- Ah yes, to absolutely no one's surprise Monarch's attempts to retrieve the Ladybug and Cat Miraculouses prove futile. But this episode delves into just how desperate this man truly is, and how he is truly screwed over by the ridiculously OP'd lucky charm. Even though we get no further through the plot, this was actually one of my more favoured episodes of the season, and even with it's plot holes, it shows the writing can actually be recent if they put the work in!
This episode really showcased two big plot armours of the show. One being the lucky charm and two being Gabe's smooth brain ruining actually good plans
Since season 2
Two is actually everyone suddenly losing their brain, but Gabe is on daily basis
I stopped watching around season 3 or 4, has there actually been any real progress plotwise since then? Do ladybug and chat know each other's identities already? I kinda got sick of "Omg, it's been you all along! Oh nevermind, time travel so it never happened or memory erased"

I don't really like how Kim went from a normal all-muscles guy who's best friends with the all-brains guy of the class to a complete douche. His and Max' friendship dynamic at the start of the series was pretty good :[

Yeah although seeing him in his swimming pants and class and everyone laughing at him that was so funny he sucks but is funny I don't know what's wrong with me I feel like I lost my giggles but you know as if I still had them I'd laugh so hard
I think it’s just been so long that people have forgotten, but Marinette literally used to call Kim a bully back in the early seasons. There was a part where it just sort of changed and they all became more friends.

Well, he just goes with the flow and remains calm, so he doesn't get desperate and start spamming it unnecessarily.
Or maybe everyone one eles that had it waere utterly ridiculous at using it.
That's the point. Ladybug has a perfect sense of who should get which miraculous. The only time this failed was when she was blinded by her love for Adrien and gave him the miraculous. And we could see that she made a bad decision because he was awful with that power. But even then, she knew the type of person that the miraculous needed to go to. She knew it was someone like Luka, but she didn't give it to Luka.
We see this again when we find out why Alix received the Rabbit miraculous in the first place. She's good at keeping secrets. She's good at knowing what information to withhold, and what information to share. That's what makes her the perfect wielder for the rabbit miraculous.
Nathaniel with the goat and Marc with the rooster make sense too. The goat needs someone who can draw the perfect item that can help them in any situation. Perfect for the artist Nathaniel. The rooster needs someone who can get creative and come up with a power that would be useful in any given situation. Perfect for the writer Marc.
The monkey, although chosen by Master Fu, fits Kim's more laid-back and goofy nature. The pig matches Rose's desire to make people happy and show them love and compassion. The dog matches Sabrina's loyalty (which has more to do with the animal than the power I suppose). The power to control the weather which comes with the dragon is perfect for Kagami, who is very elegant and in control of herself.
If Gabriel was in better health he would of won eventually

Question: How is Max simultaneously stupid enough to make the code for his super-advanced AI open-source and intelligent enough to create said super-advanced AI in the first place?
The same reason how he's smart enough to make an AI with feelings but believe a thrown napkin can gouge out your eyes despite wearing glasses
The answer is simple wisdom and intelligence are separate stats

This episode just showed that the lucky charm is just the “I win” power. As long as you use it, the outcome will always be in your favor

@StrawberryStar theres another weakness too where a user might be mistaken about when to use it or that they didn't need it after all, and since its used up after using miraculous ladybug they could accidentally fuck themselves when the actual moment they needed it for arrives

Literally all Hawkmoth needs to do is activate the 2nd chance AFTER Ladybug has activated her lucky charm. That way, the item from the lucky charm is fixed.

The problem is, from ep 2 to this ep, is there an instance where LB summoned the power in front of the villain? if she does, then monarch would know when to activate second chance.

I think the existence of the episode is important as Second Chance is probably the most powerful of the powers Gabe still has access to, but it still could have been done better.
Also, let's be clear, he was outright looking to murder two teenagers in this episode. And out in space where the bodies couldn't be recovered.

What's with him starting in the next episode AND later on he absolutely refuses to let Marinette and adrien hang out although I assume that he's only letting adrien with Marinette here not knowing that they are becoming a couple

The one thing that annoyed me so much about this episode is Gabe was too focused on getting both miraculous at the same time. Just cause he needs both of them to grant his wish, doesn’t mean he needs to get both of the at the same time. Like mate, you got Cat Noir dead to rights, take his miraculous now and take Ladybugs at another point in time. By taking Cat Noir’s ring, you’re halfway there in winning and it would be a matter of time of getting the earrings.
That would be interesting, because he'll be killing his son in space and when he realizes chat noir is adrien ...

Actually, this episode subtly justifies why Monarch doesn't take the Cat Miraculous...as long as Ladybug is around, even when Cat Noir is out of commission, she *will* find a way to win. While, yeah, he'd be closer with either knowledge of Cat Noir's identity or with the actual Miraculous itself, he still has to get the Ladybug Miraculous or else he will lose.
Plus, as Deflagration showed, he knows he has to *immediately* neutralize Plagg first, and he can only utilize a few powers at a time. Since Cat Noir is going to change back anyway with no escape, it does make sense to prioritize taking the Ladybug Miraculous.

The reason they don't use the space power-ups as defaults it's because it requires feeding their quami's special blends. Based on Syren all the way back in S2, the ingredients for those must be crazy hard to source.
Also, is it just me, or is Gabe getting lazy with the Villain names, they just feel so basic.

Speaking of weird plotholes in this episode: Why would the Tsurugi company send Maxs mom up in orbit in an AI controlloled aircraft if she can't take over control herself when the AI fails? I feel like it should be a given that the pilot can take back control when the autopilot/AI malfunctions. That seems like an obvious safety precaution. It's a morbid tought, but maybe that's why she was allowed to go up into orbit so soon? Most likely I'm overthinking things 😅
Maybe the AI actively evolves with time and can find a way to override the safety protocols.
In desparada, Adrien states that he spent 9 months using second chance. He returned home later that day 9 months older

25,913*5 = 129,565 minutes
60min/hr * 24hr/day = 1,440min/day
129,565min / 1,440min/day ≈ 90 days
90days / 30days/month ≈ 3 months
@@ryanman0083 Slight error. Each try isn't five minutes, it can only last for five minutes. It's very likely some of the tries lasted for less, probably entering the territory of seconds.
Neither Monarch nor the heroes could win, which is why the script made they do stupid things to purposefully lose, like Monarch not trying to get Cat Noir's ring first and at least discovering his identity without forgetting, or Cat Noir not getting the snake ring and preventing Monarch from using it. There were many ways for them to win, but they couldn't.
And the fact that he could've just sucker Venom them from the back anytime he wanted, but never did because, you can guess it, plot armor, yeaaay
Hello. I think the idea is for Monarch to defeat himself, which follows the show statement "using Miraculous for the wrong reason creates bad karma". If this turns out to be correct then... What a lame resolution, the show should be renamed to "The tragic story of Butterfly Gabi". 😀
@@azanyo I can see that, but for me the case was that they made Monarch very powerful but they still need to make him lose, and instead of trying to do something complicated but that does justice to the situation, they choose to solve it in a simple way which ends up making the characters ridiculous.

Actually they both can win if Gabe use the OP... Ammm... Bull miracilous? The miraculous can grant any wish. Then he can heal himself and Nathalie and revive his wife. Then Gabe win. Also the duo win because they don't need to deal with Monarch.
The major problem with this man is that he overestimates himself, underestimate his opponents, never learns from his mistakes it’s like they say the selfish man is like a naïve dog, chasing his own tail going in circles and never getting anywhere

Ikr he did get the cat miraculous first in both Ephemeral and in Kwamis choice part 2, so he really can get them one at a time. At best he would at least have Ladybug's last ally eliminated.

In Deflagration, even accounting for the resistance of the kwamis, Plagg still Cataclysmed the ring. Plus as shown, even when he neutralizes Cat Noir, as as long as Ladybug herself is there, he loses. Now think, it's bad enough that every time he loses, that's less time he has left, but at least he's using supervillains as proxies so the victory stops with them. When he did go out into the field he ended up on the losing end of a Cataclysm that's still killing him and had to return to proxies. For all he knows, letting Ladybug go will end up leading to a worse defeat where he can't try again.
I really wished he just took the cat miraculous and just called it a day. A win is a win

As usual, ladybug and cat noir had a chance to get some of the miraculous back but also as usual, did not capitalize on it. Hell Ladybug could have taken Gabe’s butterfly miraculous last season and stopped ALL this in one go!

One of the best episodes in my opinion, I was always wondering why they never showed him use the snake miraculous but now this explains every plot hole there was. I loved this one

I think that the biggest plot hole in this episode are the powers, they're broken, mostly ladybug and snake combined.. I actually thought that Ladybug would get the same lucky charm everytime but would defeat the villains in another way, but no, her lucky charm changes, which kinda makes the snake miraculous compared to the ladybug weak..
The three biggest problems for me in this episode is why didn’t Monarch take Chat Noir’s Miraculous? Even if he can’t take Ladybug’s Miraculous, he can easily take the Cat Miraculous without trouble. Ladybug is too far away to intervene and, even if she was close by, she can’t break the Shell-Ter Shield in time to prevent Gabriel from simply stealing the Cat Miraculous, so what gives?
Another thing that bothered me is that Chat Noir was able to activate the Snake Miraculous’s Superpower. That’s not how Miraculouses work
A third thing is that Monarch wasted so many second chances with his plan. I mean, is this man dumb?! He knows that using the Snake Miraculous is incredibly risky and lethal to him and yet Gabriel wasted so many Second Chances simply because he didn’t think things through like him dealing with Tomoe and not comping up with a solid excuse with A.D.A to keep her thinking that she had lost Claudie. I mean, seriously, telling A.D.A to strap in the pilot inside to make sure she doesn’t escape? Come on, Gabriel 🤦🏻♂️
I guess he just really wanted to spend time groping Cat Noir's arm or something, because seriously, it does not take that long to grab someone's arm/hand.
@@starsiadraws Honestly true, Monarch was taking way too much time in trying to grab the Cat Miraculous and I didn't know why Gabriel didn't make the Voyage Portal a little bit bigger so that he can at least see what he is trying to grab. I don't think Adrien's body wasn't aging during the 2 ½ month second chance sequence, Monarch's cataclysm probably overrode the snake's second chance
That kind of makes sense. Another thing is that the snake miraculous' costume (when it was in its original form) may have stopped the user's body from experiencing the effect of time but when he altered it he robbed himself of that power. This could be the case for all time time related miraculous and would explain why Bunnix didn't age while she was in stone in the episode Timetagger.

The Power of Luck is OP if you think about it. You could fight against superman, but as long as you are lucky, you could still dodge all his attacks and win.

One contradiction I immediately noticed is that literally in the episode that I think it was max’s mom who got akumatized, they established that the akuma was too far from hawk moth to control it since they went to outer space, literally what happened here
They went to a different city. Outer space was after the akuma landed.

Monarch's use of Second Chance in this episode is the equivalent of spending all your currency in a game to continue where you left before you lost and then immediately losing again.

Season 5 really should not exist bc Gabriel could have EASILY gotten his wish in the first episode. He could just use borrow to go back in time to any instance and location with ladybug, rewind time, and wait for her to transform back into Marinette. Do the same thing for Adrian and then win. Like it’s that easy and it goes without a chance that this show has a major writing problem. It really takes the joy out of the show bc you know Gabe can just win so easily. It’s so painful, and I lowkey hope he actually gets his wish bc he’s earned it at this point.

I gotta agree with Smarty, Ladybug and Cat Noir should always be in their space forms, the speed would just blitz every opponent unless they have superspeed. Sure it will require a power up treat every time, but with the whole concept of "you decide the limits of your power" introduced in season 4, there isn't anything stopping Ladybug from just making the power ups herself, supplying the two of them with a nigh infinite amount.
Uhhhhh- Is it just me or did the writer's forget that TECHNOLOGY can't detect Kwamis and can see the heroes for their TRUE civilian selves(Reference the New York movie, Aeon, who is basically the robotics superhero girl excuse me with the wrong terms since I'm not very educated on them :'], KNEW Ladybug and Cat Noir's identity) and somehow ADA can't sense it??? WhA??? I get she can't see her pilot but SOMEHOW she manages to see Ladybug as Ladybug and not Marinette? Pls explain to me someone :']

Thru Luka's emotions of anxiety and fear that he knew the hero's identity SURELY he would be able to figure it out thru ADA right-?? About the Jets Speed, it can probably reach orbit at a slower speed because it’s so small and lighter, so it doesn’t need as much force to overcome gravity

Honestly I'm so annoyed as to why the reoccurring AIs can't recognise Ladybug and Cat Noir. The AI girl in the New York movie was able to "see through the magic" why can't Markov and Aida? Dumb
This isn't surprising, considering that Gabriel messed up when he had the rabbit miraculous because of his obsession with a couple of teenagers. He's an absolute lunatic given that he would do anything to defeat them.
This episode was meh. I really felt like it was nothing.

i’m going to address some of the most controversial stuff about this episode, gonna try to provide you guys with what doesn’t make sense but i will also try to reason with the illogical parts of the episode
so first, about the fact that monarch could have EASILY won if he truly used the miraculous powers he owned to the full extent; it would have been so easy to just venom cat noir and immediately voyage to ladybug to take her miraculous. ladybug literally can’t do anything, and after that he still has 5 minutes-ish (basically until venom wears off on cat noir) to steal the miraculous and done! you have both the miraculous. to defend gabriel, we know that he is a little crazy and is absolutely obsessed with the miraculous. being more insane in s5, he probably has tunnel vision and is unable to think outside of his original scheme and improvise on the spot. too bad because that’s literally what the snake miraculous is for, but there’s a reason why some people are just not as good as using some miraculous 🤷♀️
next, ladybug’s lucky charm phenomenon. wow, everytime gabriel tries to turn back time, ladybug’s lucky charm adapts. but isn’t that what her lucky charm is for? to help her win? monarch telling the villain his intuition in the moment can indeed be considered a factor that is enough to change the circumstances for ladybug’s lucky charm to adapt. and isn’t the ladybug and cat miraculous the most powerful miraculous for a reason? i think this one is easier to look over since ladybug’s lucky charm is supposed to be a win factor and will always be. it isn’t really a guaranteed win, since if you’re unable to find out how to utilise the lucky charm, it’s useless
and now some minor plot holes that just don’t add up
ok, so if ADA is supposed to assist the pilot when they are UNABLE to control the plane, then why does the pilot have no power at all? yeah, cause we see ada literally fly the spaceship into the void and claudie just sits there like a duck. this really doesn’t seem excusable because claudie is a professional and should be able to make the right call. even worse, ladybug can talk to ADA from outside the ship, but ADA can’t hear claudie. cool. i really don’t have anything to say about this, just a writing error that we can forgive, either ways ADA would have been akumatized
another thing is how it seems that monarch is feeling the effects of the cataclysm as he uses the snake miraculous even though it seems like no other user of the snake miraculous has suffered any changes or effects from using the miraculous of the snake (or rabbit, since both is time). HOWEVER, i don’t believe that monarch was aging, but rather only the wound from the cataclysm was getting worse. it was confirmed by the kwamis that the cataclysm is irreversible and CANNOT be stopped at all. *no magic can fix the damage from a cataclysm* (except ladybug’s restoration). the only thing that was truly getting worse was the wound and gabriel did not age at all.
TL DR; although the whole episode had major plot holes, there are still possible reasons that are able to patch if not just bandage those plot holes. i am not dismissing the fact that the writing could have been better and the writers should not have left all these plot holes for us to fix, but hey it’s miraculous and so many things don’t make sense. absolute logic from the real world cannot be applied in miraculous.

The fact Ladybug can actually create ANYTHING and never recognises this power is incredible.
Lucky charm gives her the most ideal thing but there's nothing preventing her from just making shit up a we see from the "Akuma preventers".
So, she could probably create something that generates infitine food. Or clean water? Create a tree capable of stabilising the environment alone? Even a new lifeform maybe. She can do all that yes.
She's completely unbalanced. Only way to balance it is maybe if cataclysm can end the universe at once or something.
Not to say you're wrong but it was explained that the lucky charm doesn't just give you whatever you want or some magical made up non existent object, it's just a PIECE of the puzzle that the holder has to figure out how to use. So let's say she wanted to solve a water crisis, the lucky charm won't just magically give her a device that will solve world-wide water crisis, it will probably give her something that tells her where to start to begin changing the entire world's drinking water. But it would take years and years for her to actually solve a worldwide water crisis regardless of the lucky charm, not only that, but she would have to try and figure what exactly where the lucky charm is telling her to start and follow with which most likely won't be easy.
While it is messed up Adrien doesn't notice his father in pain, you have to admit it's kinda deserved.

Option 1: Ladybug call up her miraculous ladybug. She can recharge, and get another lucky charm later which will repair the rest of her damage.
Option 2: They turn around so the kwamis do not see the other wielder, the kwamis recharge using the whipped cream and they quickly retransform. The whipped cream was only at their waists by the time it stopped and drained. They would not have drowned, their kwamis could just quickly recharge.
Option 3: Identity reveal. Cat noir could quickly go: Claws in, claws out! Plagg is seen to devour camembert so quickly.
Option 4: Identity reveal: Plagg uses his cataclysm to bust them out. Dark Owl gets destroyed and sent far away by the side effects. They have enough time to recharge.
Option 5: They eat the recharge food themselves. It has been seen that superheroes can power up by eating the power ups themself. It should be the same for general recharge.
I like option 3 the best, an identity reveal. There were so many options. They should not have given up. And they should have fake miraculous on them ALL THE TIME. Kagami or Socqueline would be a better Ladybug, who think from their head and not heart. And Cat Noir should have also thought from his head, not listen to LB. But he's a good CN. Although Juleka and Kagami, what a perfect female duo. The show needs big time superhero change. 😅. Who agrees and what option do you like best?

1. Even if Ladybug calls up the magical cure and it works, that only frees both of them from the confinement. Both she and Cat Noir would still be on timers.
2. That's actually what I thought was going to happen, since whipped cream is at the midpoint between cheese (Plagg's favorite food) and sweets (Tikki's favorite food). That said there was nothing wrong with the solution they chose. It's possible Tikki may have needed more time to eat, though,

5. Eating power-ups when transformed only works because their kwamis are powering them. They can't do this as civilians.
Neither Kagami nor Socqueline would have made a good Ladybug. In order to be a good Ladybug, you have to be creative. Kagami is shown not be be creative, and Socqueline hasn't shown creativity either.
Honestly, while it was enjoyable, this episode kinda takes the tension out of any future fights between Monarch and the heroes since it essentially confirms that no matter what good plan Monarch comes up with, it is impossible for him to get a victory.

He is useing second chance even though it comes with the price of his health because in his mind if he can just win this time it will have been worth it, hence he tries again and again. It's compareable to gambling for more money when you are already poor and can't really afford it, but if you win it will have been worth it as you can pay of the debt.

There is a lot of strongest and second strongest miraculouses. In origin they told cat and ladybug miraculous is way too powerfull than other ones. But Then we have bunny miraculous and Bunnix say "It's the most powerfull" then we have snake miraculous for some reason it is a downgrade version of bunny miraculous. Why do they need a downgraded versin? I don't know. Then we have roosto and ox. One of them give you any power you want and other one grant a wish. Writers can't even protect power dynamic.

This episode really put into perspective cuz I was wondering why Monarch never uses the snake miraculous ever since Gabe made them into rings. Apart from the smooth brain play by Gabe as always, this episode was rather enjoyable. Not bad. 👍🏻

Wondering how they plan to end the Season, my guess is: Gabriel won't die / LB will somehow heal him, nobody gets a punishment expect Chloe (the horrors of solitude!), welcome Season 6!
Just for the fun: Intuition HISHE (How it should have ended!): Monarch paralyzes Chat, takes his Miraculous and celebrates as he carelessly drops the turtle shell and Adrien becomes paste in space ("paste in space..." 🙂)! Too dark? Revised HISHE! Monarch paralyzes Chat, teleports him to his lair, takes his Miraculous and learns Adrien's secret ID! Only one to go Gabriel, go, go go!!!
