Nowadays people are being way more open about their negative feelings towards women but the low key stuff has been at least somewhat normalized for a very long time. It’s something that is taught but usually not on an obvious level. Sometimes it’s something everyone is expected to roll with and it’s in the background such as chore distributions in households and childcare responsibilities that keep women at home. It’s the stereotypes about being overly emotional and the way society shames men for doing literally anything seen even so much as as feminine adjacent. Men aren’t taught to value feminine qualities and often are taught to outright reject those traits in themselves. It’s not always as obvious as a rating scale, although that too was very much normalized and still is in certain circles. I think the dehumanization runs deep and even women can begin to devalue and dehumanize themselves and other women because of how women are portrayed overall. Society doesn’t treat traits decided to be “feminine” as useful or positive unless those qualities are used in service to others, usually inside the home with those traits directed specifically at a husband and children. Not all men, yeah, that’s obvious. Great men exist, yes. Most men, I don’t think, are mask off women haters, but low key misogyny has been instilled as a normal way of life. Nowadays people are being way more open about their negative feelings towards women but the low key stuff has been at least somewhat normalized for a very long time. It’s something that is taught but usually not on an obvious level. Sometimes it’s something everyone is expected to roll with and it’s in the background such as chore distributions in households and childcare responsibilities that keep women at home. It’s the stereotypes about being overly emotional and the way society shames men for doing literally anything seen even so much as as feminine adjacent. Men aren’t taught to value feminine qualities and often are taught to outright reject those traits in themselves. It’s not always as obvious as a rating scale, although that too was very much normalized and still is in certain circles. I think the dehumanization runs deep and even women can begin to devalue and dehumanize themselves and other women because of how women are portrayed overall. Society doesn’t treat traits decided to be “feminine” as useful or positive unless those qualities are used in service to others, usually inside the home with those traits directed specifically at a husband and children. Not all men, yeah, that’s obvious. Great men exist, yes. Most men, I don’t think, are mask off women haters, but low key misogyny has been instilled as a normal way of life.
