Can we appreciate that in the cutscene of meeting Godfrey, we can see that he has the guidance of grace pointing towards the tarnished, showing that he is the tarnished Hoarah Loux and we are the boss in his way.
It's such an epic detail, and also shows that we are puppets of the Greater Will if we listen to the guidance of grace. It doesn't care who takes place as consort, just that someone worthy does. What I don't understand is why the Grace points him to us, yet won't let anyone in until the tree is burned? It seems counterintuitive
@@LSB44446 the exact entity blocking you from entering the tree is actually radagon, as seen by his unique cross pattern rune design on the tree's seal blocking entry. The bigger question is why does Radagon, a devotee of the golden order not follow it's direction and instead choose to block you out?
@@markiekunplays I read this theory that Marika split off the part of her which is unconditionally loyal to the elden ring and that became radagon. That's why radagon tries to repair the ring after Marika destroys it, and when you confront Marika he takes over to fight you. Also explains why he seduced rennala and left her suddenly.
@@ligmafigma9631 yeah but the thing is we know that the greater will itself actually wants us to get there to possibly mend the ring and become elden lord, which means that if radagon was completely loyal to the greater will, he would heed its wishes and allow us in to mend it especially after we had just shown we are worthy after fighting Godfrey, another worthy of becoming elden lord.
@@markiekunplays Its Marika who wants us to become elden lord and and free her from her captivity. That is why all the cool shit is Marika statues and Churches of Marika and guidance of grace. Two fingers, Elden beast etc. has lost contact with greater will, its no longer there doing anything.
Just wanted to mention that Rhadhans feet weren’t Rotted away, but instead they were slowly carved away by the amount of time he spent dragging them in the desert.
Radahn is the most tragic yet wholesome characters in this game. Spent years of his life to learn gravity magic, first to still be able to ride on his horse and as a secondary effect protecting the world from the horrors of the stars. Protecting us and his horse even after his corruption from rot turned him into a monstrous beast, only to lose control of the stars when he falls in battle for the very last time, A beautiful gigachad giving us a new definition of never giving up.
Radahn invaded Lyndell, you know. The most important place in the lands between and failed then started attacking his siblings for great runes which means he valued power over family. Do not think he is innocent for a second.
@@ChangedCauseYT-HateFoxNames not only that but he literally hasn't done ANYTHING to help Renalla and her condition, unlike her two other kids. And even worse? He valued his allegiance to the Golden Order and the Greater Will more than his own family and and the things vital to their faith and dynasty - Renalla and her astrological ancestors were guided by the stars and their movement is quite literally responsible for their fate. So by halting their movement, he pretty much left his family unable to follow their destiny, leading to stagnation. He is just an ignorant, self absorbed, blindly faithful fool that was just lucky enough to be born to two demigods/gods.
We need a time traveling dlc where we go back and interact with the Lands Between in its prime! Imagine seeing all the demigods in their prime, a live and well Marika and Radagon, Ranni before she left her body, Meeting Godwyn before the assassination, Radahn when he was learning gravity magic for his horse, and having the ability to side with whoever you wanted! Obviously wishful thinking on my part but I just want to see the Lands Between in its prime
That would be amazing, but it always seems that Fromsoftware has their stories take place after some major event, maybe one day we'll get to see a story or even a boss in their prime!
@@ZeeVoke Yeah that’s true, it takes place after everything has happened which is part of the way they feed us lore but man it would be nice to interact with prime lands between and become a part of the lore lol
I dont think that gonna happened, because the world of ER is massive and its gonna take a lot of time and effort in doin so,but that would be pretty cool if that how the dlc turned out.
Yeah, no chance FromSoft would make that kind of game. It'd be even less likely that it'd go well since FromSoft are great at world-building but don't have too much practice and player interactive dialogue. Perhaps something like a telltale spinoff could explore that?
it even says this in his remembrance "Though born one of the graceless Omen, Morgott took it upon himself to become the Erdtree's protector. He loved not in return, for he was never loved, but nevertheless, love it he did." His story's pretty sad ngl
The entire family is so tragic, even Marika. She shattered the Elden Ring because she was angered with the Greater Will in the end, and her sending Godfrey away might have already been a sign of that since SHE took his grace, not necessarily the Greater Will. Her first son is murdered, her second and third Omen children were cast out (we don't know if she chose to cast them out or if it was part of the Greater Will and contributed to her anger against it). Radagon, who is part of her regardless of how they started, fell in love and had children, and he had to leave Rennala for Marika, and it's unknown whether either of the two halves of them actually wanted this. Clearly he loved Rennala, even gifted her a Great Rune (which is no small thing since it gives her such power over the world). Marika made their children demigods, whether out of necessity or whether she shared the feelings of love that Radagon had for their children, it's unknown. Then every single one of those demigods fell to ruin too, except maybe Ranni. Rykard for (justifiably) being against the Greater Will, Radahn for fighting his sister FOR the Greater Will. And then you get Miquella and Malenia, both of whom were cursed from the start. Miquella wanted to make a new and fairer world but was kidnapped by his brother Mohg before he could complete his own Haligtree, and Malenia was left alone to rot away. I guess it's not that strange they saw misfortune though. The fact that Radagon made VOWS in the Church of vows to honour Rennala then abandoned her... like the wise turtle pope said, breaking vows can lead to misfortune. And not only did Radagon break his vow to Rennala, before that Marika seems to have broken her vow to Godfrey.
@@tinnasell4161 it's unknown. Everyone has their own theories and mine have changed over time. They were definitely separate in mind and motivation at certain points, especially because Marika wanted to destroy the Elden Ring and Radagon wanted to repair it. Three major theories are 1) Radagon was separate from Marika until they got married and fused 2) Radagon and Marika have always been the same person and hiding it, but the Greater Will mind controlled one or both of them at certain points (to explain their differences in views) 3) Radagon separated from Marika / was made from her somehow (think Adam and Eve and the rib) and was his own person for a while but when he was called back by the Greater Will he had to re-fuse to her, but because they were so distinct the fusing was imperfect
@@mrrd4444 I imagine it was number three cause Miquella and Malenia can be seen as the IRL effects an incestual breeding can have on children. Miquella=stunted growth and Malenia=weak or non-existent immune system.
@@nenshoufox forgive me if I’m mistaken but I don’t think it was malenia’s immune system that failed, wasn’t whe cursed by an outer god or smth? I’m pretty sure that’s why she wears pure gold armor since pure gold is supposed to stop the meddling of outer gods and that’s why it slowed down the rot spreading through her. Also her 2nd phase wouldn’t be a thing if it was just a disease.
Ranni has blue hair which is distinctively different from both Radagon/Marika and Rennala so I think she might be born from something else entirely, My theory is the Moon itself gave birth to her through Rennala's body which explains why she has a deeper connection with it than anybody.
The name Margit is actually clever imo. Morgott was known as the veiled king, and a cut NPC's dialogue hints that no one actually ever sees their leader Morgott. He was able to freely fight on the frontlines as Margit and it didnt matter if people saw him with that moniker, because no one ever saw Morgott.
I hate fighting Godfrey. I realize it's necessary to advance the plot but he and his son Morgott are such incredibly sympathetic characters I wish we all could've been bros instead. And that's to say nothing of Radahn....
@@talkingmudcrab718 I KNOW, RIGHT?! Morgott seems like the kinda guy you could reason with. Like, screw becoming Elden Lord. I don't want none of that. I just want to be bros.
I'd want this, maybe as a capital soldier under Morgot's command. Since Morgot is the one who seems to have intel on everyone, you get to explore the everything again with the tasks he gives. Or maybe as Gideon.
I would LOVE that but it'd only work as a short $20 addon/dlc imo. I don't think there's any way they could change the map and bosses enough to both follow lore and make it fun to play without it just being younger versions of the same bosses
@@Heroo01 I wouldn't doubt they could do it. Younger versions of the same bosses could be present, but that doesn't have to mean that they are the ones you'd fight. It could be entirely different areas, or versions of some of the same ones we passed. Like imagine Caelid not rotting. Farum Azula not crumbling. Godrick... not grafted, lol, etc. Hmm, I'd at least like these things as an intro to something else. Probably won't happen, but it could work, and I'd love it. @mohammad saleem Well they also don't do open world, yet here we are.
I’d also like the mention that I personally believe Mohg didn’t steal Miquella during the Malenia and Radahn fight. I think she started the fight because she thought Radahn had stolen Miquella. This is why she fights him in the Caelid Dunes because it’s one level above where Miquella is actually being held, in Mohogywn Palace.
In my opinion, Malenia went to Caelid to fight Radahn since he was dangerous to Miquella's plans of a land free of the influence of Outer Gods. Radahn was a huge fanboy of the Golden Order and wanted to become Elden Lord (he even besieged Leyndell) so he had to be eliminated, which also explains why Malenia, an honourable swordswoman, resorted to ultra AIDS to make sure Radahn would either die or become "inactive".
@@filippogrimaldi7228 There is also the fact that Radahn holding the stars in place was interfering with the growth of the haligtree, which seems like the most likely motive to me
@Callus Linde The reason why she's still hanging around the Halligtree, is because she still doesn't know that Miquella isn't actually there and was stolen away to Mohgwyn Palace.
@@filippogrimaldi7228 He was repelled from the Capital by Morgott and returned to his domain. We don't know if he was as devoted to the Golden Order like his father was due to him abandoning Rennala. But he worshipped Godfrey. It makes me wonder how he felt about Godfrey being driven from the Lands Between.
I just really love how every major boss in this game is a shadow of their former self, with half the Demi-gods driven insane in some way or another. Even Marika and Radagon had a brutal fall from grace. The Lands Between are so ruthless and it’s a big reason I love the lore of this game. Everything feels so tragic.
That's most of the Fromsoft games. Always a consistent thematic of a once great champions and heroes falling to ruin, their dominions crumbled and dilapidated. One exception to this is Bloodborne, which depicts a regular world corrupted by a rotten lust for knowledge, if I've understood the story correctly.
Out of everyone in this story Finlay is mad underrated he walked from caelid all the way to the Haligtree (which for us player is the farthest distance to travel) which he walked while carrying malenia and fighting of enemies on the way. Mad respect (you can get him as an spirit summon too)
Some additional lore for ranni: she gives dialogue during her quest saying she’s no longer an empyrean after casting away her body and blaidd was gifted to her by the two fingers as her shadow (just like marika and maliketh) when she abandoned the two fingers blaidd stayed with her and the baleful shadow is an assassin created by the two fingers. Only the three empyreans can succeed marika: ranni, melania, and miquella. Empyreans are chosen vassal by the two fingers. (Ranni also said that)
but then, who is Miquella's and Melania's shadows? or are they both each other shadows? Tho aren't wolves supposed to be shadows? I don't remember any wolves related to them
@@loonzoldick that is a very good question 🤔 wish I had an answer. I don’t remember anything in the game even referencing a shadow for them. Hopefully we get answers lol
@@loonzoldick In my humble opinion I think they left to their own quests before even getting one. For example, Malenia and her sword master and Miquella with the unalloyed gold. There's a mention that Radagon gave Miquella an incantion as a gift, but since it would not anything to cure his sister, Miquella left the Golden Order in search for a cure to his sister. Also, at the cutscene before fighting Morgott he says "all willful traitors", or something like that. Miquella and Malenia are included lol. Wish we could know more
@@loonzoldick I subconsciously feel like since Ranni had to "ascend" to become demi god but the twins were born god's, Rot and Eternal youth maybe possibly the same thing in a sense? Like outer gods beat the greater will to it
When Malenia spread her scarlet rot on to Rhadan, the mist spread all of Caelid that's why its rotten and decaying. You can confirm this with and NPC soul beside a grace over looking place.
The information about Godfrey is a bit unclear imo. It should say that he's always been Hoarah Loux, but took upon the name of Godfrey when he became the First Elden Lord and cast his vengeful animal spirit on his back. Also, the "sparks in his eyes fading" refers to Grace leaving him.
@@thisisfyne it was because he no longer served any purpose, the enemies of the erdtree were defeated. She wanted him and the tarnished to go to a far off land, struggle, and eventually die. You can see at the start Godfrey dead and crucified, but he was resurrected and given back grace just like the player character. So yeah he was most likely was exiled in favor of Radagon after he served his purpose, only returning when he was needed again.
@@Warigami I believe you're thinking of Godwyn- the son of Godfrey and Marika. Godwyn was the one who died in the opening cinematic. In the opening, you can also see Horah Loux among all the tarnished mentioned- which makes sense, since he is the father of all Tarnished, and this was his original name becoming Godfrey. Sir Gideon Ofnir also states "Queen Marika has high hopes for us... that we continue to struggle onto eternity." It's likely that Godfrey already knew that Marika would cast him away temporarily, only to someday return stronger and reclaim the Elden Ring. Either way, Godfrey ends up still being a tool of Marika, as you stated.
@@isaach4296 I am pretty sure he is referring to the tarnished intro at the start of the game (which includes the player character) where 6 individuals were revived through being granted grace, one of which being Horoah Loux shown crucified with a hovering grace nearby, implying he was revived since the others grace-granted tarnished had pretty similar circumstances with the same hovering grace present (like Gideon who was buried).
Your presentation style and the way you explain the lore is way more entertaining than the "other big lore guy" (without calling out any names). You earned my sub and have a new fan.
Me too. I just figured it's the higher god, the Greater Will, decided to give the middle finger to the other gods in a fit of pique and sent the dominoes rolling which is why Ranni wanted to leave and make her own path.
Cleanrot Finlay’s story is so goated imagine walking from Caelid to the Haligtree carrying someone who is constantly emitting a fatal poison and fighting everything along the way one handed. Truly a hero…
The thing about feeding maliketh the death root is that the death root is the rune of death after the black knives were done with it. It spread out and popped out as deathroot
I don't believe that the Grace "left" Godfrey. Going by some of the things said by Melena, it sound more like Marika took the Grace from him and "banished" him because she knew something was going to happen and she wanted him and his followers to be kind of a back up plan if things in the Lands Between went nuts(which they did).
Not mentioned in this video Renalla was the queen of the Full Moon, thus the Full Moon in the sky. Ranni was the Dark Moon in the sky, both visible from the last area of Ranni's quest. Ranni's attire was inspired by a sort of mentor when she was younger, and Blaidd is to Ranni as Maliketh is to Marika, a shadow to the Empyrean born under the golden order. One detail not made clear is at what point the sun might be involved with anything, as we see it is even conceptualized and recognized into the game. We see ghosts reference the sun, and even Dung Eater's armor reference the sun in relations to an order he supposedly once believed in, further expressed symbolism in the rings of it in the description.
There is castle Sol which is a whole big reference to the sun. What I find more interesting is how Sellen fits into all of this. Sellen is just another name for Selena - the greek goddess of the moon. In FromSoft games there is nothing like a coincidence.
@@RobOngrui that's actually where the ghost references the sun I mentioned. He mentioned they couldn't block out the sun for Miquella. For whatever reason they might've wanted to. Considering the Haligtree was supposed to be an Erdtree of not the golden order, idk if that implies the sun belongs to the Golden Order or not.
The Sun brings true death. The Frenzied Flame ending is basically the power of the sun conceptualised on earth. If we take Rannis power as the moon, her opposite half, Malenia would be the power of the sun as the Gloam eyed Queen. All her followers, the godskin would use black fire and have fire as their power. Makes sense that the Dung eater references the sun since it has the power to burn everything and is the opposite to the moon. The fact that the Erd tree burns only with the power of the rune of death, there must be some sort of connection there.
I'd say most symbolism with the sun isn't really there is because the Erdtree kinda acts as the sun instead, at least thematically. Irl, most cultures that worship the sun or gods related to the sun worship it in similar ways to the inhabitants of the lands between do for The Erdtree and Marika.
1:56 Also Marika, it's implied that Marika was in on it, all of the Black Knife Assassins were Numen Women with close ties to Marika It's also implied Melina was involved, her moveset when you summon her to fight Morgott is identical to the Black Knife Assassins movesets and she uses the Blade of Calling which shares the same moveset and a similar Ash of War as the Black Knife Rykard was also in on it, he was given the Blasphemous Claw so he could kill Maliketh if the Plan went South
@@Hobbitbot3000 theres not really a quest as far as I know you just show up the gaol at the end of rannis quest and kill her to get black knife tiche's ashes
The fact Radahn wouldn't attack Melania until she was fully able to fight, ate a necrotic nuke & still knocked out Melania afterward is incredible to me. All while (and till his death) holding back the stars. Best character in the game for me
I have no idea what the "until she was fully able to fight" part of your comment is referencing, but Melania releasing the Scarlet Rot is what defeated Radahn, he didn't "eat it" it defeated him. He also didn't knock Melania out, she knocked herself out by blooming.
@@NottherealLucifer ??? It's literally in the animated clip? He knocks her sword arm off her body and let's her reattach it to continue the fight instead of just attacking her regardless. Also, maybe try reading what you're being told about the event next time. If the nuke defeated him (which it didnt) why is Radahn being held back by her forces while Finlay retreats with her. Pray tell, if Radahn is defeated by the nuke. How are her forces holding him back? A stacks on while he's sleeping on the ground? Oh wait. No, it's because he's still active and they died for their leaders survival. They fought to a stalemate despite Radahn clearly not using his full power, Melania got desperate. Blew up the continent and got dragged out. You can word it however you want. The facts are only one of them were forced to drastic measures by the other and only one of them were standing afterward. The only "loss" here is the price of war which they both suffered, one by being infected by rot losing his mental faculties and the other being in a coma until the player wakes her up.
Great summary of the lore. Without proper context, all this information can be confusing, but you do a great job of giving a good overview of the whole plot. Good job!
I really hate I couldn't talk to Maliketh or Rhadan. Rhadan sounds like he wouldve been pretty chill like Ranni if not for the scarlet rot. And Maliketh just wanted to help his half sister
I'd imagine Rykard was more partial to Ranni growing up, if a tad distant, sharing their distaste for the Greater Will. The quieter, older brother who you manage to always share an interest with. Radahn on the other hand, I would imagine to have been more "close" with Ranni, even if the two lead different lives. The loud and boisterous sibling who you're close with, but differ in many aspects.
Can someone tell me where it's stated that Empyreans are born from a single god? I just thought that Empyreans are chosen by the Greater Will to become Marika's successors.
It says it at some point but I can’t remember tbh.., but my guess is it has more to do with being chosen, and maybe being born of a single god (melenia and miquella were born of a single god in radagon and marika and are empyreans) automatically has you been chosen? Not sure. What I want to know and see is melenia and miquellas shadows, as we have only seen blaidd and maliketh
This is actually quite debated by the community. The description remembrance of the Rot Goddess states "Miquella and Malenia are *both the children of a single god. As such they are both Empyreans, but suffered afflictions from birth. One was cursed with eternal childhood, and the other harbored rot within." Also there is the dialogue from Gowry, Millicents Father that says: "Queen Marika and her King Consort Radagon were blessed with twin demigods, and Malenia was one of them. She was born an Empyrean, carrying the scarlet rot." As Ranni, we know her being the daughter of Radagon and Rennala she can't be an Empyrean, also we don't know the origins behind the other two Empyreans that we know about, Marika and the Dusk Eyed Queen. If you follow the logic behind the description and the dialogue someone may assume they mean *exclusively* people born from one god can be an Empyrean. That isn't stated here. It is only said they are automatically Empyreans *because* they are born from one single god. We know that every Empyrean is chosen by and Outer God (not only the Greater WIll as you've commented) but it doesn't mean that any child can be chosen to become one. The other side of the debate can also argue that Ranni was not Rennala's true daughter but Radagon gave it to her as a 'gift' in the Great Rune of the Unborn and Marika and The Dusk Eyed Queeb were both also somehow born by a single god However it could seem to be quite forced this theory. This is as far as we know and can discuss, there are no much information about it. We have to wait maybe for future DLCs
@@kira6353 Is it possible that the fact that Malenia and Miquella are born from a single god (Marika/Radagon) has nothing to do with being Empyreans at all? The wording of that item description seems like it could mean that having a single godly parent caused them to be born with their afflictions. The whole "children of a single god" thing could be referring to their afflictions, and not to their status as Empyreans.
Them being altogether a family shows where GRRM's world building is at. Definitely sounds like something he'd do Loved this, you transitioned so smoothly between each boss as well
Surprisingly, not as much as dark souls. It is actually not very deep, all things considered. Frankly, the only truly deep lore in the game has yet to be covered, and I hope the DLC wraps it up big time. The outer gods being fleshed out more, and the star lore being delved into. Without those two things, there really isn't that much going on apart from a family falling out as they try to go for power (shards) after their "mother/grandmother" shatters the elden ring in a reaction over her son's death. The entire story is just marika having told her kids to do what they want to do, but make sure you do 'something'. Then when one dies, she takes a drastic measure and leaves it up to some kind of fate. Meanwhile, all other outer gods apart from the greater will seem to be absent, at least until you force malenia into phase 2 and is seemingly used as a vessel by one (for no reason?).
When you talk about Astel you say he destroyed Nokron, he didn't he destroyed the nameless eternal city, the one by the deep roots that has no star-filled sky unlike nokron and nokstella
Radahns objective against the stars Is pretty unclear But i think that his father/Marika tasked him to do so, in order to stop the possible Anger of the GW that, we know, shoots meteors and stars against its enemies
i have always interpreted as that either he did it because he could, or that he heard rennala and ranni or ranni and rykard talking about rannis destiny and wanted to impede the age of the stars from happening being that he idolized godfrey
I think this is what it is. Similar to his brother Rykard and sister Ranni, he opposes the golden order. The golden order doesn't tolerate disobedience and punishes it harshly (as evidenced by the crucifixes with screaming burned people aloft, in the same shape as the imprisoning rune that holds Marika in the erdtree and appears to be part of the elden ring). Astel is thought to be one of the punishments dished out to Nokstella for the crime of worshipping the night (which is the same trespass that Rennala made which sparked the battle between her (raya lucaria) and Radagon (golden order)). This makes sense because when you kill Radahn, one of the stars that falls lands directly on top of Nokron (another night worshipping civilization) tearing a hole through Mistwood. Basically, the greater will is tryna throw stars at people and Radahn is protecting them even through his madness, literally so powerful that through madness he is still holding all the stars in place with gravity magic directly opposing the greater will. If he wasn't doing that, we wouldn't stand a chance against him in the fight, he's too stronk but using most of his strength to protecc. Radagon and Rennala made some wild kids, but you already know Ranni is my favorite even tho I really do like Radahn. ;) I still feel like I don't really understand why Malenia was fighting Radahn in the first place, please share if you have an idea.
@@ohokcool doesnt have any sense, nothing implyies even remotely that radhan its agains the greater will Also.astel its not confirmed to be sent by thd greater will, thats the interpretation of lots of people but there is a theory that astel was made by the nox of the nameless eternal city
@@Necrotaku999 I love how you put down his/her theory and promote another that has zero evidence to it, while his/her theory is actually pretty viable.
Falling star beasts are actually weaker versions of astel, or atleast his species. If you take a peek inside the model, you can actually see the same skull astel has slowly growing inside the fallingstar beasts.
Only reason beast clergyman is still alive is so that you don't miss out on the incants he gives you. Same thing happens with Yura so you don't miss his quest, you can find Shabriri and Yura simultaneously if you don't do Yura's quest before heading to mountaintop. It's nice that they prioritized not locking people out of content as opposed to strictly adhering to the plot, I never do things in the right order lol.
Ok it is insane how good this video essay is!! I have watched so many but they are either short individual bits in specific characters which doesn’t help with understanding how they fit into the lore ~ or it’s a dramatic retelling of item descriptions. This is very details from beginning to end and I truly appreciate the work you put into it! I plan to share it everywhere! I look forward to more of these! Maybe about some of the side bosses or NPC’s! ♥️
It's been puzzling me how Radagon and Merika are the "same person". My best theory is that when Radagon left Rennala and journey to become second lord , the elder beast transferred from Merika to Radagon using him as a new host to safeguard against Merikas soon-to-be emprisonment (presuming the Greater Will had foresight of this) within the Erd tree.... so it's not so much that Merika = Radagon , but more that everything Merika once was (curtesy of the beast/greater will) is now "one with" it's new host Radagon. Thus perhaps could tie the loose end of Radagon leaving Rennala question ...he left because he was destined to become the beasts new host and "marry" (join together/become one with) Merika to fulfill a sort of higher belief prophetic task.
This is brilliant. You explained everything so efficiently and DIRECT to the point. Other RUclipsrs will throw mountains of unnecessary speech at you, overcomplicating everything..
@@2paktolife Me too. His video was literally just random gibberish for 30+ minutes that explained squat. Just another views desperate channel that one.
What you claimed to be "Malenia's 2nd bloom" wasn't her bloom at all. The armor you pick up adjacent to that flower is the same as Millicent's, and there were several others like Millicent. The bloom prior to Malenia's fight is the bloom of one of these other girls that came prior. Malenia has yet to bloom a third time.
I'm too cowardly to play From Software games (apart from Bloodbourne, which I haven't yet finished) but I love the lore. So thank you, my friend for supplying excellent videos like this to get my teeth into as, complicated as it may be, I love the depth and intricacies involved and without superb videos as these, I'd simply have no idea what was going on!? So, once again, thank you for your hard work and research that enlighten me fully to what From is doing story wise and the minutae and subtlety of their story telling. Much love ❤
Radagon and Marika are the same entity. Radagon is the embodiment of the the faith of Marika to the Greater Will, Marika would then eventually divide herself into two entities because the golden order needed a champion to fight the Carians. It also makes sense for Marika to shatter the Elden Ring because she started having doubts about the Golden Order. Side note: Malenia and Miquella are born out of selfcest? Lol.
It would be cool if they had Miquella in a future dlc I think it has a lot of potential as there is apparently a lot of cut content including multiple questlines
Only issue really being that he would have no goal anymore. Unless his godhood allows him to bring people back from the dead (like his sister). He seemed single minded and did not appear to be altruistic apart from wanting to cure malenia. So unless his goal is to destroy the world in revenge (which would seem out of character), it wouldn't make too much sense to arbitrarily revive a powerful being like that. With that said, I honestly can't think of anything else the DLC could be anyway lol
Woah, I didn't realize this before, but Renala's rebirthed kids are the Albenaurics! Imperfect children unable to use their legs, but are highly skilled archers and beast tamers with an affinity for Magic. Though physically undermined, their intelligence and grace are incarnated from their maker. Also, have you ever seen Renala walk? Me neither. And her greatest creation, her champion Loretta, rides a horse and is the closest Renala has come to perfecting her obsession with rebirth. What a crazy cool lore that keeps on growing and what an awesome vid! Very well done and an entertaining channel
I’ve been looking for a lore video for a while and I’ve found some that are up to 8 hours long, watched them and still felt like I had no idea what they were talking about. This is by far the best lore video I’ve seen. I just want to know the lore of the characters I’m meeting not hear some wild backstory without giving me an explanation for dummies first. Great video thank you.
I hope we get to see more of the Outer Gods in whatever Elden Ring DLC comes out. Maybe even encounter and fight them like we did the manifestation of the Greater Will, manifestations of the god of the Frenzied Flame, The Blood Star, God of the Deathbirds, God of the scarlet rot seal, Dark Moon god, maybe even whatever god seems to control the rebirth of certain people within Elden ring.
Rennala battle music is so tragic I love it. It makes you feel so sad for beating her cause technically she’s just a widow who longs for Radagons return
Imagine all of them having a family reunion. Mohg And Morgott would be like "eeyy brothaa" Malenia and Radahn would glare at eachother Miquella and Ranni would play princesses Radagon/Marika and Godfrey would squabble all the time... Rykard and Rennala would just sit alone in the corner
And now we know that she also gave birth to Messmer while with Radagon, and Miquella used Mohg as a pawn to get to the Land of Shadows so he could force Radahn’s soul to join him when he ascended to Godhood.
Even though the video is focused on the *bosses,* since it deals so much with Marila's family tree, it seems incomplete without at least a mention of Melina, who straight up calls Marika her mother mother.
Other Games: "You killed their parents. You monster" Player: "Oh no. What have i become? What monster am i?" Destiny and SoulsBorne: "You killed their parents. Here's the location of their siblings" Player: "I will use his father as a weapon to kill him. Maybe his mother as well."
Since only marrying a god (marika) can produce demi gods, and when Radagon remarried with Marika after pumping out three children that will later be known as demi-gods, I got a theory that Radagon was Markia the entired time and she likely saw potential the Raya Lucari
7:00 fun fact, if you look up “prime Radahn fight” there is an unused model of astel falling from space as you fight Radahn, I highly suggest watching it It really should’ve made it into the main game…
This was an incredibly satisfying video to watch and full of amazing information. Great job on putting all this together. Can't wait to dive in and see what else you have on this channel!
A vassal is actually someone who owns land for someone else. That’s why the Elden beast is a vassal because it’s holding the land between a for the higher gods
Wow, these events really happened one after another. The shattering and the time you start the game can’t be more than a couple years Godfrey is exiled and has a Kid (conception of adoption), Radagon and Marika have kids and they are all grown(I say grown but Miquella can’t grow older, I know) by the time the shattering happens. Nepheli is still a relatively young women, and Malenia seems within the same age range as she did in the scene of her fighting Radhan I thought this was something along the lines of a hundred year gap like most stories. I like this more
I just now realized that Marika must have ripped into her own body to shatter the ring since it’s inside her.. That explains the massive chunks missing from her chest and stomach area where you can see it. How else would she have broken it? That’s brutal.
It’s crazy how the characters are deeply inflicted with rot while on the other hand there’s you curing it with a simple boluses or flame cleanse me lool 😂
You are just wrong about 1 point, Godfrey did not turn to horah loux after he became a tarnished he was horah loux from the beginning and became Godfrey to surpress his wild fighting lust and being able to marry Marika to be Elden lord. He was so strong that even his surpressed form was strong enough to win every battle. After becoming tarnished because there was no one to fight for him anymore and therefore being exiled by Marika and the greater will the fight against our game character is actually the first time that he takes of his Godfrey persona through killing the spirit lion on his back to become his old self horah loux again. That’s also why he is saying thank you to the spirit lion before taking his head off cause he was doing his „job“ for all the years surpressing him.
Me: "Radagon, I do have to ask..." Radagon: "Yes?" Me: "Does anybody in this game not share your DNA in some way or has taken it up some hole of their body?" Radagon: "...Okay, let me think for a second..."
I think we can drop the "born from a single God" part to being an Empyrean. There's plenty of evidence that's not the case and lots of other channels have covered why already. Empyrean just means you have certain qualities about you that causes you to be chosen by your own Two Fingers as a candadite for the next God, and are therefore assigned a shadow and all that other jazz. Furthermore, the bloom near the boss fight with Malenia is NOT one of hers. It's one of Millicent's sisters. Her bloom during the battle is only the 2nd. She leaves behind one like this after you kill her and go back to her boss room, but it's bigger.
The bloom near the boss fight is not from one of Millicent's sisters, they are unable to bloom according to the talisman "Rotten Winged Sword Insignia". It's not completely clear if the third bloom happens when we fight her or not.
@@GiustiNacho the incantation you get from the rememberance states she has bloomed twice. As in the past. Seems clear to me. Even if that's true about it not being Millicent related, the bloom is not Malenia's. She's been sleeping in the exact spot we find her since she was literally carried there unconscious by a Cleanrot Knight immediately after her fight with Radahn during the Shattering War. But it's heavily implied by Gowry that he's helping her (Millicent) and her sisters bloom, and if you finish her quest she says she'd rather die than turn into something she isn't, with further implications that he's done this to one before her.
@@GiustiNacho you find the attire that the valkyries wear inside the flower, the flowers seem to be part of the body, nowhere before its a flower seeing left behind, there is no flower in caelid, malenia demanifest her bloom after using it, malenia's bloom its bigger, while if you finish milicent questline she blooms into a scarlet aeonia the same exact size as the one before malenia bossroom, and malenia its still alive, the incantation description says clearly she has bloomed twice already when she blooms again she will become a true goddess, which implies she is not completely ascended yet and the talisman description its the first time i have heard using it for this argument, i feel that is more metaforical, where are they? they only appear as phantoms invading millicent, but i feel its pretty telling that when mallenia in her second phases uses the phantoms made out of butterflies they are 4 of those phantoms, like the 4 sisters that became valkyries i think gowry intended more for them, like maybe blooming more than once and becoming something similar to malenia, but when they saw they couldnt bloom, they somehow manage to merge and bloom a single scarlet aeonia and got absorbed by the rot it would have more logic that the incantation prhasing its wrong and the flower ignores all previous details that are consistent between all other blooms
@@clfoster82 i find it quite telling that if you come back to where millicent was i dont know after which one of the choices she its gone and there is a scarlet aeonia the exact same size as the one before malenia bossroom
That really annoys me... Why would her rememberance refer to her 3rd bloom not having happened yet, when it has? And I think we can assume the bloom would stay on her body til disappearing. Leaving a flower off her back on the ground makes no sense to me. I think she bloomed during Radahn's fight, and lost conciousness, possibly until we fight her. Then she blooms twice. When she blooms the third time is what I'm afraid of, see as potential DLC, and such. Like Miquella's body, and Mohg stating his Dynasty will rise as he's killed. Scary
Radagon and marika reminds me of the Anima and the animus, separate and opposite in nature yet both related to form the union 'Syzygy' - in astronomy its a conjunction or opposition, especially of the Moon with the Sun.
This video as so well made, concise and clear bro. I'm having so much fun with this game but the damn lore does my head in 😂. Seems like one big God family drama bruh

If he's not rotten to insanity he would probably be a friendly npc or even an ally
The thing is I think also could have beaten I don’t know how to spell her name
@@zef9151 Most likely he would try to kill us for our Great Runes. He was waging war against his siblings for a reason (he wanted to be Elden Lord)
I FULLY agree. Though this is not the way FromSoftware works and makes their games, it would add a lot more appeal to the game.
Yeah, no chance FromSoft would make that kind of game. It'd be even less likely that it'd go well since FromSoft are great at world-building but don't have too much practice and player interactive dialogue. Perhaps something like a telltale spinoff could explore that?
So Margot protected the Erdtree, even when his own family shackled him to the sewers? Except Godfrey, who looked sad upon his son's death.
His lore is definitely underrated. I find it so tragic that even after everything he still decides to protect the Erd Tree.
Morgott developed a Stockholm’s syndrome while Mogh responded like any normal person would (with hatred) when faced with abuse and cruelty
That's why he's more of a chad than Radahn in my opinion.
it even says this in his remembrance "Though born one of the graceless Omen, Morgott took it upon himself to become the Erdtree's protector. He loved not in return, for he was never loved, but nevertheless, love it he did."
His story's pretty sad ngl
Margot is a demihuman queen, I think you mean Morgott lol
I'm a bit confused. Did Radagon and Marika share one body the whole time or were they separate before the marriage?
@@tinnasell4161 it's unknown. Everyone has their own theories and mine have changed over time. They were definitely separate in mind and motivation at certain points, especially because Marika wanted to destroy the Elden Ring and Radagon wanted to repair it.
Three major theories are
1) Radagon was separate from Marika until they got married and fused
2) Radagon and Marika have always been the same person and hiding it, but the Greater Will mind controlled one or both of them at certain points (to explain their differences in views)
3) Radagon separated from Marika / was made from her somehow (think Adam and Eve and the rib) and was his own person for a while but when he was called back by the Greater Will he had to re-fuse to her, but because they were so distinct the fusing was imperfect
@@mrrd4444 Thank you for explaning this to me.
2:28 Ranni is an empyrean, which wasn’t born from a single god… an empyrean is a person deemed worthy by the greater will to become Marika’s successor
she is the daughter of radagon and rennala. Radagon is Marika so...
But rannala is human so she should be a Demigod
How is that determined?
Maybe ranni was born radagons amber egg
Ranni has blue hair which is distinctively different from both Radagon/Marika and Rennala so I think she might be born from something else entirely, My theory is the Moon itself gave birth to her through Rennala's body which explains why she has a deeper connection with it than anybody.
Radagon took “love yourself” to the fullest
some told him "go fuck yourself" and he did lmao
The name Margit is actually clever imo.
Morgott was known as the veiled king, and a cut NPC's dialogue hints that no one actually ever sees their leader Morgott.
He was able to freely fight on the frontlines as Margit and it didnt matter if people saw him with that moniker, because no one ever saw Morgott.
I absolutelly love Godfrey. The fight, the lore, the spectacle. I killed myself in his fight to be able to fight him again fr

I would LOVE that but it'd only work as a short $20 addon/dlc imo. I don't think there's any way they could change the map and bosses enough to both follow lore and make it fun to play without it just being younger versions of the same bosses
There are so many possibilities for countless DLCs, prequels and sequels for Elden Ring, it's actually insane.
That's never happening. From always shows the aftermath of an apocalypse. Never before or during.
@@filippogrimaldi7228 “ultra AIDS”💀😭
Souls game do be like that
That's FromSoftware for 'ya
That's most of the Fromsoft games. Always a consistent thematic of a once great champions and heroes falling to ruin, their dominions crumbled and dilapidated. One exception to this is Bloodborne, which depicts a regular world corrupted by a rotten lust for knowledge, if I've understood the story correctly.
Out of everyone in this story Finlay is mad underrated he walked from caelid all the way to the Haligtree (which for us player is the farthest distance to travel) which he walked while carrying malenia and fighting of enemies on the way. Mad respect (you can get him as an spirit summon too)
Biggest Malenia glazer oat 😭😭
I believe Finlay is a "she"
Finlays a girl bruh put respect on her name
Marika took the grace from them. It didn't just leave.
@@justindailey84 Yep, indeed! Not sure why though. Was it planned that Radagon would come back as her new consort already?

Me too. I just figured it's the higher god, the Greater Will, decided to give the middle finger to the other gods in a fit of pique and sent the dominoes rolling which is why Ranni wanted to leave and make her own path.
This is normal for FromSoftware and I still I still love them.
Thats why you fight one in one of those crypts where the death root is….wow that’s actually incredibly thought out fromsoft is amazing.
I love how you basically don't have to transition from one boss to another because ALL of them are connected
1:56 Also Marika, it's implied that Marika was in on it, all of the Black Knife Assassins were Numen Women with close ties to Marika
It's also implied Melina was involved, her moveset when you summon her to fight Morgott is identical to the Black Knife Assassins movesets and she uses the Blade of Calling which shares the same moveset and a similar Ash of War as the Black Knife
Rykard was also in on it, he was given the Blasphemous Claw so he could kill Maliketh if the Plan went South

Good job!
So basically we're wiping out an entire family TREE
I really hate I couldn't talk to Maliketh or Rhadan. Rhadan sounds like he wouldve been pretty chill like Ranni if not for the scarlet rot. And Maliketh just wanted to help his half sister
Maliketh??
@@Excaliwolf2 doggie
@@Excaliwolf2 what’s so confusing about maliketh
@@StoicKobra I just didn't know at the time Mali was related to Marika at all at the time.
I don't get this either, as Ranni, who was an empyrian, was born from Rennala and Radogan, which are definitely not "one god".
⁰
This is actually quite debated by the community.
The description remembrance of the Rot Goddess states "Miquella and Malenia are *both the children of a single god. As such they are both Empyreans, but suffered afflictions from birth. One was cursed with eternal childhood, and the other harbored rot within."
Also there is the dialogue from Gowry, Millicents Father that says: "Queen Marika and her King Consort Radagon were blessed with twin demigods, and Malenia was one of them.
She was born an Empyrean, carrying the scarlet rot."
As Ranni, we know her being the daughter of Radagon and Rennala she can't be an Empyrean, also we don't know the origins behind the other two Empyreans that we know about, Marika and the Dusk Eyed Queen.
The other side of the debate can also argue that Ranni was not Rennala's true daughter but Radagon gave it to her as a 'gift' in the Great Rune of the Unborn and Marika and The Dusk Eyed Queeb were both also somehow born by a single god
However it could seem to be quite forced this theory.
Definitely sounds like something he'd do

I can’t fathom how much lore is packed into the game. None of which is forced upon the player and open for exploration. Fantastic game.
@@someone-ji2zb yeahh it's definitely deep.

When you talk about Astel you say he destroyed Nokron, he didn't he destroyed the nameless eternal city, the one by the deep roots that has no star-filled sky unlike nokron and nokstella
Alot inaccuracies..... but I respect his effort
As this video went on longer i noticed he didnt really do his research properly
They were created there
@@Hilders. The cities or Astel? Because the cities were build down there
also i think nokron was punished for offending the greater will, not sure if astel is related
You forgot one interesting detail that I believe many people have missed during their playthroughs. That Malenia is Blade of Miquella.
Radahns objective against the stars Is pretty unclear
But i think that his father/Marika tasked him to do so, in order to stop the possible Anger of the GW that, we know, shoots meteors and stars against its enemies
i have always interpreted as that either he did it because he could, or that he heard rennala and ranni or ranni and rykard talking about rannis destiny and wanted to impede the age of the stars from happening being that he idolized godfrey
@@ohokcool doesnt have any sense, nothing implyies even remotely that radhan its agains the greater will

Only reason beast clergyman is still alive is so that you don't miss out on the incants he gives you. 0:04 JOIN THE SERPENT KING AS FAMILYYYYYYYY 🗣🗣🔥🔥🔥
Thus perhaps could tie the loose end of Radagon leaving Rennala question
...he left because he was destined to become the beasts new host and "marry" (join together/become one with) Merika to fulfill a sort of higher belief prophetic task.

Lol.
Thats why they were cursed bc the birth was completely unnatural, forced, and wrong which intold Radagon breaking his vow to marika.
It would be cool if they had Miquella in a future dlc I think it has a lot of potential as there is apparently a lot of cut content including multiple questlines
Now that you mention it......
Well…
Woah, I didn't realize this before, but Renala's rebirthed kids are the Albenaurics! Wow, these events really happened one after another. The shattering and the time you start the game can’t be more than a couple years
Godfrey is exiled and has a Kid (conception of adoption), Radagon and Marika have kids and they are all grown(I say grown but Miquella can’t grow older, I know) by the time the shattering happens. Nepheli is still a relatively young women, and Malenia seems within the same age range as she did in the scene of her fighting Radhan

Astel is the final form of the Fallingstar beasts (similar to antlions). The skull is located inside the body of the beasts in code.

@@GiustiNacho you find the attire that the valkyries wear inside the flower, the flowers seem to be part of the body, nowhere before its a flower seeing left behind, there is no flower in caelid, malenia demanifest her bloom after using it, malenia's bloom its bigger, while if you finish milicent questline she blooms into a scarlet aeonia the same exact size as the one before malenia bossroom, and malenia its still alive, the incantation description says clearly she has bloomed twice already when she blooms again she will become a true goddess, which implies she is not completely ascended yet
and the talisman description its the first time i have heard using it for this argument, i feel that is more metaforical, where are they? they only appear as phantoms invading millicent, but i feel its pretty telling that when mallenia in her second phases uses the phantoms made out of butterflies they are 4 of those phantoms, like the 4 sisters that became valkyries
i think gowry intended more for them, like maybe blooming more than once and becoming something similar to malenia, but when they saw they couldnt bloom, they somehow manage to merge and bloom a single scarlet aeonia and got absorbed by the rot it would have more logic that the incantation prhasing its wrong and the flower ignores all previous details that are consistent between all other blooms
