I went from never going to confession to going after each mortal sin, which, may God have mercy, is often. And in the odd chance I haven't sinned mortally, I still go bi weekly. Holy Ghost infuse my poor week soul with strength! God be praised

Don’t feel bad… I’ve been going after each mortal sin and people think I’m being scrupulous. I don’t want to take Holy Communion while in a state of mortal sin. This is the second source today that I learned penitent can confess venial sins in confession. The first was Fr. Thady Gods Cottage.

Not as often as me. Which has put me in despair and I end up not going because it always happens that it will be just hours after a confession before another mortal sin is committed. I would need to go every day or twice a day. Do you see how I can despair? And it is the same sin over and over.

My secret about confession is to meditate in front of the priest for the first 20 seconds to set the scene.
Then I say “My Jesus” and I start my confession.
This usually brings a flood of tears as I think about how much I have offended him. I see Him standing behind the priest with open arms offering His love and forgiveness!
This transforms my confession and I look forward to it every week as a result!!!
    Try it…..It’s fantastic!!!

When in confession i always try to have Jesus in my mind wearing his crown of thornes, blood all over His body and like He was leaning against the wall right in front of me because He is so exhausted/sad because of my sins. So i never think about the priest on the other side but always have Jesus in my mind directly in front of me in a miserable state (because of my sins).

I never thought I would be doing weekly confessions and daily rosaries, but I can't be without it. I had a close family member involved in freemasonry and I have had extensive demonic attack/influence all my life. My health is very low and I have a lot of pain from several autoimmune issues piled on each other. It's the perfect setup for victim soul duties though and I don't mind the pain anymore and I absolutely don't mind paying even just a little bit of the tab of the souls in purgatory or those in my life as I don't want them to experience pain in purgatory or worse. I very much love intercession as well. St. Gemma is a great help in this and our blessed mother is more than anything I ever imagined. Christ, the one who everything leads to is unimaginably kind and giving, and so very just!

Jesus saves us baptized with The Holy Spirit & Holy Water from original sin. Sins committed after Baptism have to be confessed, we have to receive absolution & Penance to serve to be forgiven by God. That’s why He instituted the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession). God exhorts through His Priests as they are in persona Christi when enacting His Sacraments. 2 Cor 5:18-20, Jn 20:21-23, Mt 9:8, 16:18-19, 18:17-18.
If we die in mortal sin, we chose to be separated from God. He honors our choices for eternity. There’s no hope left.
If we die in Venial sin, we have to be purged of it to enter Heaven, as nothing impure can enter. Purgatory is a complete cleansing of our souls on the way to Heaven. We’re to pray for the souls in Purgatory to receive comfort & be released from their sins.
    1 Cor 3:15, Mt5:25-26, 1 Pet 3:18-20, 1 Jn 5:16-17, Jn 19:11, Rev 21:27, 2 Macc 12:43-46

Never EVER receive the Lord in the Eucharist If you are in a state of mortal sin. I know some people think it's ok to receive it if you plan to go to confession after, or maybe you have heard some priest say it was OK. It is one of the worst sins there can be. If you have committed a mortal sin(s) DO NOT RECEIVE Communion. It is not ok according to the Bible. I have spent years trying to justify it but you can't. Don't do it.

Act of Contrition is also said in emergencies when an individual is at risk of immediate death and has no time for the Sacrament of Confession. If said with true contrition, your mortal sins can be forgiven. So if you're with anyone dying or you are dying and there is no time for a priest, say the Act of Contrition!

I used to go to confession frequently, but since I have been diagnosed with Cognitive Decline, I go less and less... just every few months. My short term memory is lacking. Is there something I can do to help me remember my sins? I try my best not to sin, but I know I do. I know there must be others who deal with this? What do priests recommend in helping people like myself?

    • @me_llamo_mari
      @me_llamo_mari 4 месяца назад +6

I have brain damage and sometimes forget some sins maybe in my case because I feel everything is unreal and feel detached from myself and my emotions. I suppose your case is worse and is more memory-focused.
What I can reccomend is to examinate yourself with a consciousness exam each night. I reccomend using the consciousness exam every time because that helps me to remember.
Also, 2 or 3 times a week or so, I examinate myself with the exam during the day (for example in the afternoon).
And I go to Confession every 2 weeks.
And I reccomend you to have a little notebook or somethig to write on all the time with you, like this you will be able to write them down inmediately.
Make all the efforts you can, and be perseverative, maybe like that your brain will improve a bit and you will remember at least some of your sins.
And each time, I write that maybe I forgot some sins because I didn't write them down in the moment.
If you are depressed, have depersonalization or a frontal lobe problem you will need to examinate your behavior in order to find out if you have sins such as -for example- wrath, because you will not feel it in you, or not be conscious about feeling or behaving with wrath, but might.
      You can confess venial sins.
Finally, ask the priest what you can do, but NEVER quit Confession.
      I hope this helps.
Edit: cognitive decline is your cross, DO NOT quit Confession because of that. You need to carry your cross and follow Jesus. (I also have some type of cognitive decline because my brain damage is in fact a viral-induced shrikage of my brain, so I can understand how you feel to some degree)

For the people who go every 8 days, I'm having a really hard time finding stuff to talk about... i feel like I'm making stuff up. Confession is a powerful sacrament and going too frequently cheapens it for me. I promise to amend my life and sin no more... so doesn't that promise itself become a lie if I plan to come next week? Frequent confession feels to me like it forces us to not respect the tremendous gravity of what's going on. I just don't understand what people are talking about every 8 days. Ongoing sin? Or do you get to talk about Bible passages?

    • @johanlaggui
      @johanlaggui 4 месяца назад +4

I think you would know how often to go if you regularly pray and examine your conscience. When I was beginning to learn more about God, I went to confession almost every week because although all my sins have been forgiven even from the first confession, I would remember grave sins that I needed to confess. After regularly examining myself, I find I sinned less, so I had to decrease going into confession and praying more instead for smaller venial sins. But one time, situations changed and I find myself waking up one day, having committed grave sins unknowingly in a span of a week and a half. Within the first week, I knew I needed to go to confession, but for some reason, I wasnt able to. Few days after, I learned I had more things to confess about. Anyway, long story short, if you regularly examine your state, pray especially on repenting days, and ALWAYS ask the Holy Spirit to show you the errors in your ways, whether it's once a week, or once a month, you would know when to go to confession. Hope that helps!

You may have more venial sins than you think. Think of times when you may have gossiped about someone, or thought an unkind thought, or snapped at a family member or friend. In your arguments with someone, was it due to pride? Think about when you've felt/been lazy at completing a necessary task, maybe subconsciously (sin of sloth can be mortal if done purposely). Think about when you were NOT humble. Praying the litany of humility may also give you insight into your sins. 🙏

But in India in my state of kerala the priests chase you and will spend hours preparing you
They will not refuse you- Most of them
Let us pray that they get the grace. maybe the Lord is testing us. yes he is .When the priest stopped giving confessions. I try not to sin in thought word and deed. This has helped me a lot and is a positive approach.

Why can’t you confess and repent to the Almighty directly? Why do they consider saying prayers a penance? Praying is not a penance.

God The Almighty instituted His Sacraments in His Only One True Apostolic Catholic Church for us to get into Heaven. Jesus saves us baptized with The Holy Spirit & Holy Water from original sin. Sins committed after Baptism have to be confessed, we have to receive absolution & Penance to serve to be forgiven by God. That’s why He instituted the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession). He exhorts through His Priests as they are in persona Christi when enacting His Sacraments.
Prayer as penance is a meaningful practice in Catholicism. According to the *Rite of Penance*, the prayers given for penance are not meant to be a punishment but rather an attempt to make up for the effects of our sins and help us begin a new life (Rite of Penance, 18). This act of penance can take various forms, including prayer, self-denial, and works of mercy. For instance, during Lent, one might choose to pray the Rosary more attentively, meditate on the mysteries, or pray for those who mock or degrade them (Article 1). These acts of prayer help underline the social aspect of sin and its forgiveness, emphasizing our dependence on God and our commitment to spiritual growth.

Only a Catholic Priest can enact Gods Sacrament of Reconciliation and give us Gods absolution and penance.

@@southernlady1109 yes but can we not talk to/confess to Jesus and ask for forgiveness if we sincerely repent our sins? I thought His crucifixion forgave our sins and gave us a pathway to Heaven. He took the sin upon Himself.

@@OlekChmielewski, mortal sin is the worst evil in the world, followed by venial sin.
As Our Lord said in the Gospel: What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and suffers the loss of his own soul ? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul ? (It's in St. Matthew.)
The soul is immortal. After Judgement Day, our bodies will be reunited with our souls to share in the reward or punishment due to sin. If a person dies in the state of sanctifying grace, their soul will go to heaven either directly (very rare nowadays) or after being purified in Purgatory. If a person dies in the state of mortal sin, after Judgement Day they will be tormented in body and soul for all eternity.
Our Lord sacrificed everything in order to redeem mankind and each person in particular. It is up to each of us to cooperate with the graces that He gives us.
That's why He said that in the Gospel. Nothing is more important than the salvation of our soul .
