Because our lovely RDJ is starting to get a little too rich for the studio's blood. Meaning if they can't afford the salary he expects, they won't be able to get him.
You know what the best part of the beginning was? After the 30 year jump to the present time, it starts out dark and grim with the dramatic music. But then Peter steps into the cave playing, "come and get your love" dancing with the title screen, I felt like it was a great stab at all movies that start, or have that setting of dark and grim; and you know what? It was hilarious and glorious to watch that intro.

The prison they put Rocket in was a High level Prison, movie had a card pop up when we were first introduced to it and the way Rocket was talking it sounded as if he knew the Prison was tougher than those he had been put into yet was not afraid of the challenge. That and we don't know the level of security he had on him while he was in other prisons

We need just a movie with Star Lord and Iron man just going to different bars and Tony showing off modern day technology whilst picking up women. I'd pay so much for that.
***** also I will admit my wording wasn't the best. I'm just saying even though this specific movie has its flaws they can be overlooked. Movies like the 2014 TmNT and transformers are absolutely horrible abominations.

I agree witb Rob about Ronan. He's a classic villain played straight in a ridiculous and insane universe, I agree his first scenes are a bit boring but you need tha to establish his personality and have a payoff when he is put in contrast to these silly people and setups.
I believe that they are doing the whole Infinity Gauntlet thing in Avengers 3, and that's where the Guardians are going to play in, somehow. Though with the profit they've made so far, I wouldn't wonder if there was a Guardians 2 before that.
Rob's smile at the end just cracks me up for some reason. I'm on my phone watching this video and it doesn't go to all the video you can watch, it just stays on the last second and the smile looks really silly.
I never watched the movie tbh..... until last week. I am officially obsessed. There are so many little things scattered throughout the film that every time I watch it, I see something new. I've watched it over 30 times in a week and I am losing my mind waiting for the next movie!!!
Avengers EMH, Spectacular Spiderman, and yes super hero squad helped me out with recognizing a lot of these characters in the Avengers movie, Guardians of the Galaxy, and many others before they even came out. I knew half of the Guardians thanks to EMH, I recognized Ronan thanks to Super Hero Squad, hell if it weren't for Super Hero Squad I would have no idea what the infinity stones are and that show as stupid of a show that was it got me into Marvel as a Kid and helped me out with the characters I love that show.
Is it just me, or does Doug and Rob have trouble understanding even the slightest bit of complex plotting? Because they talk as if this movie is an incoherent mess, but I followed the story completely fine.
Jones6192 Ikr? The previous movies already introduced us with the concept of infinity stones and their history. If they had no problem with Thor: The Dark World, I don't see how is this more complicated...
Jones6192 I think they just stopped trying. If you go into the movie and actually try to get the plot it's not that hard. However, they both went knowing it'd be stupid. They're not gonna waste they're time trying to understand the slightly complex plot to a movie that is just as enjoyable without it.
+Jones6192 Actually, I think they are more like super-hero films are dumb entertainment. It's strange because, for me, what makes Marvel movies so much better than DC's (including the Batman films) is precisely the humor. It would be terrible if these movies were dark and gritty like Batman or Man of Steel, because I for one cannot take them seriously. GotG is the best Marvel movie for me so far, precisely because it's so funny and has so many comical moments. Even te Collector not being the superpowered godlite entity he is in the comics was an improvement for me (and Howard in his collection? That was to die for!) As for the plot, it really looks like they didn't even try to understand it.
+Jones6192 Well, everybody acted the same way about Loki's plan in The Avengers.. I was honestly amazed that no one seemed to get Loki's motivation.. If you just paid attention & thought for a second you would see what's going on. I feel like people don't know how to react to things when they're not spoon fed.. They're like "duhh I have to use my brain? deerr"
The avengers has no rewatchability for me, I remember all of the events and while it's still human it didn't hit on so many different emotional levels. I've watched this six times I believe.
+Dimitris Phoenix I fail to see how your desire to attract the attention of those objectively immature with a subjective and trivial matter is healthy. I suggest you build shelters for the homeless.
WOW, did they really just say this was more stupid than a Michael Bay movie? What is even the hell? Honestly, why did they have to call the movie stupid so much? Ridiculousness is a big part of what makes the film good, but they sounded like they were complaining about it.
Rob has no idea that Avengers 3 is basically going to be Infinity Gauntlet does he? :) (not confirmed but they're not exactly hiding it, especially after the monologue about the stones)
it dawned on me that when you came to the conclusion that this movie was "Gloriously dumb" the reason why Marvel movies are turning out much better than DC movies is because it KNOWS their movies are dumb, but has a ton of fun with them.
My little sister who is 6 wanted to see this movie SO bad! I saw 3 times already. Then my little sister kept saying she wanted to see it. We went to see it, she loved it! She doesn't watch super hero movies or anything but this movie isn't a super hero movie, it's more than that. The Guardians aren't really hero's, they're just fun characters. That's what she loved. Her fav was Groot, and the WE ARE GROOT part made her cry a little. Most super hero movies can't make you cry these days. Sure Gwen's death was sad, my older sister cried at that part, but it wasn't as emotional as it was with Groot. AND HE DIDN'T EVEN DIE!!!! That is something hard to pull off.
Rob's........pauses........ are so...................fucking.................................................................................LONG But his explanation of why he enjoyed the movie because of him being taken back to his childhood was perfect
The space physics are bogus, Ronan is a ridiculously poorly written villain, and the plot is almost identical to that of "Thor: The Dark World." But I came for the Guardians, and by all that is holy, I was not disappointed. My love for those five a-holes outweighs my disappointment with the weaknesses of the story, and that will never be changed!!!!
To be fair, you don't go into a film like GotG for the story, same as with Avengers. You go for the characters and in both those films, Marvel DELIVERED. You hit the nail on the head, the story in both GotG and Avengers is relatively workaday, borderline unimpressive, but the character interactions make up for that and overcome the weaknesses of the story.
Benjamin Del Rosario absolutly true, captain america the winter soldier is the marvel movie that I think of if I think of a interesting and compelling story :D people saying that the avengers story is bad and therefore the movie is bad, clearly where expecting it to be like the dark knight ( I think).
LadyBravefalcon ronan a poorly written villain? not every villain needs to be phisocologically tortured, you know? ronan was never an likable villain in the comics, ronan is an extremist who believe the kree are superior to any race on the galaxy
I just loved that movie I said it a million times. I glad they agreed Drax was AWESOME unlike what a lot of people thought. I think this movie just beats the shit out of the Avengers like for reals.
Rob always gives backhanded compliments lol. I feel like he complained about more than what needed to be complained about. "Story? What story? Plot? What plot?" Then he took it back saying I don't care. I loved this movie.
One of the best movies I've seen and best comic book based movie. Thanos first appearance alone was so epic. I watched that scene literally about 20 times. Really enjoyable film.
I thought it was really good. And I agree with Rob I did want to go to see it because of Groot and the raccoon. Btw, does anyone think Groot was a lot like the iron giant. I know they are voiced by the same dude. But man, Groot was amazing ::3
Guardians of the Galaxy was not only the first film I watched in a theater after over 3 years, but also the first film that made me return to watch it again.
It's amazing how much pure, undiluted fun this movie gave me. When I was watching it, it was after several hours of in-cinema Phase Two Marathon and it woke me up from a kind of drowsy state of being you get after going thrtieth hour with no sleep. I love it. Is it silly? Sure. Is it smart? No, but it's clever and witty. The action is awesome (although Gamora and Drax got their asses kicked too often for all the few of their combats). It's just fun. If you go in looking for that, it's 10\10. If you try and search for anything of substance, it's not a movie for you. Go watch a Nolan flick or some other stick in the mud movie.
you have a movie about a talking raccoon, a tree that says "i am groot", a 70s pop music soundtrack in a sci fi space theme, and you remade howard the duck for a few seconds. this movie is awesome.
Someone likes Ronan! I wasn't crazy about him, though I love Lee Pace, and most of the reviewers I've watched really don't like Ronan AT ALL. But, I'm going to watch it again, and try to see him as silly, and see if that works for me.
The special effects were good, the jokes were funny, the "oldies" inspired sound track was awesome, and the cast were all basically great for their roles. I laughed out loud through pretty much the whole movie, as did everyone else in the theater where I saw it.My only real complaint was with some of the writing. They were so busy making jokes while breezing over important plot elements in some scenes that I had a hard time following what was going on.
From watching the very first second of this movie I already had the biggest smile on my face (even though the intro was pretty sad) just from realising that this was going to be even better than what I was expecting (which was a lot). It's moving to see a blockbuster so shameless and with so much heart, originality and creativity. It reminded me of 80's and early to mid 90's movies, where they're genuine, fun, funny and emotional (because they do a great job at making the characters sympathetic and attach them to the audience). While I realise that the other Marvel films are very good, none of them so far have captured me like Guardians. Not even Cap 2. You know when a movie just sticks with you after you watch it and then you have to go find everything related to it on the internet and you can't wait to go watch it again as soon as possible? Yeah, that feeling.
I think what he means is that he's more of a casual reader than an actual constant reader. He knows a lot of the bigger stories and characters but he doesnt know as much as someone who reads almost every comic he/she can find.
bigfatcarp93 He literally says that as far as the Marvel galaxy went, he read the Infinity War and that's it. He didn't read the Guardians of the Galaxy, and didn't delve deeply into the Fantastic Four, and in the Thor 2 review he says he never really read much Thor either. In fact in the Spiderman2 review he comes across as a Spiderman/X-men marvel fan.
I can't decide whether or not I like this movie more than Avengers. I really loved The Avengers, but god, this movie was so much fun, for pretty much all the reasons Rob said. I felt like a little kid again. But then, The Avengers made me feel the same way. I don't know. All I know is that I loved it and want to see it again. And Groot was the one who stole the show for me. I cried over a cgi tree...how does that even happen???
I agree Rob's 10 year old Ghost Busters assessment wholeheartedly, and it is exactly how I felt after watching this film. This is the kind of film that sucks out your cynicism, turns you into a kid and let's you get lost in another world again. I don't know about Star Wars, but "the modern day Ghost Busters"sounds about right.
I would say that Guardians was better than Avengers. I say this only because I enjoyed both movies immensely the first time watching it. However, Avenger didn't hold up to me the second time. Guardians was just as good the second as the first. I can't sit through Avenger's again, but I can't wait to own Guardians on Blueray.
lmao @ Doug's face noticing the huge drawing I know what it's like, man. "Where the hell did that come from?" "It's been there literally since the day we moved in." ". . . really."
The pacing I think is to keep down the movie time. It's nearly a two hour movie which is nice change as it seems like a lot of movies are 90 minutes to accommodate the "short attention spans" of people. Which for several movies is just sad because they feel to short and could of improved by expanding on some story elements. You guys aren't the first online critics that I've heard say they got lost watching the movie. I've never read the comics and hadn't even heard of them until the movie was announced. I went in knowing pretty much nothing about the series or characters other than Starlord was someone who left earth as a kid, Gemora was Thanos's Daughter which didn't mean much cause I barely know who he was other than some ultimate villain of the avengers which I first heard about because of the talk from the end credits scene he shows up in. And the other three only knew about their profiles from the trailer. Yet I didn't have any trouble following what was going on throughout the whole film. The movie is pretty jam packed because I think in part in needs to be. It has to introduce a ton of new characters and their motivations. It's not like the typical superhero origin movies where you can focus on just one character and their story to become a hero while showing the occasional cut of the villain as a growing threat. One thing I notice about a lot of critics is they make generalizations like pacing was to fast, things were to confusing, or etc. But I'd like to actually hear how they would change it. It's easy to criticize saying something is bad but if you can't give critical feedback other than it needs to be better I don't give it much credit and consider it nothing more than a baseless opinion founded on personal preferences rather than an actual flaw. Where as some critics that I do really like dissect a film/show pointing out logical errors, plot holes, forced dialogue, characters acting out of character, and etc. which is quite refreshing and nice because it actual shows what's wrong instead of saying "Oh it was nonsensical/confusing" or "The story was crap" that seems a lot of critics do. I know it was ultimately a positive review but other than pacing and Ronin seeming cheese it didn't seem clear what you didn't like about.
It gets kinda annoying how Rob can't keep his mouth shut to let Doug finish a sentence and whenever he tries to say something, Rob just keeps on talking.
Thanks to this movie, Rocket Raccoon has become one of my new favorite characters...of all time! I will definitely go see it again this weekend...screw Bay Turtles
.i thought this movie was so much better than Avengers for one big reason. The point of The Avengers was only to get every hero in one room. Then get all the heroes into one fight. The feel of Guardians of the Galaxy was kind of like.....FUCK IT.....let's make a comic book movie. No Dark Knight seriousness because for Christ's sake these people wear fucking spandex and shoot colorful beams of light at each other. And they played that to their advantage.
As I said when I walked out of the theater the first time: When one of the most emotional moments in film for an entire year is a professional wrestler in full body makeup petting a cgi talking raccoon, you know something has gone horribly right.
I have seen The Avengers in theaters 6 times, once on my own, and 5 times I was invited to see it. It is the only movie I have seen that many times in theaters, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith in second place. Saw that one 3 times.
This movie was self aware that it was a comedy action, and it didn't take itself too seriously. Unlike a Michael Bay film, it's stupid while trying to take itself seriously
Okay, one correction: Ronin didn't want to control the world. He was getting ready to commit genocide on Xandar. Every man woman and child, they were all dead.
+Sean “DragonStryk72” McTiernan Problem is that seem to have not even tried to follow the story, which is wierd, it's to simple and obvious... I mean, seriously?!? written by David Lynch? And yes, the movie asumes you know the Marvel cosmic universe pretty well, but it still has a ridiculously easy to follow story.
"I need that guy's leg"
"I can't believe you actually got his leg!"
One more thing i need, that guys eye. No seriously i need it come on

take this in mind. the director of this film directed scooby doo. so this is a major step foward
Ironman meeting Rocket-Raccoon would be the greatest thing ever.
It's a thing. Check the comics.
What GreenleafForever said. Tony Stark is one of the Guardians. With any luck, RDJ will come back for the sequel.
Not only that, their united tech boner and ego would make for the best interactions.
BDWJ1986 Well if it's in the comics and ironman is a huge Marvel movies character why wouldn't he?
Because our lovely RDJ is starting to get a little too rich for the studio's blood. Meaning if they can't afford the salary he expects, they won't be able to get him.

Kinda made me question whether or not these reviews are as scripted as the Nostalgia Critic ones. :/
Michelle Lehto ofc they're going to redo some things to make it a bit smoother. calm downEdit: and ofc that last part was scripted
It was basically avengers, But with more relatable characters. Yes, a talking raccoon is relatable.

This is probably my favorite MCU movie. It's even better than the Avengers. (hides into bunker)
Don't worry, most MCU fans agree with you on the latter. I'm still in favor of Winter Soldier though
The best from MCU, it is a incredibel movie but guardiens of the galaxy is fantastic to
i don't have a favourite mcu movie but guardians is in the top 5
That Infinity War drawing is like the COOLEST thing, especially considering he did that with his friends as a kid.

It hasn't even come out yet.

Because he's an adorable little fucker, that's why.
WOW, did they really just say this was more stupid than a Michael Bay movie? What is even the hell? Honestly, why did they have to call the movie stupid so much? Ridiculousness is a big part of what makes the film good, but they sounded like they were complaining about it.
They probably meant it's stupid in a good way. Michael Bay's films however is a different story.
guardians: stupid as fun
bay: stupid as shit
Rob's........pauses........ are so...................fucking.................................................................................LONG
But his explanation of why he enjoyed the movie because of him being taken back to his childhood was perfect
At this point, I think complaining about space physics is pointless in fantasy/sci-fi.
Benjamin Del Rosario Helps the action is badass.
Agreed
Rob always gives backhanded compliments lol. I feel like he complained about more than what needed to be complained about. "Story? What story? Plot? What plot?" Then he took it back saying I don't care. I loved this movie.
Gather around childeren. Let me tell you the story of the legend kevin bacon and his story of footloose
Wow Rob, that infinity war print is so awesome!
You're right about the trailer. My first impression was "They are trying waaaay too hard".
I just got back from the theatre.
That's EXACTLY what I thought of Groot!
I don't know why but I love when Doug is just looking over at that picture
Guardians of the Galaxy was not only the first film I watched in a theater after over 3 years, but also the first film that made me return to watch it again.
THIS MOVIE WAS THE BEST THING THAT I HAVE EVER WITNESSED IN MY LIFE.
I loved it. First film since Avengers to actually hit me right in my chest. Loved it.
I loved this movie it was hilarious I think I ended up seeing it about 4 times at the movies :P
Guardians of the Galaxy is a great film. I LOVE IT!!!
you have a movie about a talking raccoon, a tree that says "i am groot", a 70s pop music soundtrack in a sci fi space theme, and you remade howard the duck for a few seconds. this movie is awesome.
Damn I can´t wait for the sequel... love this movie.
Drax was my favorite, I love him so much.
Its 6 years since the first Guardians of the galaxy came out!! damn
Someone likes Ronan! I wasn't crazy about him, though I love Lee Pace, and most of the reviewers I've watched really don't like Ronan AT ALL. But, I'm going to watch it again, and try to see him as silly, and see if that works for me.
"That was a REALLY good plan!" god I loved this movie to death.
That drawing is awesome. You guys are good. Nice Rob.
The first five minutes being so different tonally from the rest of the movie reminded me of X-Men 1...
So Rob reads a lot of Marvel comics, but doesn't know who Ronan the Accuser is? Dafuq?
I think what he means is that he's more of a casual reader than an actual constant reader. He knows a lot of the bigger stories and characters but he doesnt know as much as someone who reads almost every comic he/she can find.
***** Fair enough, but I would think he'd have come across SOME mention of Ronan... guy's a long-time FF, Avengers and Captain Marvel villain. Weird.
bigfatcarp93 He literally says that as far as the Marvel galaxy went, he read the Infinity War and that's it. He didn't read the Guardians of the Galaxy, and didn't delve deeply into the Fantastic Four, and in the Thor 2 review he says he never really read much Thor either. In fact in the Spiderman2 review he comes across as a Spiderman/X-men marvel fan.
Could be one of those X-Fans.
dmdm232323 But I also recall a making of NC where they talked about their comic collections, and I thought Rob mentioned having a lot of cosmic stuff.
Rocket in a cat carrier cage. Would've been funny. :D
Far and away better than Avengers. I think GOTG had much more substance than is being given credit for. I agree with the Ghostbusters comparison.
This is like #2 on my favorite films of 2014 list!
***** X-Men: Days of Future Past.
barbaro267
It's #4.
barbaro267
The Lego Movie
***** And #5?
Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
I would say that Guardians was better than Avengers. I say this only because I enjoyed both movies immensely the first time watching it. However, Avenger didn't hold up to me the second time. Guardians was just as good the second as the first. I can't sit through Avenger's again, but I can't wait to own Guardians on Blueray.
lmao @ Doug's face noticing the huge drawing
I know what it's like, man. "Where the hell did that come from?" "It's been there literally since the day we moved in." ". . . really."
The whistling dagger. That's all.
Best sci-fi action I've seen seen Serenity =)
Some of the things you said you like about this movie reminded me about Ninja Turtles, in a way.
Awesome piece of content. Keep up the great work! :))
Just got home from seeing it. Absolutely loved it. Probably the best movie of the summer I've seen! And yeah...Rocket was my favorite XD
NICE Drawing. :)
This is what I remember, Doug with hair. So whenever he cut it all off is when I should start watching.
This was the first Marvel movie I've ever seen. And based on that experience, I really need to see more Marvel movies.
a movie with 70s POP music doesnt need a story
the yodeling needs to become the permanent sibling rivalry theme
That infinity war drawing is fucking awesome! I'd pay big money just for a printed copy of that.
Yes, I loved Benicio Del Toro in this movie. I really wish there was more of him.
.i thought this movie was so much better than Avengers for one big reason.

4 Yrs Later...
Avengers Infinity War comes out .....
Ask and you shall Receive
Agreed. Loved the art.
The Funny Thing Is That As Outlandish as The Guardians Are, They Are far more relatable Than The Avengers
Same difference
+Sean “DragonStryk72” McTiernan Problem is that seem to have not even tried to follow the story, which is wierd, it's to simple and obvious... I mean, seriously?!? written by David Lynch? And yes, the movie asumes you know the Marvel cosmic universe pretty well, but it still has a ridiculously easy to follow story.
Well, can't argue with that. Fully agree.
Please review your artwork! It looks amazing!
