not believe that MASH would be canceled after the first season as It was one of my favorite shows. It was rescheduled to Saturday and that made to it long run. I was disappoined however, when Stevenson, Rogers and especially Linviille left the show.

I loved watching M*A*S*H* from the get-go as Col. Potter would say. I watched every episode. I was struck hard when Col. Blake left & I remember like it was yesterday when Radar walked into the OR to tell everyone that Col. Blake's plane was shot down & there were no survivors. I cried like a baby, watching Margaret's face, tears and silence & more tears. It was the most heartfelt moment I ever experienced. A beloved character is gone. Then Trapper...he just left, it was so confusing & to see how heartbroken Hawkeye was that he didn’t get to say goodbye & no note, nothing & Trap & him were bestfriend, as thick as thieves. I had to laugh when Frank lost it when Margaret married Donald, he really lost his mind, not laughing at that, but how they handled the situation was funny & they brought Sidney on board to talk him down. Next, I didn’t expect it, nor did I see it coming, but Radar was called to go home to manage the farm because of a death in the family. He didn’t want to go, he tried everything to stay & Col. Potter talked to him, making him see he had to go home. They're all set to give him a big send-off when choppers arrive & everyone ran to the OR. So Radar stood alone in the mess tent at his send-off. He went & did a quick walk through the OR to say bye, but everyone was so busy. My heart broke as he got in the jeep to leave and drove away. I missed Radar. Max Klinger did a great job, but he was no Radar. The end of the show gutted me to this day as I watched Col. Potter ride off on sophie as he gives her to the orphanage, Charles rides off in a garbage truck & Klinger stays in Korea after trying to get a section 8 after all those years, just to stay behind with his wife. Hawkeye gave hot lips a kiss she'll never forget! Hawkeye thought BJ left without saying anything, so he heads to the chopper. He got a message from BJ who rode up on his motorcycle as he was about to take off, telling him, "we'll see each other again!" BJ rides off on his motorcycle, but not before he points to Hawkeye to look on the ground. As BJ zoomed down the hill on his motorcycle like a crazy man, the chopper lifts & Hawkeye looks down to read in big rocks below the word "GOODBYE"..BJ smile's at him & drives off on his motorcycle. Hawkeye smiles! The camp had been dismantled, and The 4077th M*A*S*H has signed off....Thank you for being an amazing part of my youth/teen years ❤ everyone of you!

Oh here we go again 🙄...
people who say they love MASH but can't be grown up enough to accept the show changed after Henry Blake died.
Yeah, because that's what they were going for.
McLean Stevenson was on the set when they filmed Radar announcing Blake's plane crash.
He left the show and then out of nowhere Wayne Rogers decided to leave.
The show could mo longer be the way it was after a main character is killed off and another actor leaves.
What were they supposed to.do? Cancel.the show ??
The show became a full comedy drama that took the war seriously like it should.
Ì love the eatly episodes too but come on!
How much longer could Haek and Trap outsmart Burns and Houlihan?
Even Loretta Swit knew that it was time to break up the adulterous relationship of those two.
Larry Linville simply left at yhe end of his 5 year contract because there was nothing more hits character could do.
The show changed for the better and that change is the main reason it's a classic today.
People that complain about that change are whiners who want the show 'their' way.
      Well tough.
Sorry that a show set in a war isn't a 100% constant giggle fest for you. 🙄
      Get over it.

When you see Larry Linville next to "they hated me" ...
He's talking about the way some people REALLY thought he was (in real life) as terrible as Major Frank Burns.
He'd have people acostvhim on the street, saying they hated him.
They meant Major Burns but some people have issues separating fiction from reality.
