In their Netflix documentary Jennie said "People are seeing that this isn't just K-Pop, they see us as doing something new, and I really like that." I think that BLACKPINK is transitioning into something different, perhaps World Music or just Pop without the "K", it's nice to see them breaking out of the "K-Pop" label that Westerners usually have a distinct image of in their heads (I was one of them).
I've been saying the same thing for some time now, I take the k from -pop and I literally call it pop, and the proof of this is the international repercussion that they are having more and more.
@Rhaenyra You're hearing something different than what I'm saying. I'm saying that they are appealing to a much larger percentage of mainstream Westerners because of their music. I know what K-Pop is and has always been, but the average Westerner doesn't, and normally equates it with an image of TWICE, not BIGBANG. The usage of much more English than other K-Pop artists as well as multiple full English songs puts them in a uniquely different spot than any other K-Pop artist has been before. I'm not saying that other K-Pop artists aren't big in the West, I'm just saying that they're a different enough mix of both cultures to consider them unique.

I love Lisa's vocal, she's so talented
Lisa shocked me a lot with her vocals in this album. I also loved the versatility of Jennie and Rosé's voices. However for me, Jisoo shined a lot on most of the tracks specially in The Happiest Girl. I also noticed her improvements and versatility as she tried new singing styles. Her vocals also blended well with whatever was the genre of the songs in the album. Even on this track, Tally, I loved how she sounded when she sang her parts differently from how she normally sings😭❤️

Doing 1, this week 2, Blackpink videos is going to give you guys at least 3 years worth of content. You got their covers, solos, live, and other songs you've yet to hear but you really should want some of their other content that shows you who they are. Videos where you learn how Lisa and Jennie are Boss Bitches on stage but turn into dorks off of it, you see how Rosé is so musically gifted and can tell you more with her eyes than most people can with talking, and you see how Jisoo is not only looking out for the girls but is legit one of the funniest people you will ever see.

This song was so devastatingly great with just their voices and piano. It's expansive on their part to even try to tackle this one.
Shed a tear the first time I heard this song. Slightly emotional, again, while watching your reaction. Thank you. The girls did a cover of a Miguel song, "Sure Thing". I think this is worth checking out. They performed this song to a Korean audience shortly after their debut. The performance would show their monstrous talent even before they became globally famous.

I stumbled upon Blackpink about a year ago. They are each uniquely talented and each uniquely beautiful. They are gracious, sweet and not skanky. I am a 57 year old blink lol. U know i would like to recommend u guys to attend their World Tour concert thats happening now until next year..im not kidding, in mv they are the popstars but in concerts, they are the rockstars...when i say rock i really mean live band in Blackpink's concert, ya'll gonna love it.
From 2nd release folk pop ballad STAY (released same day as Playing With Fire) to sorta ballady festival song HOPE NOT (off KTL) to the best song of 2020 ballady YOU NEVER KNOW the closer of THE ALBUM...yeah I pretty much knew they were heading toward being capable of this.
The biggest surprise was LISA vocals on the "smooth pop of a bottle top" line (she's more known for doing higher cuter vocals when singing -- like her duet cover with Rosé of Nat King Cole's L.O.V.E) and Jisoo's falsetto "I can stop the tears if I want to", the 2 parts of the song that hit me most.
THE HAPPIEST GIRL is my favorite song of 2022, even over BLACKPINK Shut Down and Pink Venom, PURPLE KISS b-sides melancholy CURSOR and upbeat OH MY GOSH, FROMIS_9 smooth R&B b-sides REWIND and ESCAPE ROOM, and BILLLIE great R&B b-side B'RAVE ~ a song for Matilda (all these b-side songs have performance or live clip videos), Also take THG over recent title tracks with music videos from my 2nd 3rd 4th favorite Kpop groups: PURPLE KISS titles NERDY and MEMEM, BILLLIE rock song RING MA BELL, and FROMIS_9 hit DM. You might want to check out some of those songs mentioned above.
BLINK since early 2017 when I got back into Kpop and discovered BLACKPINK when there were only 4 songs (former lowkey fan circa 2000 of a few 1st Gen female artists like Baby V.O.X -- 배신 Betrayal is the best 1st gen song IMO, soloist BoA, and S.E.S -- lazy SM label already licensing and remaking western songs).

One of their early songs was "Stay" which is also an emotional one. They've done this sort of song all along the way. One of my favorites is "Hope Not" because it looks at a break-up from a different angle, like "Happiest Girl" does. I like your reactions, but I'm not confessing to you guys - nice try. ;)

Great reaction Kyle and Eric. I was a little unsure on how you would react to this one but, I am very pleased you listened to it. As it shows a totally different if you like vulnerable side. But one thing it does highlight very loudly, is how well they all work together as a group. Lisa was the biggest surprise in this song for me. She normally has that commanding style of voice and especially in her raps. Here we get the sheer power and emotion in her voice. As we do in all their voices but moreso so in Lisa's. There is so many more I could recommend, but I am sure you already have a big list compiled of upcoming ones to look at. An interesting fact you may not know. Jisoo could have very easily not been in this group. She was offered a position in Red Velvet but turned it down to be in Blackpink. The Blackpink members are friends with a few of the girls in the other groups eg Twice, Melody Day and especially Red Velvet.

Not just growing as artists. They are in their mid-late 20s now. I don't know their personal stories, but I doubt these lyrics would have meant much five years earlier in their lives.
Nothing they do will surprise me. They are so extensively trained and so talented.

"Go Team!" - I had a good laugh at that. Thanks for checking this song out. If you want another 'slower', emotional song, "You Never Know" is amazing (no M/V, only fan made lyric videos). I'm still very excited for you two to check out the group Stray Kids' song "Gods Menu". I wish I had thought to suggest "Up All Night" by them earlier, since it is Halloween themed (though it only has 4 of the 8 members in it). Eventually we'll get there, because I've no doubt you're going to love their music.
You never know is also a ballad talking about their lives as idols, it's really meaningful

You should definitely check out Lovesick Girls next! There’s an M/V and it’s also deep / different from other songs (but also fun). Playing With Fire M/V is another good one that follows that same theme.
Also Stay M/V which is from 2016 (they always throw in a ballad during each era).
