Finally got a chance to use Contour on a project the other day - BY FAR the most exciting tool I’ve ever added to my Resolve arsenal and I’m so, so excited to use it on all upcoming projects!!
Cullen knows his S***! That saturation drop down is genius dude! Being able to separate each like this is so so needed within a look tool like this. Being selective about each area has been something missing from other looks tools, not only for each area of Color, but the density tool is looking very different than all others used, it’s very exciting. lol. If you need a beta tester, let me know. (:
It shouldn’t be a problem but you might need to restructure your node tree. And possibly decrease the opacity of certain effects. This plugin is for look development. It doesn’t have grain, bloom, halation.
Two points: 1.Cullen recommends using your textural operations/nodes (Grain,...) before Contour, but it's something you can experiment with. 2. Many tools in Resolve are compatible with one another in the sense that they coexist, but there is no guarantee that you will achieve optimal results with all of them enabled simultaneously. Contour is intended for developing a Macro Look, based on a very specific framework, in the shortest amount of time. If we add a film profile after Contour or introduce elements that alter the relationships you've carefully defined and designed in Contour, we are adding an entirely new layer of adjustments on top of the existing one. The pros and cons of this, and the extent to which you can redesign your pipeline, as well as quality control and testing for unwanted behavior introduced by what follows after Contour, are up to you.
@@Pourang_Kay thank u, I know they can co-exist. My concerns were as u mentioned that they’ll overlap in some instances and make a mess. I’ll start experimenting to see what happens and now that u mentioned about the grain I try using it after dehancer as well but most likely i’d use them separately.
Congrats on grabbing the plugin! You can certainly experiment with integrating other plugins, though I'd definitely encourage exploring how you might accomplish what you like in those plugins right within Contour...
This tool is great compared to others.. the mononodes for instance can do all of this but you have to use multiple nodes and the graph can get complicated but this one it have all in one node and that is great ! but I don't understand why those tools cost more than resolve it self !
Glad to hear you like what you're seeing! Re price, Resolve itself is actually one of the least expensive purchases in a colorist's kit, and Contour isn't far behind, especially considering the time it saves and the huge added value it creates for your work...
So many questions, but why don't you always start off with what your DR color management is set up to? And I noticed on your 709 output there you chose gamma 2.2? Why, I thought 2.4 was the "standard" Also if I am on Mac should the out put color space be 709-A like many have stated actually is better for Mac? Hopefully someone can answer this or direct me right to one of Cullen's DR color management for the settings in DR settings and the out put node...
While the gamma 2.4 is a standard broadcast format for irl cases, the gamma 2.2 is the standard for web contents (like RUclips). and output color space depends on what your monitor is calibrated to.
Sorry in advance for the DIT questions. Love the idea of this toolset, much like the new film look creator. Are these adjustments in contour something that will travel when exporting as a 3d LUT for on set viewing and are they also transferable into an exported CDL from the timeline they’ve been applied in? The CDL part being important so that this look could travel to VFX dept and be applied in their workflows.
i would love to buy if it was a one time purchase, though i understand why you probably don't offer a one time buy. is there any insight on what updates would be coming though, any thoughts on what might come in the future?
The perpetual license, which is the one that's currently on sale, is indeed a one-time purchase! And we have sooo many cool updates coming in future releases, several of which I detailed at the end of the free course that comes when you grab a license!
@@CullenKellywhat happens after 18 months? No updates on a lifetime license making it less of value. Is there a small annual update fee or do you then need to buy an annual license? I see great value in your plugin and would get it if you offer lifetime updates for those supporting it early on. 18 months is a blink of an eye in the tech world.
@@rickdeckardbladerunner2049 After 18 months you can update to the latest release for significantly less than the cost of a new perpetual or annual license. This model allows you to get forever access to a world-class tool for a one-time price, while also ensuring we’re incentivized to continue evolving it. Our idea from the beginning has been to give you a plugin that feels more like having your own personal color scientist, rather than your usual static tool. Hope this helps!

Hi Cullen We need the Rec.709-A + gamma shift issue debate solved and put to an end. Nobody can agree on anything lol. Please help us sir😭🙏🏻 We are waiting more then a year🥺 Please Cullen😔😓🙏🏻
I think the money you are asking is too much for most people , even on intro offer .And there is a subscription fee also that is costly . I dont understand the buiness plan behind this kind of pricing . But thanks for the effort ant the tool seems good. And good luck with the sales.
Cullen; have loved your tutorials for years and look forward to ongoing and new tutorials. BUT, some of YOUR USE OF POPULAR, COLLOQUIL OR TRENDY PHRASES borders on CLICHE. Words and phrases such as, "... journey," " ... your journey," or, "... my journey," seem to pop up so frequently that they loose any intended meaning. They have become in these videos mere cliches and, for me, sadly, don't inform your narrative but rather seem to have become habits that hide and condemn to mediocrity otherwise valuable thoughts. The good news is that it is easy to fix! An intelligent guy like you, I am sure, could start that tomorrow! Thanks for all you great videos.

So Glad I got my copy of Contour. And thank you again Cullen for the mini course.
Congratulations on the launch! This tool is fantastic and speeds up the look development process while helping to obtain clean and smooth results 🥳
It's an amazing tool. Now a staple in my arsenal.

Love the split toning part
Hello mr. Kelly. I’ve purchased yr plug in but forgot to ask is it compatible with dehancer. I usually put dehance after my last node cst.

Yep, these adjustments can easily be cooked into a 3D LUT, though not a CDL -- CDLs only allow for very basic color correction adjustments.
Hey Cullen, have you changed your camera or lighting?
Looks wonderful on RUclips.
Looks nice. Are you coding these tools on your own?
Thanks! And yep that's right
i have a problem
color chang after render in davinci resolve 19 in windows
how to fix it?
Wake up babe, new Cullen Kelly vid is out
