Thomas has opened restaurant after restaurant in places like Miami, Charlotte, Baltimore and Atlanta. However, business might not be booming the way he claims it is. His “Sports One Bar & Lounge'' in Charlotte shut down with over $237,000 in unpaid taxes, his Baltimore restaurant has been empty for months following employees refusing to work due to non-payment, and now the Department of Labor is stepping in after things took a turn for the worse at his Bar One Miami location as well. This place was ridiculously expensive. Charge $12 for Coronas, mean and rude staff (which I now understand), and slow service. Peter would just sit there and let all this happen without taking control. I've seen Peter just sit there and watch.

No, you cannot keep gratuities as a restaurant owner in Maryland and not pay the staff. In Maryland, gratuities are considered wages and must be paid to the employees who earned them. This is the law regardless of whether the gratuities are automatic or discretionary.
The only exception to this rule is if the gratuities are used to pay for a tip pool, which is a shared pool of tips that is distributed to all employees who worked on a particular service. However, even in this case, the restaurant owner cannot keep any of the tips for themselves.

The appropriate agency to contact is Dept of Labor. BBB would be contacted if a customer has an issue with the business operation.
If he isn't paying employee wages, he also not paying FICA tax which is money withheld from wages and remitted to IRS for social security, Medicare etc. Many employers use this money for personal use (put back into the business). When you retire the funds are not there and the taxpaying public has to make up for it.

This is sad. I really like going to this spot. The last time I went was in February 2023 and the food was not as good as it was some years ago. We waited for over an hour for our food while Peter was walking around the restaurant holding a baby SMH. If all this is true, he will have his day coming because you reap what you sow.
