Started shooting film a year ago with a Point and Shoot. I bought my first SLR this year and your videos are much help. I’m just waiting for my films to arrive and I’ll start shooting with my Canon AE-1. Hoping for good results!
Depth of Field is actual a combination of Aperture + Focal Length + Subject distance. While aperture is the easiest way to change this, it's not just for "changing depth of field." DoF change is a byproduct of aperture change but there is much more going on.
I always found it confusing when people said things like f/8 is a higher fstop than f/2.8 but is also smaller…. it wasn’t until I realized that the number is a DENOMINATOR that it made sense to me. The f-stop is a fraction and anything with a bigger denominator is going to be smaller.

I have a growing interest in 8mm and Super 8 movie format as well, so there are many many things to learn from you. Congratulations for what you do Noah!!
I always found this subject confusing as it seems backwards to me. Since I use a fully automatic film camera (canon rebel 2000) all I need to do is adjust the ISO and the camera does the rest. But when I got an old 120 TLR the ISO is no longer the control point, its the shutter and apiture that controls the amount of light which hits the film. Even though I know most of what he is saying I find he is one of the few on RUclips that seems to really know what he is taking about!
Yeah I always get this confused too because I also find that it seems like it's backwards. I learned it in a photography class in high school but barely understood it. I use point and shoots now but was thinking of getting an slr but this stuff is still confusing lol

I recently bought this film camera (Nikon F65) and set the aperture to the max on my lens (22), however the camera asks me on its little screen to set an aperture value, should I set the same value as I did on the lens? Thanks!
I have a zenit-b with a helios -44 55mm lens. With my aperture choices it seems that the smaller the number the wider the iris and the larger the number the smaller the iris. Do you possibly know why?
HELP! So, if I want to get a picture with very shallow depth of field, I would have to get the right aperture and shutter speed for a proper exposure first, then put my shutter speed up how ever many stops I put my aperture down? I think I got it down but wow is it confusing.
Hi I have a Pentax k 1000 and when my camera didn’t have film, i noticed that my iris didn’t change when I changed aperture? What does this mean? I see the iris when I take a photo, but that’s it
It will only change when you actually take the picture! The aperture stays fully open so you can have the brightest viewfinder for composing and focusing. Sounds like your camera is functioning normally.
hello! you can try clicking on the settings. when you click the video (on your phone), there will be a screw/bolt/wheel type of icon and you can click on it. you can then select the playback speed and select 0.75 or 0.50 for the video to go slower. hope this helps!

I put a lead sheet 1/32 thick over the lens and still had 70% come through. They put out Gamma. Cuts through DNA.

Help! I don't think my lens is working properly. I think the lens is stuck, my iris doesn't open/close as you demonstrated in 1:35. any suggestions?
are your f stops also stuck as well or dragging behind when you try to move them?

Check if you have a stopped down lever, if you do press it in and you should be able to do it

I'm 48 but it's too fast for me too. I'm just repeating it and pausing it a lot so I can take stuff in. Maybe try that.
