If anyone is wondering why this is not blowing up its because Ski slopes and other businesses like them have very strict insurance rules so these “bikes” are not covered under their policies making them not allowed at ski resorts
@@RussellD11 to be fair, thats exactly what they said about snowboarding. eventually though, the market changes and so does the rules to allow those changes. It would be rather easy to set up a "lane" for these bikes if the market was there for it.
Yeah that was actually an amazing point. I know we like to make fun of barbara a lot and its mostly deserved lol but she does sometimes have really good sense.
About 20ish years ago, I was sledding on a popular hill. Some guy flies past me on one of these but he made it himself. I thought it was the coolest thing ever! It went really fast but also didn't have much in the way of brakes... Haha!
That was my biggest complaint learning snowboards. Sure there's ways to brake but when I'm learning any my brain's a mess trying to figure out everything just a STOP button would have been amazing.
There is a BIG issue when you come up with something that needs NO prior lessons to learn it. Mainly you get dangerous people on mountains who are out of control most of the time.
and mountains already have enough idiots on them with skis and snowboards we don't need someone riding this thing down and then worst comes to worst they hit someone and outright kill them
@@haralds4145 Its actually relatively safe compared to skiing or snowboarding for the driver, but I have concerns about skiers and these bikers being on the same slopes. Now that sounds like a bad idea
They get banned when someone runs into a skier and breaks one of their bones. Clumsy on a chair lift and possible to drop on someone. Imagine a bunch of these at the lodge. Cool, but dangerous to others.
Yes, with dedicated chair-racks or hooks replacing every 3rd or 4th chair. Carrying capacity in the summer is 1/4 what it is in the winter. This lift equipment change only works with the smaller summer crowds.
I have to agree with everyone else: if a skier or snowboarder collides with another person, most of the impact is jelly-to-jelly, body-on-body impact. If you hit someone with this bike, the point of impact is a tiny area of tube framing, which could easily snap their bones/spine. It's a bit iffy
I'm an avid mountain biker and I wouldn't buy this because one it is way too expensive and to the smart way to do it is just to adapt the skis to your current bike so you don't have to spend that amount of money again
I immediately thought that it should be a kit also but I'm sure a mountain bike weighs more unless you're already spending a lot of money on a mountain bike. A cheap mountain bike would be difficult to carry on a chair lift with the added weight of the skis
I don't like trying to remember jumbled letters. Just use a name with vowels! I don't think the logo is that bad, but trying to remember a name that makes me think of Ted Nugent can be a brain fog, lol
It's two Gs. The logo is stupid regardless of the name. The G doesn't have any association with bikes or skiing in general, it's literally just the middle letter in a word that also doesn't have any direct connection to the sport. If Gogurt had a GG logo, that would make sense with the product while this has to be explained rather stupidly.
With Shaun white backing it, this product will blow up. I have worked in the hospitality industry in ski resorts, and regulation on these things is easily manageable. Good luck to them!
This is nothing new. I mean i remember seeing some concept of this in the late 90s, but ever since then. Many tried, and most failed to make this commerical.
I've never heard of a ski bike until I saw this video. Mark pointed them in the right direction: they should be working with the other ski bike manufacturers to deal with the challenges in the marketplace: collision risk, insurance, resistance from resorts, lack of portability.
I'm trying to imagine climbing up the hills porting these things and that's a huge nope. Not just that, I don't see it being that much better/different than skiing, snowboarding and wouldn't buy one where I have multiple bikes for various purposes.
I think you can stop ok if you have enough room to make big turns. Otherwise, you're hitting something or falling over. Imagine hundreds of these on a mountain and how bad it would hurt to crash.... no way this becomes successful. Too dangerous, and it takes away too much lift revenue and space.
Watch the Beatles movie HELP (1965), specifically the "Ticket to Ride" sequence, and you'll see the Beatles riding something similar on the slopes of the Alps.
Thing is too if someone is on skis or a snowboard and messes up and hits you, unless they’re flying which they’re usually not because they tried slowing down to avoid you, you’re pretty much fine because the equipment didn’t touch you so you just kinda fall over. THIS thing hitting you seems like it would hurt so bad 😂
What Barbara said regarding it taking away revenue, is completely false. The ski bikes aren't there to replace ski'ers and snowboarders. People do not pay each time they take the gondola. There will always be people purchasing lift tickets, and if ski bikes are allowed, that more people purchasing their tickets.
They should have a kids version since it will be cheaper and more popular since it is easier to learn/control. They should have also pitched it for the disabled who cannot ski but can sit. And other markets.
If he can blow it up, it's worth it, but that was a big chunk of the business. Greed can sometimes blind you and not settle, but that deal could have been the Achilles tendon

Honestly looks like a cool concept. Will say, they’re not bad in terms of price range, less than some higher end skis. One thing I have a concern with, the ski bases aren’t detachable, how are you suppposed to repair/ replace them? Get a whole new bike? If the bases go on those, you’re kinda screwed.
