WHICH DISH do you want to try the most?
If I could have one of them right now, I'd probably go for the Mackerel Sushi. Simple, but bloody delicious. Since filming this video, I've found myself ordering it every time I go for sushi.

Abroad in Japan I usually order mackerel sushi when I go out for sushi, but mind you, I don't live in Japan so it's not nearly as quality as that looks.
That being said, I would probably try the ramen, because come on... butter and curry in a delicious pork ramen? I have to.
But it does look a bit like obesity in a bowl.

Wow! I was born in the Aomori!
I'm so happy that a foreigner introduce my hometown!
Surely, the Aomori is harsh place to live. But there is the Aomori's ramen noodles which everyone can't eat except here.
By all means, please come to Aomori prefecture if you come to Japan.

Watching this again, I think back to when I first watched this, and where I was at in my life. Feeling so hungry, and so broke that I couldn't really afford any food other than potatoes and mushrooms, or occasionally ground pork if it was on sale, I remember crying at how good that food looked.
Feeling incredibly grateful that I survived that time and am in a much better place now.

Seeing that giant market made me think; more than going out to eat in Japan, I would probably buy some quality ingredients and just learn to cook an array of dishes while I'm there, since I love to cook anyway.
That way, when I go home, I can eat most of them again, within reason (because I don't live next to the sea, so a variety of fresh fish is hard to come by).
Anyway, thanks for introducing us to more delicious looking Japanese food. Now I'm going to go eat some cereal, I guess...

Hi! Just came from your TED video and subscribed to this channel right away!
What "nokke" actually means here is "putting-on-top" coming from the verb "nokke-ru", which is the casual version of "nose-ru" meaning "to put on top".
So you can nokke-ru whatever you like on top of the rice bowl, just as you perfectly explained!
I love your positive attitude towards "the cultural differences" in your vlogs, and the contents seem to be quite useful even for the native Japanese viewers like me!

There was a similar "tea house" in Flying Witch, like the European styled one in the park. If I recall correctly it took place somewhere in Aomori. Does anybody know if it is a coincidence?

    • @Rock_Surfer
      @Rock_Surfer 7 лет назад +5

Can't be a conincidence, they're practically identical. Maybe it even has a invisable spooky kawaii waitress ^_^

Lots of snow, fish, wheat, apples, garlic and Japanese garden with house that resembles quite a lot those old "villas" found in Fenno-Scandia. I may have just found my favourite place in Japan ^^ Justice Delicious from this chef out of Finland!

I went through that area last October. Loved every minute. I tried the Tuna while in Aomori City. So delicious! One food in here in Aomori that I would recommend is the Barayaki. Had that near Lake Towada. It was beef ribs with onions with a sweet and spicy soy sauce.

I think the "nokke" of nokkedon refers to "nokkeru", meaning to place something on top of something. Not that I knew, I just happened to have looked for it in a dictionary, because I tried to read the explanation of the voucher system. tangorin.com/general/nokke
By the way, I would love to see more steady shots of restaurant menus, Chris! Great video as always, thanks!

    Dear Chris,
I have watched your videos so much that I learned how to nail the English accent. I also learned how to beat box from your other video, but it was from this EXACT video that I learned the accent. I love British accents, and am also a big fan of Michael Caine. I am not being sarcastic although I can be (seriously not being sarcastic), but just wanted to say I enjoy your videos and hope you keep making more lol.
    Sincerely,
    A regular viewer

Oh my black garlic is not a special type of garlic it is black because of a long fermentation process. It is a preparation method, though here they are using a tasteful garlic type found in Aomori that's it. I have heard lots of people believing black garlic grows just like that 🤣
