How a MAS 49/56 works

- The MAS-49 arrived after a series of small, distinct design improvements. Today, this might be termed spiral development, where small elements are changed with successive models, rather than large significant changes. This French semi-automatic rifle evolved from the prototype MAS-38/39 and from the MAS-40, and lastly from the post-war MAS-44 and its minor variants 44A, 44B and 44C. Although 50,000 MAS-44 rifles were ordered in January 1945, only 6,200 were delivered to the Marine Nationale. The MAS-49 was formally adopted by the French Army in July 1949.

Beautiful design. Looks quite simple in operation.
True direct gas impingement. Simple as it gets for a gas operated semiauto. The AR is a hybrid DI piston gun which you can see in comparison to this.
@@bobrobert319 In the AR15 and AR10, the bolt is held within the bolt carrier and gas is directed in between the two to unlock the bolt. The gas goes through the gas key into the chamber that is sealed off by the bolt gas rings, and it pushes the bolt carrier rearward which cams the bolt and rotates it to unlock. The AR design acts like a piston gun where the piston is actually the bolt itself. It's not direct impingement as you see with the MAS 49/56. It's not exactly like an AKM either; it's a hybrid DI piston system. Stoner put all of the piston and bolt mass in one line and allowed it to recoil straight back into the shooter's shoulder. The result is one of the most controllable and comfortable rifles ever designed. When the AR was modified later on to become the M16, it produced one of the most controllable and stable assault rifles ever produced with fully automatic fire able to be directed very accurately.
Watch this video for a more in depth explanation with animations and demonstrations. :) It's really good.

thank you for these videos! i got a .308 conversion of one of these rifles, and they were very useful with replacing the gas cutoff and taking the grenade sight off
I got one and i love it. I just need more ammo for it.
Perfect!!! 👍🏼
De base il devait sortir en 1940 sous le nom de MAS 40 mais les allemands ont attaqué quelques mois trop tôt. En plus on aurait pus les repousser grâce à la cadence de tir ultra rapide du fusil
👌👌👌🙏❤🙏 Mas M14 🤜👊🤛
Hi there
can you make a video of the MGV 176?
Plus communément appelé FSA.
Questo fucile mi piace molto
👍

🤝🤲👉💝
Where’s the white flag attachment?
You are greatly mitaken in using that old steriotype. French fought hard and bravely.
Павел Сергеев tell that to Poland, France could have taken most of Germany while preoccupied with the invasion.
Joke or not ? 😂
@@Paul_Sergeyevi think you mean the poor mercenaries moroccans and algerians in vanguard lines who fought hard and bravely for a dirty colonialist offender state
Well the British were going to be siding with the Nazis originally, would you say the same about them?
😨😨😨This gun was plagiated from Soviet SVT-40...
Stylistically probably, but not mechanically.
hahahahaha...no
