Apple wanted to just get their chip to the market as fast as possible and didn't want to wait. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Im looking to get an M4 - have not decided on yet exactly what computer? Will be for photo editing (sports action photography), streaming, reading articles and maybe light gaming.
I have a Mac mini Pro and I'm completely satisfied with it. I don't think the M4 will be $699 but probably $100 more. What I would like to see is a new thinner Mini (like some have already shown) with an SD card slot and the power supply separate from the computer. That would free up a lot of space inside (almost a quarter) and remove some heat. I think the mini-Pro should have at least one thunderbolt port in front and the SD card reader in front too. This would help to align the design with the Studio. You might even get away with an entry Mini without a fan (like the MB Air) and this way they could keep the price down to $699 as you mentioned. But the Pro version could be closer aligned to Studio with fan for cooling more cores and ram . Probably also have a bump to better Wi-Fi and better NPU. The main reason Apple can't raise their prices more is the advent of the Snapdragon Elite X. These are going to put a lot of pressure on Apple to lower their prices. They won't be able to ask ridiculous prices for Ram and storage upgrades now that Windows will be competing for the same market.
I just entered the apple world with my iphone 15 pro max coming from Android and Blackberry before that! I am really considering getting a Mac to further appreciate the eco system this year!

@@Muhammad-sx7wr I do have an answer to your question. I own a business so I sometimes need to consider buying machines from a business owner's perspective. And the 8GB models are far from "unusable". 1. Should Chromebooks all die because they are completely unusable pieces of crap? Is 8GB not enough for a browser? 4. It makes no sense to your use case. A new MacBook Pro barely costs more than a new iPhone and I fully expect to get a decade out of it.
