The Crew was released on December 2, 2014, meaning the game won't even be 10 years old when it goes offline forever. It is indeed a sad time for racing game fans.
Meanwhile GTA 5 which came out a year prior is still running

Some people found a hidden offline mode in the game! The fact that Ubisoft won't officially implement it in the coming months is utterly disgraceful. We really need legislation to prevent this kind of disrespect to consumers and to historic games. Here's hoping the modding community can prevail yet again.
I’m personally contemplating spending the night writing angry reviews for all Ubisoft games I can find on Steam.
There's already a small modding community for The Crew, e.g. you can get the old HUD and graphics back, as well as some small other changes. I have faith that they, with the help of others, *might* be able to make the game playable offline.

@@yabestmatesam This is great, but we shouldn't have to rely on modders. It should be actually illegal to just snap a game out of existence like this, and it should be on the developers/publishers to make a game still playable after delisting.
This was the best Crew Game where it has its own identity. Im going to miss all of those night drives on the interstates from city to city. Hopefully Modders can input an offline mode at this point...

yup its the best crew for sure. not copied from other games it has cops and the summit was awesome. AND THIS HUGE RACES THAT TOOK 4 Hours to finish. the crew 2 was fortnite and childish items and motorfest a horizon clone

I can somewhat understand the delisting, since (as you pointed out) licensing can become an issue. But the fact that Ubisoft decided they'll just turn off the game Overwatch 1 style instead of pushing out an offline update like GT Sport will do puzzles me. Does Ubisoft just not care about racing games? Or do they not care about the community? Do they want us to forget about this game? So many questions, so little answers
Some people even found a hidden offline mode already (partly?) built into in the game, so it's absolutely disgraceful.
Hi, According to the Federal Trade Commission Act, "businesses must honor their promises," and if your 2 Crew is careening off the road due to license expiration, that's a clear breach Ubisoft did, As per the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, consumers are entitled to "implied warranties of merchantability," meaning your game should function as expected. So, this does mean they can't keep The Crew on running, however, these statutes are laws and demand a refund.
well in Overwatch at least you kept your progress... this is just gone... all of it... and I have zero motivation or willingness to play TC2 or TCM anymore.... I have so much progress in all 3 games... And it feels like I just lost all of it... even spending time in Forza Motorsport would be more useful than this series...

Won't happen because they don't care about game preservation on old games that won't make them any money. They only care about you buying their future games, not playing their old ones which they can't even sell anymore.

Fun fact: The Crew Motorfest & The Crew 2 do have an offline mode. But only their developers can access it from what I learned.
Which from a QA perspective should be obvious as you can’t test new features or bug fixes in the live build. Though it’s insane that they don’t allow access to it after the games servers go down. That really shouldn’t be legal for a paid product
I didn't realize when I played this game how special it was. I just enjoyed it, a ton. I forgot about so much of this or didn't realize it was so ahead of its time

Yeah It's what filled me with so much hopium that I bought 2 and motorfest hoping we'd ever get something as special but it just never happened. The new ones have no soul and reek of corporate "optimization" and direction. Spent countless hours doing the cross country races and just using it as a cruising simulator to have good conversations with my friend. I feel like there's nothing else these days that fits into that hole it left in my library of games.

This game is my childhood. I’ve been playing this game since the release of the game in 2014 (I was five at the time). I started playing again for nostalgia today and I wish the servers didn’t have to be shut down

The crew motorfest feels way different than the crew 1. The disappearance of cops, a smaller map, and just how it felt were so much different than present day the crew games.

I spent hours playing this game and grinding out my car levels. This and Horizon 2 were my favorites. I still go back to The Crew every now and then to drive across the map and chill.

I have always had a gripe with online only games, or games that use online server based saves. No matter how much effort you put into it you are still gonna lose it all when they shut the servers down. It just feels like I'm throwing my money away for anything I ever get on it which I agree makes me wanna invest less in said game.
Im probably done with all three The Crew games... I feel like I just wasted so much time for nothing to look back at

Despite having many stability problems, this is the best modern racing game I played in a long time. The crew 2 is great but The crew has that soul like older racing games had.
I was thinking, why don't we fight for the game to keep online, or make an offline mode? I remember when Ubisoft wanted to make the Splinter Cell game that was cancelled and delayed. We got Splinter Cell Conviction instead. But we got that great game, because we, the fans made a huge outrage with Sam Fisher being homeless and all stuff Ubisoft wanted, they got scared of that rage, and they admit their defeat changed the game. Maybe if we collect the voice, power together, we can make a change again. Because this game deserves to be saved, alive.
My favorite thing about the crew 1 is the long cross country races that last 30 mins to an hour. It reminded me of NFS The Run which was such a good game. They need to bring back the long races.
There were even 2-3 and 4 hour long races across the entire map. Absolutely insane. No other game does that. 4 hours of straight driving! No zoomer with their goldfish attention spans is ever going to sit through a race like that, and no modern racing game has the balls to include a race this long nor do they have the map for it.
@@TonyMcCrea yeah unfortunately it's fucking sad. I saw complaints about it and I'm like atleast it was different scenery I use to do 8 hour long races on the same track on gran turismo 2 and I thought that was fun.
The worst for me is that my physical disc will be literal trash after March. I own a physical copy, I should be able to pop it into my Xbox at ANY time and it should play offline at the very least.
Financially makes sense for them to add an offline patch. They can keep selling the games so more money. Plys people won't be discouraged to buy the newer games + in-game purchases if as they won't feel like their progress will be completely lost at some point. Come on Ubisoft
Licensing will probably still prevent new sales, that's why they're doing this just before the 10 years mark.
They want shut down the old one so people I'll buy the new game it's the same strategy in sport games and other racing games like Gran Turismo Forza series
This is one of the reasons why I will always cherish older games. The details, depth, time, effort, and loyalty. Games will never be the same. Thats why I have my PS2 with all the games I loved growing up as a kid. All you need to do is plug it in, pop a disc in, and play. Unfortunately we'll always recieve greedy Hollywood woke BS.

Don’t forget the crew 1 was grinding as hell, I remember doing faction missions and one of the races was over 4-6 hours long
The faction thing was unfortunately broken from the start because most players joined the same faction, making it impossible for the others to be competitive.

EA shut down the servers for Need for Speed World back in 2015 but the fans managed to bring it back online in 2017 and keep it running with community run servers and it is currently better than what it was back when it was under EA. The Crew 1 might not even have that luxury due to Ubisoft being Ubisoft. One of the few good racing games made for the 8th generation of consoles won't be preserved for longtime fans or for people to try and enjoy decades later. Makes me even more worried about Need for Speed 2015.
I'm sure that on PC something will be made from the community... but it doesn't do anything for the console players literally losing all of their progress...

Reflections Games treated their games with respect, Ubisoft only dragging their classic series down.
Me and my wife had alot of bonding time on the crew collecting the cars doing summits playing with friends and doing pvp for hours on end trying to win from Mets to the worst cars in the game and doing drives from place to place this game will forever be in a special place in my heart for racing games 😢
Real ones remember when Codemasters gave out the GRID games for free before they delisted them. Also MCLA's online servers are still up to this day on Xbox.

Also the game has glitches in the cutscenes and if you play too much the missions the music is gonna corrupt, this is because they decided to change the game motor, but also they change the artistic direction changing the UI and not giving options to get the original one, the original intro is lost, the ui is lost, i think the way music stages
In the crew there are 3 tipes of music stages:
[Stage 3] you're losing or close to win they bring all the instruments together, blending it to Stage 2 with a Bandpass filter in the case of Heavy as a Feather
[Stage 2] Is the normal one that sounds everytime, it is simple compared to the released version, but they're the most 'older' versions, for example, the strings in Leadfoot (Played in the mission Escape Velocity only) are more realistic and it transmits you a feeling of love, the released one also have strings but they're like a pad and they are more emotiv. Also the same pad plays reversed in both versions
[Stage 1] This is rare, plays when you escape the police, I dont found too many songs that plays in this version, however this version is the full drums and soundeffects of the crew soundtrack, it also plays in the final of each song but only the final beat, you can hear it in the released versions but there are more secrets songs like Track 29 that only plays in Stage 2 and 3
Characters Themes are made by Traz Damji, they only play in the cutscenes.
Mission Themes are made by Joseph Trapanese, but also trapanese is the main composer of the game and also helped in the creation of the Cutscenes themes,
Cutscene Themes are different because there's no way to get the ogg archive if you dont have access to the game archives who most consoles players cant.

1:27 I feel you man. Where's the "dark cinema" type of stories, imagine an expanded NFS Undercover type storyline, maybe something like Watch Dogs, that game was pretty gloomy.
Expnaded NFS Undercover storyline sound nice, and Watch Dogs 1 was release same year with The Crew, also AC Unity and Rogue - so its "dark" era in Ubisoft games
A week ago I was excited after a huge test to enjoy my childhood memories and nostalgia with my best friend. I took up my PS4 and went into The Crew which said that it requires network and PSN. I was only going to play for one night so I felt that it was a little expansive to pay 9 dollars for one month but I did it. Really frustrating to see that the game was deleted when going back into the game and that it was deleted only 3 days before I wanted to experience my favorite game growing up. Felt tricked to be honest 💔

There's a race editor in "The Crew 2". I wonder if that can be used to recreate the Faction Missions from "The Crew 1".
Before it goes away I'm going to replay the campaign using mission order lists that can be found online, using cars close to the minimums for each event so the challenge is still there. But I need to find out where the cutscenes fit in so I can jump to HQ and watch them at the appropriate times.
I was wrong, the cutscenes play in the right order. But it's confusing at the beginning because there are 3 intro missions that can't be replayed. You just have to watch the cutscenes for them without doing the missions, and then jump in at mission 4.
I was wrong again. The cutscenes in your HQ will not replay, so you have to go watch those manually and just guess when is the right time. But every mission has its own cutscenes before and after, and those still play.
The crew was actually my introduction to this channel, along with top clips of the week, I didn’t have the game at the time so I used to love watching your gameplays with the wheel and the customization videos. When I finally got the game me and my cousin would always spend our free days exploring the map and going on trips across the country it was so fun. I kind of want to make a new account to replay it one last time, it will definitely be missed

I'm in South Australia got series x can't find my digital of the crew it's already removed. I wonder how long kt will keep tdusc going until the servers and game get cancelled after it launches. They only kept server going 6 years with tdu2.

This was not only the best Crew game, but the best racing game of all time, or at least my favourite one. The gameplay mechanics are still miles ahead of every other racing game out there. No other racing game had a better story that guides you through the entire map and all the car classes so seamlessly. With the dlc's and other improvements this game came the closest to perfect in terms of racing games. Yes, it has its flaws, but at least this game has a soul that you can feel every time and everywhere you go while playing (unlike the borefests that are Forza games)

I would argue that Test Drive Unlimited (2006) was the first "CarPG" and The Crew was clearly heavily inspired by that game.
I recently installed this game again just to experience it once more but I was disappointed on the performance on the series x it was really choppy and not really playable sadly.

Then, there was Racing Lagoon released the 10th June 1999 exclusively for the Japan Market which is the 9th CaRPG game.

It is sad to know that in 3 months, this game is going to have its servers shutdown and it’s out of nowhere. I bought it back in high school and I was on the edge whenever doing delivery missions while avoiding the cops. The Crew 2 was kinda cool and the Crew Motorfest demo was alright but it’s still sad that this game alone is gonna be gone.

If they don't release a offline patch then they should remaster it to new consoles and PC with all the Dlc and the summit
They will never remaster it either way.
Modders will find a way to create an offline patch by themselves since Ubisoft will surely never do it.
Also, I think it's a very real possibility that EA does what Ubisoft does with NFS 2015 - and kill that game off in 2025, 10 years after release.

Grinding out the license plates was so much fun
9 year old game that i spent $60 dollars on and it basically becomes unplayable next year. I hate that this is becoming more and more common witj live service games, ESPECIALLY with racing games. Why the hell cant i buy Forza Motorsport 1-7 or Horizons 1-3? All need for speeds before 2012 are basically gone. Gran Turismo 1-Sport all useless now. These companies don't determine how much my money's worth is, if i want to be able to play these games until March 9th, 2083 i should be able to

The Crew (1) is the only reason i bought The Crew 2, which i at the time thought was going to have a story like it had in the first one.
I Didn't buy Motorfest as it seems as if it's kind of the same as The Crew 2 but on a different map (Forza Horizon much?)
Although i had planned on buying Motorfest on a big sale, i will not wait for that as it just isn't worth it being delisted in like 7 years or whatever.
Now that I'm at this point, I don't think I'll ever buy a "Online- Only" game in the future.
I'm just hoping a smart group of people out there like who made the NFS World offline thing, can do the same with The Crew. Because would be an absolute shame to lose these games and the devs don't care enough about game preservation to create a small patch for it so it can be played offline and have a local save file instead of relying on the servers.
This is why I start having thoughts of killing myself over unobtainble trophies and games that can't be played!

When people, as consumers, bought The Crew back when it was first released in December 2014, they didn’t actually own the game, oh no - they were actually buying a _license_ to play the game, and once that gets taken away from them at the end of March 2024, that's it - they can never, ever play the game they paid $60 for again… EVER.
I wasn't paying a monthly subscription, I purchased a complete product, if they don't want to let it work, and I don't care how they manage to do it, then they better start refunding everyone.

This is why i never but online only games, even if i enjoyed them as much as i did the crew, never again.
Accursed Farms predicted this would happen years ago. This is so damn sad, everyone should go watch his review of the game where he talked about how Ubisoft would eventually shut down the game because it's online only. I hate that this is still happening
Recently got a good spec laptop and trying out the games at the time where i didn't even have PC or laptop..crew was on my list😢
The Crew got the same treatment as the Watchdogs series. Went from a dark, interesting revenge story to 'haha funni', to 'haha even funnier' with no soul. At least the Motorfest is a good game, unlike Legion....exlcuding the DLCs.
