It's so funny to see you guys doing this. I did this in 1971 and in 1972. I had a 64 Galaxie 500 XL and the last engine I had in it was a 406 Interceptor in it. Had solid lifters, 3/4 Isky cam, medium rise 4 barrel intake with a 780 Holley double pumper, dual exhaust from factory headers. Three speed on the floor, positraction with 3.23 gears. It was baaaaad, to the bone.
Nothing better than dealing with the last persons shenanigans. Also, just started watching this channel after finding the f100 header install. You've given me inspiration for my 85 f150 with a 302. Great channel!
Imagine the car painted the same color again with tinted windows and wheels painted black again with tires with white lettering and some nice exhaust tips coming out like the f100 what y’all think???? I think yes🔥💯💯
So happy to come across these videos. I just bought my first classic american over here in the UK. Its a 64 galaxie sedan with a 390 that has a rear main seal gone. so seeing bits of how you pulled this motor have given me a clearer idea of how to go about pulling mine. keep up the galaxie videos!
I'm fixing to pull the 289 out of my 64 galaxie fastback I'm doing a budget-friendly rebuild on the motor because some idiot drove that car into the ground and it runs but it needs to be rebuilt if you get what I mean
Guys were talking about the transmission being over full. Little helpful tip...The torque converter on early C4 transmissions can drain back into the pan and cause it to over fill. My mustang does this if it sits for more than a week. Couple fixes...drive it more frequently or install the retrofit check valve. Or may favorite option, install a toploader 4 speed🤘🤘
Damn man, seeing you getting go on this has me so pumped for mine. Doing a whole brake conversion and 5 speed manual swap in mine. Gonna be a lot of work but I'm excited to get it done and can't wait to see how yours turns out. Gonna be bad af
Looks great! I'm tearing down a 1970 302 that came in a '93 Ranger project that was never finished. Same problem....crank turns, but not cam. Easy fix! Looking forward to seeing this one fire up!! Go boy!
While you are down to a short block pull the pan and check the bearings. If cylinders look bad hone it n put some rings in it. It’s easier to do it now that later
Hey Craig couple of things just drill the timing chain cover threw that pad for the front dip stick, and when you get the heads off, if that is an '86 it will have flat top pistons and kidda unique heads, '86s were one year only, also remember the 50 oz imbalance so ck the flex plate and balancer.
Since motor is out spray the engine bay white it serves 2 purposes 1 looks super clean inside and showy but 2 you can find things easier it’s going to be brighter in there and as well if something goes wrong say like a oil leak you can see exactly where it’s spraying at
I know it has already been said but a car that weighs 3700 lbs definitely needs the additional torque that a 351W or FE can provide. In the late 50's when Ford and Chevy increased the weight of their cars by 300 lbs or so, they also increased their engine displacement by at least 50 cubic inches from 292/283 to 352 and 348 respectively. The 352/360 are the forgotten FE's but you're more likely to locate a good one on the cheap as opposed to a 390. If you can fined a good 390 or 428 reasonably priced that would be the way to go.
I'm stoked that the motor maybe quickie rebuild! Still would have preferred a 64' period 352/390 engine build... And yes it has the 351/302 HO timing order:)
HO High Output motor. They run real good my bosses son had one in his truck I couldnt out run it with my 360. I looked it up Conservatively rated at 235 HP (was actually around 265 FWHP).
Awesome dude!! Btw I heard that galaxies from the 60s have problems with rusting frame since Ford build it lightweight for NASCAR is that true? How's yours?
I’ve been working on a truck myself. I got the seized engine unseized, but I can’t find a good guide on how to check the oil pressure. The truck itself (1963 c1000 with a 305 v6) doesn’t have a gauge for it and I’m a noob when it comes to this stuff. I just don’t want to starve it for no reason and be reassured it’s working perfectly. Any help is appreciated lol
If you have have valve covers off check and see if the valve train is getting oil if so it probably has some oil pressure. It just have a oil light? Unscrew that sending unit out of the motor and oil should squirt from there also.
Brandon Floyd hmm ok I’ll see if it has that. I have the valve covers off. Not even sure what warning lights it has. Maybe if I find the part online I can verify which one is the sending unit. I was hoping to do a test with a gauge to check exactly, and maybe set up one in the truck so I’m not driving not knowing how my engine is doing.
Frigglebiscuit yeah we did that but when it ran it sounded like a pretty bad knock and it was blowing smoke everywhere. Guess I’m looking for a 350 now but I’m still keeping the 305 in mind. Might open it up and go through it.
Just FYI, if your going to pull the engine, the 1st I would do is remove the hood, makes it much easier to get to everything that you need to remove to pull it,
Hey Craig its chad here just watched the video of you pull out the engine in the Galaxy and you said the dipstick is in the wrong place I like the oil pan is on backwards please check like to know what you think?
I need buddies like you... " you guys do all the work while I film and laugh at you " lol I've been looking forward to more content from you... can't wait to see the new chassis for the F100
I love that 64 ford Galaxie ! I was 3 when those cars were brand new! And I could have bought one for $ 200.00 bucks in high school/1978 292 8 and a 3 speed on the tree!
Those are stock HO mustang valve covers 83-85... 86 would have aero style valve covers. 85 first year for roller cam. Will front sump timing cover work with reverse rotation water pump? Alignment pin in cam? Hope valves arent bent. 96 explorer gt40 heads or 97-01 gt40p heads. Hope engine is an easy fix
so keen to buy a galaxie...putting at trip to the states together now cannot wait to do a mad road trip .....love seeing your one come together...from Australia
909 rep!!! I'm lovers in corona f0r a few years.. Now I'm back in Michigan. I love the area and the people. Everybody is nice. Not like here in Detroit.
Can you still work on your vehicles there? Maybe you could explain what is going on because California is the reason emissions is so strict were I live.
I couldn't stand it if it were me. I would have to hunt down a 390 and a 4spd to put in it and start from there. Even if it took me another year to do it. I have 3 65 Galaxies. Two, two-door hardtops and one convertible. The convertible is a 390 4spd car. Somebody stuck a 360 auto in it. It took 5 years after I restored the car to find the right 390 with a Toploader 4spd. After rebuilding both engine and trans, it was like driving a different car. Cars are an expensive hobby. If you are willing to do the grunt work you can save yourself lots of money.
Not going to be happy with that 302... that small block is just not going to have enough umph... FE blocks aren't easy to come by but you're in California somebody's got to have one somewhere
To bad I was hoping you would put a 390 fe and a c6 auto and bring it back to original.
My old 64 Galaxie 500 took me 6 years to restore and now I I win cars shows left and right! She is a good old girl! 390 with a cruise-o-matic and A/C.
Honestly, thank you for some of the best car enthusiasts/car vlog videos on RUclips.

On Feb 2 2021, I'm here to see all there is to see on the 1964 Ford Galaxie 500, what a beauty.
I've been wondering where all f 150 front grills disappeared too. I know where they went 😂
I got a 76 grill for 75 bucks, no dings. I made the mistake of leaving it in my driveway, I about beat someone to death when they tried to nab it.
So happy to come across these videos. I just bought my first classic american over here in the UK.

The HO 302 has a different timing order than a regular 302

Also remember to plug the old dip stick hole on the side with like a 5/16 bolt so it won't leak.

You should put a FE in it. Particularly a 390.
Stoked for you man..
LOVE those old Fords..
Enjoying my 67 every day..
Satin black for the engine bay and a double reservoir master cylinder. Excited for this car build.
I second the double res master cylinder.

Looking forward to seeing the work on your Galaxy. Thank you for sharing.
Great to see some content on the car again, need more car vids for sure! Any updates coming on your buddy with the power wagon you were helping with??
I'm in the process of rebuilding the 69 302 that's in my 67 Mustang. Haven't got to drive the car since March
Glad to see ya back its been a while love the truck and the car hope to see alot more videos ... and as always keep up the great work

only if they have been on salted roads or driven on a beach, mine looks perfect after 54 years
Soon you will be on the road can’t wait to see this done glad your painting the engine bay should paint the motor to maybe a ford red or ford blue?
That car needs a FE block in it
I'm glad to see a young man care about keeping an old from the scrap yard an I see you have got a lot of free labor I'm mean "FRIENDS " lol😁🤣🤣
Go BIG block! Big car Big tork.
Be for you rip out the wiring harnesses look to see if it’s a painless harness. If it is it would be worth keeping

buy a cheapo oil pressure gauge and screw it into the oil pressure sending unit.

I swear by PB blaster. The only way I’ve gotten off a bunch of bolts
Cant wait to see the build on Galaxy, I love that car!!!
You should use it on the door hinges on the galaxy
Those are truck heads different retainers on exhaust valves then intake old truck stuff
I hope that cam gear is an easy fix. Cant wait to see more progress.
Nice car, plenty of potential, look forward to the next update.
It'll be interesting to see what happened with the timing chain with it appearing to be such a fresh motor...
Very nice Galaxy project, i love to see this project.

May you be ripping up the streets soon luv this car luv this channel!
Welcome back lol I want to see the truck frame
Really dig this car
Yes!!
With all those loose bolts it wouldn't surprise me if the timing gear bolts didn't fall out.
Can you still work on your vehicles there? Maybe you could explain what is going on because California is the reason emissions is so strict were I live.
Anyone else looking to see a big block Ford swap in the Galaxie or is it just me?
Yep - needs @ minimum a 390FE. What is under the hood now?
@@eurocarman a common 302 I believe Craig said in the first or second video of getting the Galaxie

Hell yeah Craig!
So been waiting for this video
What’s the song when you take the cover of the galaxy off?
Like idea of using the same engine was rebuilt already. Lower budget is more interesting.
cant wait I own one as a kid
Nice videos! Keep up the good work!
You don't need motor mounts.
looking good
Buy 1.7 roller rockers and hydrulic roller lifters and a good cam and double roller timing chain
Looks sweet. Love the Galaxie.
But please.... fix. the. camera. focus.
What song did you play during the video I love it
I hope you can fix her.
Good video keep it up 🤘🏼
Man wish I was sponsored by pb blaster
You said you just suspension parts coming please tell me you are not turning it into a lowrider
I like it!
Needs a 390 FE
Reminds me of me 45 years ago...
