I came here from your STG videos and was not disappointed. This is such a quirky little game and it was nice to see someone give it the spotlight it deserves. I really enjoyed your comparison to writing as a profession, I've never thought about the game that way.
Well this was excellent and super interesting. I especially liked the moment where it cuts to the arcade and the cabinet hah! Typing of the dead as experimental literature, very interesting. I used to work at an arcade years ago in LA called FFA (Family Fun Arcade) and I think at one point we had the cab. Another fun game I have not gotten into but should. As always, I dig the videos, looking forward to whatever comes next! :)
@@TheHiddenFortress81 thanks, glad you enjoyed the vid! It's a really easy game to get into (no learning curve since it's just typing) and the home ports are excellent. Though it's hard to beat the feel of playing on a cab, of course :)
@@mistyzones So another thing, I was just sitting here being bullied by stage 5 Ketsui (I took another long break and now I’m back at it) and was thinking. As somebody who watches a fair amount of RUclips game content, I feel like one of your strengths as a creator is making games I wouldn’t normally find interesting or really wouldn’t be looking at that moment feel really interesting. In other words, I feel like you’re goal was to make a video about Typing Of The Dead because it’s a game you love and maybe you wanted to be like “hey guys, this game is dope and here’s why.” And what I’m saying is it works. After watching your video, I feel like I now think this game is more interesting than I was aware of. I guess what I’m rambling about is, in my humble opinion, your unique opinions, what makes you unique, is what makes the content interesting I think. I hope that’s encouraging. Keep doing you. Also Bowie is god.
@@TheHiddenFortress81 That's very encouraging and I appreciate you taking the time to write that out! I tend to like a lot of niche stuff and it's not necessarily easy to reach people who aren't already into that stuff. Bowie definitely rules and Ketsui stage 5 is a marathon :)
Great video. This is actually one of my favorite games. Nice to see it get some love. Also loved the cut of you playing it in the arcade lol Subscribed.
Great debut for the new channel. This is a very fascinating game that has been on my radar for a while. Typing this comment to do my part against the zombie apocalypse.
I loved you for your awesome shmup content. But wow, this is a brilliant way and brilliant game to launch a new channel with. Well done. Can't wait to see what comes next
@@mistyzones you're welcome! btw, i was just about to check the tracklist you used in this video but it looks like you deleted it from the description. Any chance to take a look at it? THX!
Oh yeah, I heard that it might not be to the liking of Our Algorithmic Overlords, so decided to cut it just in case. I think I'll try an updating Google Doc or something for my music credits in the future. Here's the track list for this one: Sparse Clouds by Quincas Moreira World War Blues by Mini Vandals Wolf Moon by Unicorn Heads Lord of the Dawn by Jesse Gallagher Straight Out Cold by Noir Et Blanc Vie Sydney's Skyline by ALBIS Komorebi by Futuremono Gymnopedie No 1 (performer unknown)
Loving your content, great first video for your new channel. It’s truly impressive you can provide such in depth discourse on a game that’s not even in your native language (I assume), that truly blows my mind.
Drawing a correlation between Typing of the Dead and DADAism. Hellll yeaaa! Keep killin it. One of my favorite games. I remember bringing two laptops with me to a family get together and making everyone play this game together. Its the best.
Love the idea of Typing of the Dead at a family gathering 😃 thanks for watching, makes me real happy that a lot of folks seem to enjoy the Dada section!
This shot up to the top of my backlog after watching this. I was previously only aware of the Overkill version on Steam, but tbh this version looks so much better. Love the this era of arcade's visuals.
Hope you enjoy it! I think it's a game that is very easy to get into, what with the short arcade runtime and the gameplay being something all of us are already familiar with. Shame it's not available to buy on modern platforms.
The dumbest yet MOST GENIUS arrange mode that somehow works perfectly. The game really uses a huge variety of words and silly phrases to always keep it fresh.
Ooh, I hadn't thought of it as an arrange, but you're completely right! And yeah, they didn't need to make the dictionary so large, but they did, and it gives the game a lot of longevity.
@@mistyzones I did. Very interesting perspective and informative video. Was a chill and entertaining video. Looking forward to the next episode. Take it easy for now.
@@mistyzones your vid inspired me to spend an exorbitant amount of money and just get it lol. Told my girlfriend about it and it will probably be one of the few games outside of Animal Crossing we can play together.
Great editing/timing in the video. I try to beat this game on average difficulty, but still can’t do it. Made it to the last stage, though. I think I need to play with a second player. If you find it easy and want an extra challenge, I find the Japanese version harder to play. It’s Japanese words, but you still type in roman letters. There is also a Japanese PC sequel to this, but based on House of the Day III. Apparently super expensive now.
Thanks for watching! I find it quite tough as well, the final stage in particular is humbling. Playing the japanese version is a pretty interesting experience, because all the romaji kind of blends together into letter soup.
Bravo! Loved this video. Looooved playing TOTD on DC as well. Also, a few questions: 1) What do you think about The Typing of The Dead: Overkill on Steam? 2) What model/make is that compact keyboard you are wearing? (Just plain awesome, that you did that). 3) That 'Type Dreams' game @30:38 and @30:56 - took a fair bit of searching. The developer has gone stealth - or AFK. Links to itch are gone. Man, I'd love to play that. Any idea where to get it - my fingers are itching?
Thanks so much! 1) I don't remember vibing it with that much, but it's honestly been years and my memory's foggy. The original's the one that I've felt like returning to again and again. 2) It's just something real cheap I picked up locally to tidy up my desk, I really should get something better. 3) EDIT: Check the other reply below.
