Hey Patrick. I spoke with you on the phone the other day about wanting to start melting my own silver and gold. Is the kwik kiln really only 4 inches tall and 4 inches wide including the spacer? What size are the crucibles & how much do they weigh? I also saw 3 different types of powder and I remember you saying that the black flux was for gold only and it purifies dirty gold. Would I need to use the white flux on tarnished sliver? I have so many questions still but I am going to keep doing my research until I can save up to buy the GPK Deluxe Kwik Kiln II Melting Kit with 2 Mag-Torches.. I am affriad to use the pencil torch heads from Home Depot b/c I read they might not fit the hole in the kiln.

What does the vinegar overnight do ? And is there a specific type of vinegar you use ?

What is the lifespan of the kiln? How many hours, tanks or melts?

one question! Would it make a difference to use mapp gas? maybe melt bronze

Just got my son this kiln for Christmas. We purchased two Bernzomatic UL2317 torch heads from Lowes and use them on Coleman camp stove propane canisters. They worked for a while, but after the 3rd or 4th use, the heads sputter and very little flame comes through. The canisters are full. We've used both older and newer torch heads on full and half full canisters with the same result. Any suggestions? What heads do you use? Surely theses heads aren't getting clogged after only 3-4 uses? Its 30-40 degrees outside temp also...would that change how the propane vaporizes in the cans? Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your time.

Brian Wilson if the Coleman propane cylinders are laying on their sides, as he has them in the video, they can begin to sputter and not flow efficiently. Tilting them more than 60 degrees will cause that to happen. Perhaps trying to lift the kiln off the surface of whatever you have it on with some fire bricks to allow the cylinders to stand would help with this problem

Propane torches are icing up due to the cold

Pretty sure mixing insulation with the cement plaster mold reinforces as well as increases insulation rate as well. But also curious the coating on the outside looks to be a thin cast iron which also would be a good insulator to. So kind of curious on the material of this kit. As it seems very easy to make bigger versions of this kit if you just know the material used in the lining and outside.

Good video, but why would you put the bar in vinegar overnight ?

What will happen if you mix small particles of aluminum and copper in the crucible?

Nice demonstration on how to uses these mini gas kilns. I am curious what the white material is made of is it porcelain , cement plaster ,...What ? The reason i ask is i am thinking about making them but i find when i heat stuff on regular cement , some types of brick the heat transfer is to rapid so there is some types of cement , brick ,...etc materials that can retain heat better. Don't want to pour the mold and only to find the heat transfer is to quick to melt anything. I was thinking the fix is mixing cellulose fibers or insulation material with the cement plaster as i pour the mold.

Sir, you need to buy: Ceramic Fiber Insulation Board (2300F) (1" X 23.6" X 23.6") Thermal Insulation. Available from Ebay.

@@diamondminer9263 Is there any reason why regular insulation of high r-values won't work well enough ? And curious what connectors do you use for connecting heating wire together? Like will an old iron based clamp down work or something specific. I would imagine it just has to be a solid iron connector because temps won't get hot enough to melt iron because the heating wire itself would probably melt to at this point.

Curious also if you can make an electric kiln to melt high temp melts like iron > or if those are all done with a gas blast furnace/kiln. I would imagine you have to use tungsten wire if there is any chance and if so there have to be special tungsten connectors to connect wires up. At that point i say specially made insulation may have to be used. But i am guessing still at this stage.
