      Just go DNAP - Nurse Anesthetist if ICU was your line of work. My faculty was an ICU nurse, and she is now a PMHNP plus, she teaches, so that is 300k a year.

    I think it is not right for these schools to let in students who do not have any experience as a Psyvh RN! My school required it, but it was a long time ago so I don’t remember the number of years required. Employers are telling the new grads to go be a Psych RN for a few years! As for the money- some of the RNs on our unit make more or about the same as I do. They get holiday and overtime pay. I’m salary. However, I love my job. I feel I make an impact and do have autonomy and flexibility. I’ve been PMHNP for over 11 years and just wish I had done it sooner! There are many PMHNPs but due to many being new grads there are so many jobs out there! I get info every day- calls, emails, texts, etc. I think we are finally proving our worth that employers see the benefit and hiring more of us. 😊. Hopefully they will start paying us appropriately for all the work we do.

    • @Kwicdrawmcgraw
      @Kwicdrawmcgraw 2 месяца назад +4

      No it's not if you did it the correct way and worked as a psych nurse. You should have multiple preceptors in mind. Now if you came from the floor with no psych experience that's on you.

      Unfortunately it has been more difficulty for individuals to find a preceptor but if you are able to network while getting experience , it goes a long way

    Thanks for the insight. I’m finishing up my BSN in a few months and plan to work in psych and ER. Do you think it’s worth doing a BSN-DNP later down the line? Or get my masters in a few years? I’m not sure what route to take

    • @mrhouse12
      @mrhouse12 2 месяца назад +6

      Similar situation. From what I’ve read online, it seems like people agree the DNP isn’t really worth it. If a pmhnp DNP becomes required like CRNA, you would probably grandfathered in like MSN CRNAs were.

    • @Dhilanjam18

      @@mrhouse12 Thanks for sharing. I didn’t even think about that. MSN CRNAs are definitely grandfathered in. I guess we’ll see where we end up down the line. Best of luck!

    I love being a PMHNP but burn out is prevalent if you do not have the adequate resources. I do not have therapy to support my patient panel. I am expected to see a certain amount of patients per day. We are not allowed to charge for therapy, only medication management.
