I always felt Cal's personality being milder and his lacking some confidence made sense storywise in FO. After all, Cal has essentially been alone in hiding dealing with trauma, always looking over his shoulder, and keeping his head down to avoid capture for 5 years. He seems like a deer caught in headlights when he's first taken aboard the Mantis. So it was nice in the first game to see him slowly open up and be more vulnerable around the others as he began dealing with the PTSD and guilt Order 66 caused. You see his personality slowly develop and after 5 years of being a Jedi Knight out in the field, his personality starts to shine through at the beginning of and during Survivor.

The problem I have with Survivor's planets compared to Fallen Order is that it just feels like the entire story is bouncing back and forth from Koboh to it's moon whereas in Fallen Order, you're travelling from planet to planet across the galaxy. I don't know why they couldn't just make each of Koboh's distinct areas different planets - Koboh is the outpost and Raiders' base, High Republic stuff on another planet, swamp on another planet, etc. Then it would have felt more varied. Id love to see them scale 3 or 4 planets equally in size to have the best of both worlds when it comes to how many planets we can visit, and how much time we spend on those planets. I dont think its probable, but i think it would be super neat to have a infamous like morality system, with skill trees for both dark, and light side abilities. Maybe we could keep the same stances from survivor, but rather instead of stances, add combat styles. Idk how that would work but it seems like a decent idea. I would also like to see more human based enemies with more variaties. Im not the biggest fan of fighting creatures. I can’t believe you gave the planets point to survivor, when I saw that as a category I assumed it was put on the list purely because fallen order needed more points to make it closer.
Firstly, you forgot the Haxian Brood base thing so Fallen Order’s numbers are that much better. Secondly, not all planets are created equally. Survivor may have 6 explorable planets, but only 2 of them really feel like fleshed out planets while Coruscant, the shattered moon, and the imperial base (forget the name) feel like smaller half-worlds, and Tanalorr is just a hallway to a boss arena with literally nothing else to do. Fallen Order has at least 3 fleshed out planets (maybe 4 but I can’t decide if Bogano would be a half-world) which are all very visually distinct, unlike the desert planet and the arid planet of survivor. Tbf there’s some decent visual variety on Koboh itself, but I just wish they would’ve put less time into making Koboh massive and varied to make other interesting locations instead.
Fallen order also had way better placement of the planets throughout the story, because you got see quite a bit of each planet, and just as one was starting to overstay it’s welcome you go to a new planet and stop going to the old one. I don’t think you go to any planet more than twice (maybe Bogano 3 times?). Survivor is just about one planet really with some other supporting locations, and it gets really disappointing to go back to Koboh every other level when there’s a whole galaxy of cool planets to explore. You go to Koboh 5 separate times and sometimes for multiple consecutive missions before leaving.
Also on a side note I personally thought Coruscant was a missed opportunity cause I initially thought there was no way they made all those assets for the planet that looked so cool just for the tutorial level. I was almost certain I’d go back for the story and possibly end the game there because it’s such an important location. But then the game just started focusing on a planet that initially felt like a pitstop for the kind of story I was hoping for. I’m not mad at the story we got because I certainly enjoyed it, but it probably could’ve been cooler if it had more to do with the empire and involved more unique, fleshed out planets imo.

    For me personally:
    Fallen Order -
    - Performance (I’ve had a couple glitches here and there on Survivor, even after all the patches, kinda obvs to have it here)
    - Story (maybe I’m just a simple guy but I liked Fallen Orders story more. Don’t get me wrong, I loved Survivors story, but if I wanted to replay any of these for just the story alone, it’d be Fallen Order)
    - Planets (I think I liked the fact that each planet was a complete different biome and, despite the problems mapping around Zeffo, I just liked exploring these planets more. If Survivor had more planets, maybe something Lush or Snowy, just to contrast with the other planets, then maybe I’d give this point to Survivor)
    Survivor -
    - Characters (No brainer really. Really enjoyed each of the Mantis Crew this game, everyone just had that bit more of depth added to them and each just even more likeable as before. Then you’ve got the side characters of Skoova, Turgle, Ashe, Caij, the high republic droid, the chiss dude, each one of them and more are just so interesting and I’m always excited to interact with them to find out more about them. Only issue for me is I wish we explore more of the villains in this game. The politician at the start, maybe cos he was marketed a lot, I thought he’d be of more importance but🤷🏼‍♂️ Feel like Dagan also could’ve been explored more other than having an unhealthy obsession. Kinda wish we didn’t have to kill Rayvis and just leave him free and have him maybe ally us in the future, but gotta respect his culture. Bode I feel is the best of the villains. And we still learn more of him even after the boss battle so that’s kinda cool too.)
    - Gameplay (Also a no brainer, altho, maybe it’s an unpopular opinion, but I do miss the tombs. Those puzzles were challenging and kinda fun. The High Republic vaults don’t really live up to that for me. But one thing that really sold me on Survivor having this point, is some of the traversal skills. ESPECIALLY, Merrins gadget thing that allows you to travel through the green barriers. Man was that act on Jedha with the giant droid so much fun to do! Genuinely my favourite part of the game. And the high republic gadget was fun to use, the animals were fun to travel with, and ofc the combat is phenomenal, my favourite being the dual wield.)
    - Progression (Yeah I like both, but Survivor improves on what Fallen Order had)
    - Customisation (Again, no brainer here, being able to customise practically everything is a very good feature! Just a shame we couldn’t upgrade the Stinger Mantis aswell. Strange decision to remove that tbh lol)
    Overall -
    Fallen Order 3-4 Survivor
Very close matchup! Excited to see how the third game will compare to this! (hopefully an improvement on all fronts, but that might be difficult in some sections considering how good they are now)

It may sound wired but it's not a fair comparison as Survivor is built on top of Fallen Order. And with that being said, you expect of course the sequel to be better but my experience with Survivor although it was very fun and more immersive , Fallen Order was smoother in gameplay, almost bug free, and though not as big as Survivor, it was deeper, darker. In conclusion I would say, judging both of them as stand alone games, they are the same overall as an experience, a cool experience of course.

Jedi Fallen Order was a fantastic game, but Jedi Survivor did absolutely everything better. I played on PS5 and had no issues other than random crashes every once in a while. But this is nothing new for games on day 1-2. Especially with 10 hour sessions. So I'm not holding that against it.
If they can do to the 3rd game like the 2nd game did to the first game, then we'll probably get the greatest Star Wars game ever made. Beating Kotor and the likes. Either way, fantastic additions to the Star Wars universe.

Egh, I disagree on the 'struggling with the Darkside' being an improvement on Cal. It's done to death in Star Wars and happens so bloody often that it's a wonder the Jedi Order lasted 5 minutes, much less thousands of years. Also, if they want Cal going completely over the edge to the Darkside for a while to be a thing in the next game, then I don't see a convincing way for them to do it that doesn't involve killing Merrin. Which will suck.

One thing i don't like about the reviews of jedi survivors story is the hate on dagan and the point they miss with bode, i mention bode cuz you can tell people didn't 100% the game or play after the end credits. Iff you explore after that you literally find all bode's echo's and understand how conflicted and almost persuaded by cal he was at almost every single turn they were together. Even when he asked cal "if the empire attacks, will you protect my little girl?" Cal had no response for that. As for Dagan, how the hell do people look at Rayvis and go yeah high and mighty guy has a code then look at Dagan and don't see him as the same elitist who lost everything with no chance to grieve, had a plan, got turned down then he takes matters to his own hands and gets betrayed by the love of his life and instantly trapped for centuries reliving those same moments over and over in his head but nah he's just a cry baby to everyone that does these damn videos

Although I liked Fallen Order, I felt this was some sort of "obvious" game. When I was 14, one day I played both Bloodborne and the Force Unleashed on a row... And after a while I had this crazy idea of having a soulsborne game about a rougue Jedi fighting against the empire. I even created my very own control scheme (which I'm currently using in Survivor) and it played pretty much the same. I even had the idea of including a force time-shift mechanic, similar to the one used by Spiderman 2099 in the Edge of Time video-game.
It was obvious that all of this mechanics could work on a force user SW game, and Fallen Order's story wasn't that interesting to me. On the other hand, although Survivor is more of the same, everything felt darker and way bigger on scale. I loved the idea of bringing a High Republic Jedi to the imperial era (like somo sort Captain America). It felt better than another story of another Jedi that survived the order 66 and now is keeping a low life in order to survive.

I’m eagerly waiting for Jedi 3, (wall of text incoming)
Really loved the first one, it’s characters, story, and just everything about it felt like a genuine adventure, gow and that game had a similar mysticism and unique atmosphere to them that made them so immersive, and I just loved the fact that the Star Wars aspects was done so well for it too
Survivor introduced so many awesome concepts and features, multiple lightsaber stances, way bigger open world like planets, non linear side content that feels rich but also very quantitative, graphics and textures were all great, and for some reason I’m having a brain fart and can’t remember the rest of the things that they pushed forward with, but I love how they genuinely tried something new and are pushing the games DNA forward and not just rehashing it
However I have a huge problem with this game, and that’s that mainly the gameplay itself is very lackluster. Now some may disagree, and that’s fine but let me say this, I’m a huge combat and gameplay guy, don’t want to be full of myself but I’d say I’m farely competent when it comes to understanding and using great combat systems, and Jedi survivor has insane POTENTIAL but it’s just not being used great.
The idea of a Jedi, with 5 interlocked lightsaber styles, unique force abilites to weave into basic combat, a blaster on top of that, with cool unique gadgets and a droid, as well as tapping into the dark side a bit has so much gameplay potential that I feel what we got instead were ridgid, sloppy animations and no animation canceling for all stances, very limited abilites and we can’t use all stances together, enemy design that by themselves is good, but when paired with even one other enemy it’s just not really enjoyable and quite honestly unfair at times, and your force powers feel like they can only be used by themselves with one or two genuinely creative combos, where as it would’ve been cool if they were more integrated and weaved into base combat fluidly instead of some clunky controls that put a stake in your flow.
Overall I think the combat needs to try to stray away a bit from its “souls like” nature, I think that aspect should be reserved mainly for enemy design, but player agency and control should lean more towards fluid, fast paced and combo based combat mechanics such as god of war or something like that, and maybe taking a page from battlefront 2, as I think the light saber animations, fluidity, quick pacing, and visual flare would be so good for this game I’ve always liked the idea of mixing multiple genres into one gameplay system, as if done properly could be amazing but I feel like they did it poorly here. I’d just like to know that I fan enjoy everything the game has to offer, while knowing that the combat itself is also superb and let’s me feel like I’m in control and it’s super creative and fluid with a plethora of abilites and options to choose from
That’s why I’m excited for Jedi 3, as good as stig asmussen was, I think the gameplay was a detriment to the series overall, so hopefully with new leadership that changes and most of the aspects of this series is a lot stronger (note: I also would love for them to expand on the galaxy aspect of this series, letting us visit more planets, some bigger than others but I’m not an idiot and I understand that’s a Tremendous ask as somethjng like that would take an abundance of time, budget, and technical issues that might not even be worth the trouble, I guess I just have this itch of piloting a space ship and visiting these iconic planets on a whim)
Also I have to say, originally I thought survivors story was pretty bad, but while I still go this day think FO’s is better, I’ve grown to really appreciate survivors story, I think I would have liked it better if they handled certain characters and events better such as dagan gera, bodes betrayal, the overall pacing should’ve been a lot longer, and I wish we visited more diverse planets because they all kinda felt the same and it felt like I kept constantly revisiting kobo and jedha. I’m a sucker for cool concepts and themes, especially betrayal, old history meeting new history, struggling between light and dark etc, so it’s a shame that the end result was decent but underwhelming.
I genuinely think they set up some very interesting things for the third game, raising a daughter of your former freind turned backstabber, either having to protect or abandon tanalor, dealing with ceres death and the death of his crew, his flirting with the dark side that occasionally sways his judgement, and the fact that darth vader and the empire are breathing down his neck more than ever, and that’s not including any curveball they could throw at us like how they did with the high republic (which I thought was an awesome concept, a warrior from the past, fighting so hard for a better future only to see that future be a repetition of the same kind of war he just fought to bring peace, but I think they fumbled that a little but oh well I guess)
