Here you can understand they grew together, study together, and are born in the same language and city, incredible how incredible it is.... one of the best pieces of music, the composer would be happy
Why the Met won't put it on is a mystery.I wish more operas had a straightforward plot, beautiful music, and happy ending. Wish I was that photog, taking Mirella's picture for the cover. She was at her most beautiful!
Does anyone know what year this was? This has always been one of my favorite operas. Love the last act duet, VERY romantic. :) (and no one dies in this one! lol!)
There is no date of the concert anywhere on the CD or its booklet. In researching this I did find reference to the date of 1980. I was thinking more of 1988, but then I read that Freni who was married to Leone Magiera, the conductor here, divorced him in the early '80s. So....I'm still not sure, but I will continue to look.
Absolutamente cierto Otello 31. .
This is a splendid recording, but IMHO the live recording from their concert in Puerto Rico in April 1978 ruclips.net/video/vg8piOGYcf4/видео.html is even more splendid. Not only is the recorded sound louder and clearer, but the singing by Pavarotti is more beautiful and the tempo is somewhat faster, making their duet sound more passionate.
I actually like the studio recording in 1969 much better. This one, the tempo was way too slow, the music was not moving. Pavarotti yelled too much, this is a love duet, come on! And his infamous mannerisms of adding an “eh” before leaping into high notes is irritating, this did not happens in the earlier recordings. Freni was superb though, proving she’s the most versatile soprano with warm and intelligence in her interpretation. Don’t get me wrong, I love Pavarotti, but I avoid any recordings of his after 1975.
Pavarotti seems to sing his best when in duet with Frenni. WONDERFUL
You are dam RIGHT...

Magnifique duo avec deux interprètes de rêve...
Doesn't get any better than this, folks!
Probably my favorite version of the Cherry Duet ever!
I love this opera, especially this duet. They make the perfect Fritz and Suzel. The 1969 recording of this opera is one of my favorites to this day.
Is a pitty that this opera is not rehearsed in theaters today, Its very nice and has several nice arias and duets
Lovely music by Mascagni. Beautiful.
Heartbreakingly beautiful.

So do I. I used to wake up to that studio recording just about every day, years ago, but this live performance seems richer, somehow.
I also had a live version with Gianni Raimondi and Freni at La Scala in 1965 or 66 - excellent !
Impresionante! Bravo maestro!
How beautiful!!

Maravilloso !!! fascinante!!! parece escrito para ellos!!
This is gorgeous!
Ridiculously beautiful.
¡Cuanta belleza!
In Paradiso cantano gli angeli , Pavarotti e Freni.....
Frebruary 15, 1979. Modena.
I agree. And you know I have their studio recording of L'amico Fritz" and I actually prefer this live version of the duet to their recorded version!
Does anyone know what year this was?

No I don't have it, but I will certainly check it out. Thanks for the suggestion!

w Mascagni
what year was this recorded?

Pavarotti's voice in later years was different than at the beginning of his career, though he remained a thrilling singer throughout his career.
i love this duet and nobody sings it better than these two
Cesare Valetti & Rosanna Carteri, also.👌
do you have the freni- carreras boccanegra recording- amazing
