tip for bleaching: use industrial strength/hospital grade bleach, 100 parts bleach, on a dry shirt. i tried regular dollar store bleach on a damp jacket (stonewash look) and while it did lighten the fabric, the effects were washed out and nowhere near as strong as the vibrant white i was looking for.
It stops the colour from fading, maybe there’s more it does but I think that’s the main thing. You can get a bag from Amazon or bake baking soda on high (hence soda “ash”) I haven’t tried that myself though.

Can you use different products for soda ash? Like i see that Arm and Hammer Soda Wash comes up when searching.
im using arm & hammer soda wash too 😅
You can either use soda wash or you can bake baking soda @ 400° to turn it into soda ash. 1 cup baked baking soda to one gallon water.
Yh what the rustic farm said
This is the first video I have seen where a shirt is soaked in soda ash for 24 hours all other videos say 20 minutes
yeah we soaked it for 24hrs so the pH level will increase and u will get a vibrant result :)

I'm skeptical using bleach for stars. Looks great, but long term I'd be worried about the stars becoming holes.
After you’re done making the bleach stars you soak it in a water and peroxide mixture which neutralizes the bleach.
it will not, just put 70% bleach 30% water

How much is the right amount of soda ash??
1 cup per gallon of water. And if you keep it in a lidded plastic bucket, you can use it again and again for white shirts.
