Seeing your approach to blocking in the design is so inspiring. Plein air painting can be a real challenge to get the drawing and values correct. Thanks for sharing your vision 🧡
Really appreciate you talking through your thinking process found it very useful. Also watching your brush strokes was an education. Beautiful painting!
I am really inspired by your freshness and directness with your painting. I have been getting slower and more detailed with my plein air works lately and i felt watching this was a great reminder to loosen up and to focus on feeling and expression and the essence of the idea I'm trying to get across. You did that really well. Thanks for sharing!
thanks, Danny. It's really all about what YOU'RE goal is with painting. Nothing wrong with being slow and detailed, though it should still have the feeling, expression, and essence of the place!
Hi Turner, I really like what you are doing with your painting endeavours. Very real; with the kids, family visiting, the sprinkler etc. I threw together a paint box and easel and carrier last weekend and have been out everyday this week working on 10"x14" pre-bought panels. Today will be day 8 out in the woods. I am hooked!
Thank you for generosity in sharing your thoughts while painting. Your use of the very hard greens and the range you get is genius. Your show is beautiful and wish I could view in person .
Thanks for the video, Turner! I like your enthusiastic work in the open air. And even more I like your boy playing beside you and freely walking barefoot on the grass. This is very wonderful!
Another nice one, Turner. Sometimes you say things that we all know (like changing up you brushes every so often to add some variety) but we forget to do...thanks for the reminder!
I started following you because of your Yarka easel. First time I’ve seen a plein air painter using one. I started plein air painting in the mid 90s and my first easel was a Yarka. Personally my favorite easel. I quit using it 4 years ago when I started doing only watercolors. I still have it. So, I enjoyed your first video and I now follow you. You remind me of my early years. Keep up with those loose and juicy brushstrokes and you’re going to be going places. The best to you!
I'm gonna unsubscribe if you don't Pole Dance like Cesar did in his video last week!! Cesar is the GOAT!! I like the way your son let's out a giant YAWN then hits the road on his bike!! Hahahahaha!! Another video that made my day. Thank you, sir.
Thank you very much for sharing your wonderful skills. Another beautiful painting which I liked. You make it look so easy but it’s not. The easel is fantastic. I have subscribed to your channel, like you I like Russian colours. Nevskaya is a wonderful brand. From Glasgow in Scotland 🏴 thank you 🙏
Turner what a beautiful gallery display of your paintings! I saw you paint alot of them! Great that you are selling! Yay! That means we ll see more videos!😊
Thanks for the videos. Love the ones of Montana, perhaps all of them? My wife and I went to UM, I was in forestry graduated in 1967. Spent lots of time fishing and enjoying Missoula. Take care, Jim
Wonderful presentation, to allow us to be part of your thinking while you execute your painting; your techniques are also well developed. I enjoy every minute, thanks!
binder clips!!!! just two binder clips should be able to stop those metal canvas stoppers right where you want them. Honestly maybe a binder clip or two on the pallete as well? Great review and love the look of that easel.
Love watching you paint! Its inspiring and encouraging. How do you transport your painted canvases back to the studio? I'm always hesitant to paint with oils because I'm worried about transportation with wet oils. Oils are my favourite medium but I don't get to use them as often as I'd like. Thank you!
Hello from Moscow. We have this "plein air box" called - etudnick, from the word - etude :D You'd better buy a Soviet era "plein air box" from the Podolsk factory of an older year, 80's-90's. These "plein air box" can be recognized by the yellow-green belt, and aluminum elements оf constuction. Then the quality was higher, all the elements worked perfectly, the kit included a palette and a 2 sided panel for sketches, the palette and finished painting work's was fixed inside the box. Modern "plein air boxes" from the Podolsk factory are of very low quality. I have a Soviet era "plein air box" from the Podolsk factory and I am very pleased with it. Sorry for my English, I'm using a translator.
Great view from your yard! Beautifull study! About those panels, is there a way you can hang those on the wall without framing? Thank you for your inspirational vídeos!
thanks Ricardo. I have seen panels hung without frames by attaching (with velcro or sticky pads) a wooden block to the back of the panel. And the block either has a wire attached or a hole in it where a nail can go. And it kind of creates a floating unframed panel on the wall. Hope that makes sense!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and talent. I love your work. I saw one t oday on TV, cuz you gotta watch RUclips on Tbeen watching for awhile subscribed a few days ago. I watch all your videos. The one where you painted the house while looking after 2 toddlerz I would love tohave.to have. My name is Terri Stalvey . I love your work
Thank you. QUEStiON..How do you frame your panels? specifically.. on this painting will your frame cut off a quarter of an inch or so from each edge or do you use the frames that do not overlap the panel edge? thanks. Or do you even frame this panels at all?
Do you find that your panels warp? Painting on one side only often causes raw wood panels to bend over time because they breathe unevenly (well one the raw side, bad on the painted side). Masonite might be different since it already has a sealed side.
The only panels I've had warp are when I made larger ones, maybe 20x24 or bigger. But I typically am making 12x16 or smaller, and they don't seem to warp.
I'd like to get a new easel but I see he's sold out, is the link still good? Can u drop his storefront link I would love to purchase this type easel because I want to paint bigger and I really like this set up
Do you sand between gesso coats? How much tooth is on the mason boards when ready to paint? I've also noticed Russian Impressionists don't tone their surface -just jump right into drawing and blocking in darks. Why is that? (Apologies if the question already been answered.)
When gessoing panels I don't typically sand between coats, but some of the thicker weave canvas that I use, I will take a piece of sandpaper in my hand and quickly run it across the surface to knock down some of the points that are poking up. But nothing more than that
I really enjoy your RUclips videos! I'm having a hard time finding a source for the Yarka plein air easels . You mentioned a source in Salt Lake City! Can you reveal your source? Thanks.
My easel arrived! I had the same issue on the medium easel you had with your large. Missing stops on the support tabs. I wasn’t overly impressed with the craftsmanship of the easel but love how light weight it is. Fixed it with small wood screws. Thanks again for your help!
@@chumn54 hmmm, that's too bad. The other Yarka easels I have are older and I got from other artist. I guess they just aren't making them the same, which is too bad!

The kids need their own easel and kid safe paints so they can paint along side you. How cute they are.
They do paint quite a lot

ah, I see russian easel, interesting, thanks for the info
Just gesso without canvas clothe will work on that canvass, acrylic paint wouldn't feel off after years?
What type of board do you use? I’ve been using Masonite. Is this better?
this was just 1/4 inch plywood, but I don't think one is better than the other
Amazing,,,,,
Enjoyed your demonstration, if I may, what is the thickness and quality of the plywood?
this was quarter inch birch, (I think)

As a wood worker let me strongly suggest you buy a Saw Stop. You can't paint without fingers!
If an extra 3 grand was just sitting around, I’d certainly have one! Maybe one day

Don't you panels warp?
with paintings this size, no, they don't warp
why not just use acrylic primer house paint?
