I switched from Windows 11 to Linux about two weeks ago. I tested several distributions on my modest hardware (RX 580 + Ryzen 5 3600 + 16GB RAM), including Garuda, Nobara, Bazzite, and Cachy. Interestingly, even though I followed the instructions from Cachy's videos, I experienced better performance using Garuda and Bazzite (measured using Mangohud). I then decided to install Arch Linux with the Zen kernel (arch install script). Despite some installation challenges, it was worth the effort. To my surprise, it performed slightly better than Cachy in most games, offering more stability and fluidity. I tested several games, including Diablo 4 from GamePass, CS2, Minecraft, Palworld, and Cyberpunk 2077. Overall, I enjoyed using Arch Linux and even managed to run some mobile games through Waydroid, such as TFT and Honkai Star Rail. In my tests, most games ran better on Linux than on Windows 11. Cyberpunk 2077, in particular, showed remarkable improvement with approximately 20% higher FPS. Curiously, Counter-Strike 2 was the only game that performed worse than on Windows. As I'm still learning the ropes of Linux, I'm being cautious to avoid breaking my Arch Linux installation.
It's strange In Cyberpunk I get 37 fps and on W11 I get 50 fps in overdrive preset on a fresh install. I tested many thing but always the same bad performance on cachyOs. My CPU is a Ryzen 7600 and GPU rtx4060ti

Hi Max, I hope you'll do a video about AM5 CPUs in Cachy. There is something huge in the way actual 9000X got the promised uplift on Clear Linux and Cachy but not on Windows, and when X3D will be out I would be surprised if best gaming benchmarks would not be by far on Cachy. People complain a lot about how they get only 5% uplift on Windows with no clue that on optimized Linux distros they could get almost 18%. If it happens again with X3D versions (and if Moore's Law Is Dead is right) there could be an even more massive difference between gaming on Windows and on Linux using next AMD CPUs. Such video could motivate a lot to migrate. ^^

I keep getting this weird issue where as soon as I boot up a game, it is at a capped 144fps with vsync enabled. After a few seconds, the fps will lower to around 100, sometimes as low as 68-72. I have double checked that I don't have any power saving features enabled, I put my GPU in P0 (it was in P8 before so I thought it could be affecting it) to no avail. I also did everything in this video and I am getting the same issue. The game in question is actually my own that I am developing with Love2D. If I open a blank project that does nothing but print the FPS on the screen, this issue persists.

Hey, I'm relatively new to linux. I installed cachy with gnome and it seems like my desktop/overview is capped at 60hz even though it's assigned 144hz in the display settings. Is there a workaround to this? regardless, very nice and informative video!

@@fooboomoo The name of the package is nvidia-dkms. CachyOS deactivates the GSP firmware automatically after switching from the open to the proprietary module. For more information about the nvidia drivers: wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA

Don't use brtfs for gaming. Use xfs or ext4 - they're much more performant. For home/gaming system you really don't need snapshots, multi-volume spanning etc.
NVIDIA Driver 565.77 has been the flood that kills Linux. Not really, but every distro has issues due to NVIDIA shipping the open source driver as default for no reason, making GSP firmware unable to be turned off. I switched from Nobara to Cachy, different issues, but they both stem from GSP not being disabled. I really might pick up a used AMD card just because of this mess of a driver release, as I was just starting to really enjoy Linux...
Solving the GSP issue in CachyOS is pretty straightforward, switch to the dkms version of the NVIDIA drivers and the GSP will be disabled. Go to their discord or forum for more info.
@@A1RM4X I fixed it by using CachyOS's kernel manager to build a kernel with the "Build the NVIDIA module" option ticked, no open module at all. No idea why everyone is shipping the open driver by default, even NVIDIA themselves, when proprietary has been the way to go for NVIDIA since Linux was supported. Makes no sense to me. I'm just happy I got it working well, thank you for pointing me in the right direction!

Dude i looked every where about this splitlock and how to do it and couldn't find any leads on google for some reason thank you
can you also show us how to use the controller with some games for example batman arkham city doesn't recognize my DUALSENSE on heroic launcher the same happen for a game like blasphemous is there a way around it
and also kingdom hearts games they don't even work for cashyOS
these are the examples that made me switch back to windows for the moment untill i see some kind of solution at least splitlock solution is here only the other 2 issues remain for now
which is best for a RTX 2060 SUPER open drivers or proprietary driver sorry if asked before
Test both, it is easy to switch. I use the proprietary with my 4090 (less stutter than with the open blob).
@@A1RM4X Thank you keep up the awesome guides on cachyOS
@@A1RM4X to switch just install "linux-cachyos-nvidia", correct?
@@fooboomoo The name of the package is nvidia-dkms. CachyOS deactivates the GSP firmware automatically after switching from the open to the proprietary module.
For more information about the nvidia drivers: wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA
and i would like to mention that in China it's not able to install also i found several bugs while installing this distro, especially for partitioning, and kind of sucks, so i would like to address the Cachyos developer through you to fix that problem at once.
Maybe next time Kde Neon?
Users with some chest hair also set mitigations=off
Don't use brtfs for gaming. Use xfs or ext4 - they're much more performant. For home/gaming system you really don't need snapshots, multi-volume spanning etc.
Damn he disabled pre cache
36:57 A1RM4X : what did I do?. Nothing bro just KDE crashing in a classical fashion. Where is linux experiment who keeps saying KDE is way stable now.
To be fair it is more a Lutris issue there...
I just want to say thank you for everything you are doing for the linux community as a whole. We appreciate people like you.
Bro don't just say "uhhh just don't add your hard drive i guess" can you tell me how do i format it to make it usable on linux? I spent my whole day searching for a solution and still can't find anything, linux is so much worse when you actually don't know what to do
This guy is always stuck with cachy os......endeavour is easier to optimize....if not better overall
Yeah also the other 800 Distro..spins... Sure...yeah.
@@m.m.3753 bet on it....but simplicity is achieved greatly on endeavour .....for instance yay is already packed in ....endeavour os
We all love EndeavourOS here, enjoy the video and keep smiling!
Also, I made some nice videos about EndeavourOS, please watch them if you like the distro this much =)
