Fan, I commend you for being patient for the last 6 years being second to Ma Long to finally win the World Championships. Now go out and get the gold medal in Paris 2024 and you’ll be a Grand Slam Champion! Or get 2023 Worlds and 2028 LA Olympic gold alongside 2024 and you’ll be a Double Grand Slam Champion like Ma Long! The 2020s belong to you just like the 2010s belonged to Ma Long.
Hopefully, Mr. Fan Zhendong will not disappoint us. But the Chinese national coaches' decision to freeze Ma Long was completely stupid. I was hoping to see Fan Zhendong beat up the old man in the final. I believe there are many TT fans have the same desire to see that happening. All but crushed by the Chinese national coaches. As a TT fan, I feel like I am being cheated. Whatever!

这小莫子的球撞击多，摩擦少，所以旋转不强，很容易被挡回去，属搏杀式打法，相持对拉能力很差。搏顺手了就会吓死对方，可惜对手是樊振东。所以他的球如同撞墙，力量有多大，反击就有多快。不过他才十九岁，未来会有很大成长空间，有点象当年老瓦，还是应找老瓦当教练吧，好好打磨一下细节和技术。
就像上届的Falck一样，瑞典小将其实并不具备亚军实力，只是世乒赛安排的乱而已。

How is the draw decided really?
Putting one CHN player in one side of the draw in Zhou QiHao(WR 122), and four others on the other side (Liang Jing Kun (WR: 9), Lin Gao Yuan (WR: 6), Wang Chu Qin (WR:14) and Fan Zhen Dong(WR:1)).
In the end Fan ZD beat Wang CQ in the 16s, Lin GY in the quarters and Liang JK in the semis. Was this final a reflection of the state of TT in the world right now?

@@nshon7 Seeding would give the seeded players an unfair advantage with easier match-ups, thereby giving them extremely higher chances of it being an all china semi-final with little surprises. The only way to reduce this chance is by introducing randomness in the mix. You could say that Timo had the best draw this time but got injured in the quarter finals and played less than 100% due to his stomach injury. Fan is definitely the best player as he defeated all 3 chinese players and would have eaten Boll for breakfast even if he was 100% fit.
yes it is... the same pattern in WTTC 2019. Fan and Ma were in the same half, played each other in Semis. They know China cant be beaten. So,,,

What a fantastic tournament for the swedish team, just an outstanding performance in Houston.
This is by far a most one-sided championship match in world table tennis history. It is just like a Adult vs kids and Professional vs Armature. In another word, Truls is still not qualified for a silver medal. His overall techniques are subpar to many professional players. Many top players such as liam, Ugo, LJK, WCQ,,, can beat him 4:0 without any problems. If he were in China, his rating should be in the mid of age 17 to 19 group. His major problem is the weak backhand. I can see FZD attacked his backhand from the beginning and he can not do much. I don't think he can replicate Waldner's legend and this Tournament may already be the peak of his whole career.
Totally agree. This guy was the luckiest finalist in WTTC history may be. But its not his fault. The draws were not entirely fair. This was the most one sided final i ever saw in WTTC, I have been following Table Tennis for almost 20 years.

@@beluga3607 Moregard plays a 90s style with focus on serving, return ball and trickery. Chinese fans really dig this style. We hope he come to train in China asap before he develops bad habits and tendencies in euro league.

I realize advertisers and sponsors bring in money, but sometimes you need to realize that short term money is nothing compared to what is good for our beloved sport of table tennis. I'm so happy for Xiao Pang! He has been preparing for this moment for a long time and he's well deserved the win. His style has evolved from pure power and fierce attacks to precise controls and more versatile (in order to beat Ma Long😄) now there are so many players playing like Fan a few years ago but now he has come to a new level! Big congrats and enjoy the winning and be safe!

Finally, Fan is standing on top of the Table Tennis world. This World Singles Championship was flirting with Fan Zhendong for the past 6 years. I am so glad for Fan that he finally win this elusive trophy.
This Swedish teen Truls Moregard played very well. It is not like that he was blown away. The score was tight in every game. Truls needs to figure out how to do better in the last few points of a set.
Well, those few points are actually the hardest part for Western players to overcome Chinese. Look at the Olympic or many tournaments before, many games they lost by only a few points, we see that we know that but eventually they can do nothing because the Chinese will figure Truls out even before Truls get better.

Huge credit to Truls. A world ranked #77 19 year old, few people, if any, would’ve thought you could reach the MS final. If you work a bit more on your mental game, sky is the limit.
The draw was extremely unfair. The Chinese were in 1 pool - Fan, Lin, and Liang.
The 2 highest-ranking players in the tournament Fan and Lin meeting in the quarterfinals is mindless and absurd.
If Lin or Liang were in the other pool, Moregard wouldn't have reached the final. It would have been a Chinese final
@@shoas4333 You really need to learn more about the selection and ranking rules. It's not about you or what you want, it's about a selection system that takes into account individual performance over time. Do your homework. It's not that hard. Maybe then it will be worth listening to you
@@oneredfish2046 Shoa S is correct. The no. 1 and 2 seeds in the tournament should not be meeting in the QFs, that is quite frankly unacceptable. Seedings are designed so that better players are not situated against each other too soon in the tournament which would allow low ranked and less skilled players to progress further, undeservedly. It is basic tournament logic - Truls had a walk in the park in his draw. Why did the no. 1 seed have to go through 3 other top seeds in his path to the finals?
@@dodoweirdo What are you talking about? Harimoto was the #2 seed and he was in the opposite half of the draw. The draw was made fairly, but it just turned out to be unlucky for the Chinese that nearly all of them ended up in the same half. That's why there is a phrase, "luck of the draw". There is always an element of randomness in any proper draw.

Truls Moregard will be a lot better in 4-5 more years. He won Silver at cadet level for two consecutive years, Silver at the 2017 and 2019 World Junior Championship, and Gold at the 2019 European Junior Championship. One day, Truls might be in top 10 of the world.

Truls went to the final without beating any one of Chinese players. So yes, he was not tested enough.

Fan was behind a few points in three games so he had to fight harder than I thougt against Truls.....I think his teammates would have had big problems to overcome Truls because they are not as good and smart playing as Fan!

@@dlw3747 CCP could as well send WCQ to some remote “labor camp” for “reeducation” ))) not doing the same things as CCP is doing does not imply any inferiority. Whatever Chinese TT authorities are doing with their players is their own matter unless they violate basic human rights of their players. There are rules in TT and players should be penalized for breaking them and their misbehavior according to those rules and not by some arbitrary punishment.

Could have been more exciting if all lin, liang ang wang qualified for the semi finals. This truls behavior and and performance is far from championship level. Fan zhen dong jusy toyed the kid who could have thrown his weird paddle again.

One of the most ideal is the right phrase. I have been a huge fan of Fan Zhendong since he appeared in international competitions. I am so happy for Fan winning this world championship. But a twist to what you said, Ma Long is the ideal shakehand player.

@@benthekeeshond545 Ma Long is King of table tennis. He is the most ideal table tennis player in history, but i don't think he plays "an ideal shakehand game." His biggest strength is his serves, tactics and forehand attacks. He plays his own style of table tennis and he is the best at it
I think Zhang Jike, Fan Zhendong are more of a textbook players of shakehanders than Ma Long. Ma long is more of a, "god of table tennis" than an "ideal shakehand player"

After seeing the line up, so many people start asking for a ticket refund, want to quit table tennis forever , no Ma Long no table tennis bla bla bla. In China is even worst. The coaches are being criticized and cursed to lose the gold medal for not allowing Ma Long to play.
Totally agree with you mate, I don't even get the conspiracies between yappering fangirls suggesting Ma Long was mistreated and all. I am female myself, I don't find team China's line up ever "shitty". Zhou Qihao is the shabbiest of the group but he didn't lose to some random person, that's Timo Magic Boll. So many years of international tournaments down his belt, aint a shame at all losing to the German legend. The unlucky draw was what contributed to the lost of the lower quarters, it had nothing to do with coaches being douches to their players. Just goes to show fangirling and sportsmanship often does NOT go well...
Rather than raving on FZD's so called and pretty much expected (in the absence of the GOAT) performance, let'us focus on incredible path of a true legend of this sport, Timo Boll, semi-finalist at 40 years old...

Its very unfair draw for China. FZD, LGY, LJK, WCQ - 4 best Chinese players in one half! What, are you serious??? Truls is very good, but...one month ago, he played WCQ and it was 0:3 without any chance for him! If somebody remember, how the last European champion won wttc? Shlager, there were no questions to him, 2 of 3 best Chinese players was defeated! How many Chinese players were defeated by Truls and Falck on the previous wttc? 0!🤦♂️
They used world ranking. Check the seeded players on truls half of draw.

World ranking only decides player seeding, but grouping (who goes to which group) can be arbitrarily decided if it isn't randomly drawn.

Even if it was not the most intense final, Truls run was amazing. Of course he broke my heart with beating Timo Boll (I am german) but he deserved it. Some people didnt like his behaviour but to be fair, showing such mental strength trough the 2nd round to the final is more than respectable. He was 2 matchpoints down against Franziska and 0 3 against Lim Jonghoon. So congrats on that. And this tournament showed, that only Ma Long was the guy to stop Fan Zhendong. No one was really challenging Fan Zhendong in this tournament. I think most of us expected him to win and he did in a very dominant way.
Truls is gonna be a competitior real soon to China
It is nice to see new talents. But with the draw of this and the last WTTC, his run was not that impressive. We would still gonna end up with an all chinese final has the good players distributed more evenly in both brackets. Young talents in the previous tournaments didn't have a good opportunity to make a run to the Final like Moregard. Harimoto couldn't beat Xu Xin in quarter final when he was even able to beat Timo Boll back in 2017 or even the 17 yrs old FZD was beaten by Ma Long in 2015 semi final. WTT needs to change the way this tournament draw out. This isn't fair.

Boll is always a respectable and delightful player, Ma Long made all effort in all aspect to thw finest and paid off, Fan is the king in this period, Trul has infinite potential to be the next. i am a chinese.
I would have preferred a final between Fan and Timo, too bad he was carrying injury.
On the other hand, very happy to see the emergence of Moregard. He plays with a 90s style with a big focus on the serving, returns and trickery mind games, which fits his nick name waldner junior. I totally enjoyed watching his matches, except the throwing racket and lashing out part.
Honestly speaking, as of now, Moregard is not enough to challenge any Chinese player of his age yet. For instance, Wang Chuqin (2 years older) beat him 4:0 in their last match.
To realize the potential , Moregard should go train in China and play the Chinese super league as soon as possible. China will happily welcome him as the apprentice of Waldner and Pearson, our old friends.

China welcomes ANY player to train with us and almost all the top players already have, including Timo, Ito, Ishikawa, Diaz and even Waldner.
For the super league, most teams have foreign players, be it for box office reason or the friendship factor. Of course they don’t get a starting position immediately, but as the season goes on they all get their fair share of play time, and thus gaining the experience not available anywhere else.
I do agree Moregard is not at the level yet and was quite lucky to be in this final. My point is that he should come to China as soon as possible in order to realize his full potential. Would be sad to see him developing bad habits and tendencies from the euro league.
Also, never underestimate our respect for Waldner. He is a long time arch enemy and a true friend. If he makes the request for Moregard we will gladly do him a favor. I believe nobody wants to see a new Waldner more than Swedish and Chinese.

The sad thing is the kid didn't even properly make the finals, very weak draw. Best player he played was injured. At least he should be considered top 20 but I think all the Chinese players excluding the lowest ranked will beat him quite easily. Fan didn't even play at 2nd gear, just made the kid beat himself.
At least harimoto and LYJ were on his half, what more could he do than to beat the next guy?

yes, unfair and messy draw,,, even in 2019 it was a similar draw. Both Falck and Truls didnt deserve to be in the finals. Not the fault of Truls. Organizers need to think before making such rubbish draws.

Truls moregard isnt in the top 10, beating him means nothing.
That this Swedish player has reached the final is cheating, all the Chinese players were in the same part of the table eliminating each other, Truls has not had to play against any of them, even so it has merit because it is 77th in the world.
Harimoto and Lin Yun-Ju were on bottom half but were eliminated. The Chinese need to send players with better ranking if they want to aoid "unlucky draws". The draws are not based on nationality.

Fan Zhendong eliminated all other Chinese players to play the final against #77, are you kidding me??? That bracket was so obviously weighed against China and Asian players in general. I guess the idea is to give a better chance to other countries? Well tough luck! We are not going to get as good as the Chinese if we get handed easier games. I mean, look at the players Kanak Jha faced. He would have had no chance in a more competitive bracket. Even an injured Timo Boll beat him.

I like Moregard's style, but he doesn't have the maturity to beat FZD at this point. If he relocates to practice in China, like Waldner did when he was young, he can grow up to be world number one.
