I picked up a set of those microphones a while back. They're not horrible, especially at that price. My only issue is finding a good placement where my beard doesn't scratch on them and make nasty noises.
@@JulianIlett Ahh,... When I said "set" I meant one receiver and one transmitter. It seems to record equally on both stereo channels. I would assume with a second microphone, it would simply mix them together.
Utterly irrelevant colours as options is one of the things I've kind of gotten used to. A minor nuisance compared to the bait and dwitch ads showing something in the photo for a very good price, and then as one clicks the options it turns out that the low price is for an adapter, short USB cable, keyring chain, or similar while the item shown is significantly more. And of course the ones thst compensate a low price with the shipping cost, so the listing looks more attractive. I guess they're just reusing some list of options, instead of typing in dome actual descriptive options.
this practice always guaranteed the Aliexpress experience would be an unusable chaos and complete waste of time. The problem is that all those sellers have figured out how to do the same thing on eBay and now that's a complete mess as well...
@@GannDolph i wouldn't call it a _complete_ waste of time (as I do but a fair amount of stuff there), but it sure makes it take more effort than would be needed if it was all clear/open/honest...
@@GannDolph That can work to your advantage sometimes. I've got several metal halide headlamp & ballast kits for $1.98 a piece because their pricing algorithm devalued a certain style of headlamp socket.

Type 2 generally lock into place on one side typically the top, the other "ports" are just to allow flexability of the final installation, the servo drive is a bulky item that the end user (manufacturer) would fit themselves, I would say that is more a replacement part where you would just fit your existing servo, functianally it is not needed as you say its just to prevent cable theft.
If you have a decent metal vice, those terminals for the socket can be soldered. I recommend not pre tinning the leads, only flux prior to putting the large connectors in and using a plumber's technique of wicking the solder in. It can work and be safe if you can get enough bare wire into them ( bottom of the pin ) prior to the soldering. As to crimping, you may be able to use a pin punch if the pins can come out of the socket.
I soldered my Type 2 socket for my home brew with no issue, you do need a decent Soldering Iron though. Type 2 can be bought from UK suppliers for around £55-£65
If these Boost/Buck converters were more integrated, Such as as a nifty case for it and it was manufactured that way I'd be glad to see what options there are.
Great to watch a mailbag video! Do you reckon the 12v adapter would start a motorbike if there wasn’t enough ooomph in the battery? Really tempted to try it
Ali have always used colours instead of options. This has been the standard for Ali pretty well forever and is nothing to do with the colour of the item. Unfortunately in this case you did order the wrong one. The description likely has the details.
for chinese that dont fully understand english, colour and option seem to mean the same thing. so therefore that we all need to understand that colour often just MEANS option.
Oh man, I was wondering when you switched to iPhone until you realized the wrong one was sent. Also, I just learned the word 'swizz', and I thank you for that.
I just bought a similar USB PD to 12 barrel plug in cable form, but from PiHut. Works well and replaced the somewhat dodgy looking power adapter for the small PC that I purchased for use as a router (it has 4 2.5gbps ethernet ports).

There is an exploded view on the microphone sales page, why bother opening it? It shows there it has a 60mAh battery in it. But good promotion, I went and bought one too. The right 'color' as I need USB C. Did you ever come across a buck converter which accepts over 100 Volt DC? Or 200? Not that i need them, but they could be used on my solar panels, for in case the grid goes down. I have 3 arrays, ranging from 120 to 230 Volt DC. (in MPPT mode that is, so without load it would be a fifth higher).
Think you got ripped off with that EV connector... they sent you a completely different one to what was pictured - different flap, different connectors, and only one locking pin mount-point... no wonder it's no longer available! 😆
Will be really interested in the review of that boost converter, is it a buck converter, too? Glad you're doing postbags, again. 👍
This is the first video of yours RUclips has put on my front page for quite a while. Good to see you're still around and (hopefully) well!

Same here, haven't had a recommendation in months !
I set my RUclips bookmark to my subscriptions, that way I don't have to worry about their shenanigans :)

question for Julian, when you used the boost to 120vdc, what was the output current capability and what was the input voltage? thanks?

Awesome :)
The photograph of the unit you picked out has 5 of the power pins so it is a 3-phase socket
The one you got is a single phase

Look forward to the buck boost video 👍

For the microphones just use a lightning to USB C adapter.

hmm, thermoset "polymer", not thermoplastic ('cause that means very flexible when overheated) right?
Why didn't you get a duel charger lead with the microphones?
It's only the sound during the listings on the laptop that is bad, ie, muddy and quiet.

No, the highest input voltage on a buck converter I've found is 75V.
