As an American I can understand this mentality. As a Human, I side with Baldermort.
It's one thing to die for Freedom. But what a terrifying fate to be buried alive within a walking tomb that can know only bloodshed.
After hearing your explainer on why the Deredeo in particular unsettles you, my awareness immediately shifted from "cool Space Marine mech" to "why do I feel claustrophobic just looking at the damn thing?!". Amazing (and terrifying) what a shift in perspective can do...

The staggering thing which comes to mind from this gentlemans tales are, for all my love of the blood angels and their primarch, it's the iron warriors and perturabo i relate to the most.

Listening to this podcast made me wish that a lot more novels portraiting the great crusade era regarding an extensive insight into individual campains waged by the brother legions with some additional plots in the background should have been written.

Another terrific Baldermort video! To me the Dreadnought concept epitomises everything which is so fascinating, dark and compelling about the 40K universe, there's just something so dark and macabre about them. Even the normal Dreadnoughts with arms.

I am getting strong Battletech "Rifleman" vibes from this thing... Yes, I know this thing would mop the floor with a humble Rifleman, but this is Warhammer 40k after all. Over-the-top is what 40k calls Tuesday - and what makes out part of the appeal of the setting. Or it would, if I hadn't quit chasing the dragon many years ago - tired of having units of my collection rendered unplayable and be coaxed to having to buy the newest stuff they released... No, thank you. These days my only involvement with 40k remain some of the novels (Gaunt's Ghosts, Eisenhorn/Ravenor, and the Horus Heresy) and your videos, Baldermort, because i cherish your talent at storytelling. That is it.
From what I know from 40k and battletech, the riflemen likely has better armmor atleast.
It also resembles the ADR-04-Mk.X Destroid Defender from macross
@@myduckisonqauck7227 Rifleman and armor? Not really. It is intended as second-line Dakka-delivery-device - a veritable sky-broom. If you want a no-fly zone enforced, you put one or several Rifleman mechs there. Problem solved.

A dread probably doesn't hold up to a battletech mech.
They're smaller and much slower. A Telemon could probably do okay, but any conventional dread is just kinda fighting out of its weight class.
The Rifleman specifically might have it rough, since it's really not meant to be flung into single combat, but, in general.

30:24 Those were my exact thoughts when i first saw the Deredeo. I mean Marines interred in Dreadnoughts are half-men at the best of times, but a Deredeo? Those sorry souls feel more akin to fully sentient servitors than a glorious Astartes given a second chance to serve humanity.
This is why they are better in the hands of Chaos space marines. This ones to not pretend that this is an honour that you give to your fellow brothers. It is a punishment and their rage will help the Iron warriors to destroy more of their ennemies.
I didn't like everything about the design at first. Likely because I was so happy about the Relic Contemptors and Leviathans.
But I have to say the DoritOreo Dreadnought is growing on me.
m'Lord Baldemort, once more into the breach of tales telling with gusto, bit like that gravy advert, with a lot of derring-do and a bit of derring don't, setting up a fantastic weekend of modelling and catching up with fellow adherents to the fun that is WH40K, thank you sire and mrs Sire too, bless you.

It's the last part the hit me Baldermort... your thoughts were my own. A true warrior, A TRUE WARRIOR... needs to have autonomy, the ability to be themselves outside of the battlefield. A Deredeo cannot... and my heart feels pain.

This really shows how effective the traiter astartes were during the heresy and scouring. after the loyalists were ambushed on istvaan they had to sacrifice their best and brightest or just throw bodies at the problem in desperation just to keep the imperium alive.

Honestly, in regards to the Deredo, the things that upsettle Balde are amusingly precisely the same sorts of things that had (some) Princeps jumping at chance to be permanently interred in their Titans.
The closeness to their weapons of war, the direct, unmitigated feeling of power -- the ability to reach out, and make things die, and all the delicious glee that instills.
There are two kinds of people, I suppose. Makes you wonder what ratio of Deredeos went traitor!

I remember a trip to Warhammer World in 2017. I bought a Deredeo for my Blood Angels army. I painted him red, initially planned to do a blue helmet /headpiece but ended up going with gold. I named him Brother Artileros Kaboomael and he was my favourite. When I stopped playing, he went to a good home and wreaks The Emperor's explosive judgement upon xenos and heretic alike to this day upon the tabletop. I miss you, Brother Kaboomael.
Can't decide whether to add this new mk 3 box set to my sons of horus or start a new army. Decisions, decisions...

I have little doubt that my thoughts on our uncle baldermort is not unique to me.. We worry sometimes.. Rejuvenation pods are still hundreds of years ahead in the future but in recent times you've pushed yourself, unnecessarily so, to keep your gentle listeners entertained.. We will understand if you take leave for a few weeks or even months to recuperate, for it is not doubted that you are much older than most of your audience, good sir.. Please take the time to rest, to replenish, to heal.. For we, all of us, very much would like to see you around for years to come..
Considering Baldermorts perspective the Deredeo is also an Orks worst nightmare, no choppa and can't even pick up more dakka? Meta/modelwise it just makes me think of a Battletech Rifleman.
