    Here in Australia, most people takes these ADV bikes well and truly off-road, deep into the bush and desert, we have some great suspension people in this country that make these bikes even more capable in those environments.

    • @Liberty4Ever

      I've watched the T7 in Oz videos. With some reasonably priced suspension mods and beefing up the exhaust mount, the T7 can be an absolute off road monster. Kudos to those guys. Impressive!

      Some of the Aussies rolling this bike are insane, though the core is there. I took mine single-tracking with just crashbars and new tires, and was really impressed. I bet with pimped suspension it's nuts.
      Still hoping we see something like a Tenere 350 or something though after the loss of the WR250R. Especially after Kawi and Honda refreshing theirs to 300s.

    Can confirm T7 = cushy big dirtbike vibes.
    Can also confirm, was called a lunatic for taking it down singletrack, and lived. 2nd gear and clutching for most of it too.
    It does road, it does gravel, and it bombs down singletrack, all while being super simple. Swiss army bike.
    Has some flaws, but overall it's a winner.
    TLDR: Yamaha made a better KLR650.

    • @MrDavidfuchser
      @MrDavidfuchser 3 года назад +24

      oh come on! Just because the klr has half the power, damper rod forks, and weighs more doesn't mean u....wait where was I going with this?

    • @ElectronNinja
      @ElectronNinja 3 года назад +7

      Well at least it's cheap! Though part of why I went with the T7 was that despite being a 30+ year old design, KLR650 parts are EXPENSIVE!
      A T7 radiator assembly is ~160$. The equivalent SKU for the KLR is $800+. That said...ebay provides.

    • @dougiequick1
      @dougiequick1 2 года назад

      meanwhile Kawasaki actually managed to make the KLR worse than ever! It actually now weighs right about the T7 weight but not close to the power...other than the low price Icant imagine wanting the new klr....I went to the gieco adv rally lots of bikes of all makes I saw one older gen klr which I never saw it move from parking place but not a single other klr on the routes or parking /camping areas.... pretty much said it all right there

    • @RW-of3pn
      @RW-of3pn Год назад +1

      I have both the KLR and T7 and I can't justify keeping both, the T7 really is just a modern day better version of the KLR. IThe CP2 is a proven motor and is practically bullet proof, it's insanely fun on the street, it looks super cool, and it's not a complete pig off-road. The only thing the KLR had going for it was that it was the most bang for your buck adventure bike, but the T7 is only a few thousand dollars more and you get a much better bike imo.

    The older I get the more I find myself looking at this class of bike. For me the one I've watched a lot of videos on and find myself gravitating toward though is the 650 V-Strom.

    • @ElectronNinja
      @ElectronNinja 3 года назад +11

      I've got the T7 all whacked out for dualsporting, and a friend has the 650 strom XT. Both 2021s. The strom is the better "touring bike" out of the box IMO, while keeping some offroad chops. More comfortable and lower set.
      That said, the T7 is like a KLR. You can go put a couch seat on it with highway pegs.
      TLDR: T7 is more offroad biased and can absolutely go singletracking, but you can totally go on roadtrips. Wee Strom 650 is more road biased, but will still scratch your dirt road itch if you want it. Both have excellent power delivery with either a 270* crank (T7) or the 90* vstrom twin.

    • @timsretirementjourney8323
      @timsretirementjourney8323 3 года назад +2

      @@ElectronNinja yes that's kind of the impression I had with watching different RUclips videos.
      Both seem like excellent bikes that have their strong points aimed at different type riders.
      The fact that I'd very seldom go off road other than maybe down the occasional rural gravel road is one of the reasons I'd go with the V-Strom. I'd be more likely to enjoy some of the twisties though the mountains here in BC on good pavement, and my adventures might briefly take me off that for a more scenic view at times.
      Happy and safe riding brother. It sounds like you and your friend have some nice riding ahead on those new bikes.

      Just picked up a 2015 V-Strom 650. Rode half of route 66 and it was very fantastic. Comfort fuel economy power everything was just right. Got a really good deal at under $5,000.
      Took a long time for me to find one at that rate.

    • @timsretirementjourney8323
      @timsretirementjourney8323 3 года назад +2

      @@JCrozier1 I had heard the comfort and fuel economy is great on those. I have a feeling that sooner or later I'm going to get one. A new DL650A here in Vancouver BC is $10,200.00 CDN or about $8,400.00 US, although when you ad in taxes and extra charges it bumps it up quite a bit more.
      For a bike like that I'd still consider it a pretty good value though.

    • @JCrozier1
      @JCrozier1 3 года назад +1

      For reference, my other touring bike is a bandit 1250 s with a tall screen and a sergeant seat.
      Mini tanks on my ride with the V-Strom were over 50mpg. The bandit typically did 35 to 42 depending on how cool I was about speed.
      The t7 is a little lighter than the 650, but with the initial cost to buy one, and of course, availability, I would try a V-Strom.

    Here is my dream Yamaha WR350R or T3 and ideal features that I would love to have,
    - Wet Weight 325 - 350 lbs
    - Engine 350cc
    - Seat Height 33.2inches (3"4' lower than wr250r). Same seat height as Yamaha DT125 1983 model.
    - Wider and more comfortable Seat for long distance ride
    - Gas Tank capacity 3 Gallons
    - Max load over 400lbs just like wr250r
    - Better Front and Rear Suspensions
    - Brighter lights LED lights
    - Better electronics system for add-on extra lights. But not drain the battery.
    - Price $7699
    - Long maintenance intervals just like WR250R or T7
    - Should be comfortable on Highway with 80mph true speed.
    - ABS on/off
    - Don't put the exhaust pipe low like T7. But put it like DT125 1983 or WR250R and make sure to not burn the cover or anything by it.

    5k miles and I love my T7. Sold a couple of my other bikes because this is just so much fun in in a variety of riding. Pretty peppy in town. Easily does long miles but agree the stock seats needs a cushion or the rally seat. I’ve even taken this on MX tracks and it surprisingly does well. Don’t get me wrong it’s no MX bike but u can run it fairly hard and even with the stock suspension it can handle jumps no problem. The only thing I upgraded was a heavier rear spring because that bottoms pretty easy with the stock spring. I kept my CB1000 for when want to go fast and twisties but honestly when I have 50/50 tire on the T7 is pretty fun on the twisters in a different kind of way. Only gripe is this bike is top heavy and a beotch to lift in off road conditions.

    I think, correct me if I'm wrong, cruise control would require throttle-by-wire.
    I also rented one for two days and rode it on about 100 miles of mixed off-road, gravel and some deep sand. Unfortunately I dropped my rental in the sand and broke a couple of ribs. On the second day of my rental I went and got a chest X-ray and verified the fractured ribs and then rode the bike 150 miles that day- after I took 800mg of ibuprofen.
    But, as soon as I can put my hands on a new 2022 I'm buying one. Absolutely loved the bike.

      Have you ever ridden a bigger adv bike? I’ve ridden 1080,1290. That’s it. I’m torn between the Africa twin and t7. I think the t7 would be better for fore roads, harder dirt and around town. But the Africa twin would be better for highway miles and carrying gear. I’m not sure what to get. Once I pay off a loan I’m going to make a decision.

    • @travispace9176

      @@kyjelly5524 I sold my T7 and bought an Africa Twin. The T7 is the perfect 50/50 bike. I bought a TW200 for trail duty and got the Africa Twin to replace the T7.

    • @kyjelly5524

      @@travispace9176 dude. Same dilemma. I have a drz and it’s great. I want a t7 or Africa twin for better road riding and long distance. The Africa twin would be better for the road, long highway rides, passenger, and carrying gear but the t7 would be cool because I can hit the local trails, it’s lighter, I can still go far but not as comfortable. If I get the t7 I wouldn’t ride with a passenger unless it’s really close. The t7 seems like it would be more fun around town and I may be able to hit harder trails than the Africa twin.
