Alan Rickman was great here. Loved how he changed character in this scene. His expressions were great 👍 😊

That last cigarette save his life. John takes a cowboy drag like John Wayne or the Marlboro Man as he watches Hans take a three fingered puff like a Wehrmacht officer in an Occupied-Parisian bistro.

If Die hard was told from the perspective of the terrorists....it would be a slasher movie.

Rickman’s best line in this movie may not even be a line at all but his reaction at 2:42. Such a subtle face that combines pretending he’s “pleasantly surprised” while also actually realizing (and trying to hide) “Oh s**t… the mystery guy we’ve been dealing with is actually a legit problem. 😳😯😅”

The scene where Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman meet up was unrehearsed to create a greater feeling of spontaneity between the two actors.
On Alan Rickman's first day of shooting, he filmed the scene where Hans Gruber first runs into John McClane. He made a jump off a ledge about 3 feet high. He injured himself when he landed and damaged some cartilage in his knee. He was told by his doctor not to put any weight on that leg, and he had to use crutches for a week. For the rest of the scene where Hans Gruber is standing and talking to John McClane, Alan Rickman is standing on one leg for the entire time and has a leg brace on under his pants.
When McClane meets Hans for the first time it is improvised. Alan Rickman does his best American accent to try and fool our hero. The filmmakers had been trying to figure out a way for McClane and Hans to meet face-to-face before the film's climatic scenes. Once they realized that Rickman could do a passable American accent, they were off to the races. The scene led Hans to realize that McClane's barefoot, and they should "shoot the glass." That scene is what led Terry Gilliam to cast Bruce Willis in 12 Monkeys (1995). A lot led to the realization that the British Rickman could sound like a red-blooded American.
When McClane is speaking with Gruber, who is impersonating Bill Clay, there is an office directory behind Gruber. There are three names on it in order, "Degovia, De Souza, Debont" referring to production designer Jackson De Govia, screenwriter Steven E. de Souza, and cinematographer Jan de Bont.
During the scene where Hans Gruber is offered a cigarette by John McClane, he holds the cigarette as a European would. It was intended to be taken as a clue to his identity for John.
For Fritz's death scene, Hans Buhringer wasn't called in that day of filming, as the filmmakers were already behind schedule. Instead, the filmmakers opted for Native American stuntman Henry Kingi to double for the character's death while wearing a wig. Buhringer joked that he never really died in the film as he wasn't an experienced actor at the time.

Bill is short for William so it's plausible up until Hans tries to use the gun given to him by McClane to shoot him
